As the first award of the evening the Academy showed us what we could expect for the rest of the ceremony with their new format. Five past winners of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, whom included Eva Marie Saint, Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Angelica Huston, and Tilda Swinton presented this year’s five nominees with a monologue describing the significance of their nomination and their role.

And the Oscar went to…

First Look at The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

pernassus First Look at The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

A promotional image from The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has appeared on the website of the film’s cinematographer, Nicola Pecorini. As you may know, Parnassus was the project the late Heath Ledger was working on right before his death. With such an unfortunate circumstance the film was left incomplete, and it’s future was uncertain. In an act of Hollywood charity, fellow actors Johnny DeppJude Law, and Colin Farrell decided to step into Ledger’s role of “Tony”. Thankfully, because of the film’s mystical storyline, the character can be believably portrayed by all four actors without ruining the story.

I’m not sure if the above photo is a studio released promotion or not, but it wouldn’t make sense for the cinematographer to have a fake poster on his official website. The film is scheduled for release on September 24 of this year.

Poll: Who Should Get Heath Ledger’s Oscar

heath ledger 09 2 18 Poll: Who Should Get Heath Ledgers Oscar

Although, Heath Ledger hasn’t won the Oscar yet, I think it’s pretty clear from every other award show, audience reactions, and his performance, that he will be receiving an Oscar this Sunday. The question originally was who should accept his award, but the bigger question is, who gets to keep it?

“It’s complicated, because there are two different questions that have to be answered,” said Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy. “First, we have to decide who gets the job of accepting the award onstage on the night of the ceremony. And then there’s the question of the eventual disposition of the posthumous statuette, which may not stay with the person who accepts it.”

It would be natural for it to go to Ledger next of kin. But he divorced his wife Michelle Williams and his daughter Matilda is only 3-years-old and Davis has stated that “From our point of view, somebody has to sign the winner’s agreement, and a 3-year-old can’t do that… Nor can a parent sign any kind of legal document that obligates a child to do something once they turn 18. I didn’t know that before we looked into it, but it’s a good law.”

So who should get to keep the award? Vote for your pick below… Continue Reading

walle Round Up: Wall E, Dark Knight, Watchmen

Here are some of the top news stories of the day so far….

  • No Wall-E sequel for you! That’s pretty much what writer/director Andrew Stanton said regarding the buzz surrounding another Wall-E installment. “Personally, I never consider sequels. I always love the idea of something just being contained and done.” [MTV]
  • Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is developing a new project entitled, Damascus Gate. The film will be ”a political thriller involving a journalist and a group of extremists in modern-day Jerusalem.” [THR]

3 the dark knight 3 1024 This Week on DVD: The Dark Knight, Horton Hears a Who, The Wire

NEW FEATURE FILMS

“The Dark Knight”

Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine

There’s only one DVD release this week that matters and it’s this one, right? Right? I mean, this is the only DVD release that matters for the rest of the year. For the rest of the decade. For the rest of time. This is the greatest movie ever made. If you didn’t see it fifteen times in the theater you deserve to be tarred and feathered. If you didn’t dress like The Joker for Halloween, there’s something wrong with you. Hell, if you even watched another movie in the theater this year you were wasting your time. Why would you see something else when you could be seeing this impossibly perfect epic one more time? You’re a fool. Yes, I’m talking to you. The person who didn’t go to the midnight show. The person who didn’t see it three-dozen times. The person who hasn’t thought about this DVD release every day for the last few months.

New Photo of Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

legerparnassus08 10 23 New Photo of Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

As many of you already know, The Dark Knight was not Ledger’s last movie. All that bullshit you heard about the Joker being the end of him is completely false. His last film, which has yet to be released will be Terry Gilliam’s, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Here is a new photo just released on /film of Ledger in the movie.

Ledger died before the film was finished being made, so in order for them to finish the film, they stepped into their imagination and managed to find a way for the character to continue without Ledger. In the film, Ledger’s character reportedly falls through a “magical mirror” and lands in an alternate universe, which allowed for Jude Law, Johnny Depp, and Colin Farrell to step in and play interpretations of the Ledgers role.
