New Vanishing on 7th Street Movie Trailer

Back in August we gave you your first peek at the new Hayden Christensen film, Vanishing on 7th Street. Even though we’re not avid fans of the man’s acting we had to admit that the film’s premise had us intrigued. It brings a new meaning to the phrase “things that go bump in the night.” Check out the latest trailer courtesy of Yahoo Movies…

Vanishing on 7th Street is directed by Brad Anderson and appeared at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The story centers on a group of people stuck in the middle of a massive power blackout that causes the population to inexplicably vanish. The group of survivors band together inside a desolate tavern struggling to live as the darkness hones in on them.

Vanishing on 7th Street co-stars Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo. It’s a strange mix of actors but sometimes those make for the best ensembles. Stick these three in an unsafe environment where they have no idea what they’re up against and you’ve got yourself an interesting movie.

Hayden Christensen in Talks for Jumper Sequel

We have a love/hate relationship with Doug Liman’s sci-fi thriller, Jumper. The movie was panned by critics and everyone we know hated it, yet it made a boatload of money at the box office. So for those of you who contributed to its financial success, you should be proud (ashamed) of yourselves because a Jumper sequel is in the works.

Hayden Christensen, who played the lead character in the 2008 film recently spoke to MTV about whether or not Jumper 2 is in our future, and according to him — it is!

“We’re talking about it right now actually,” he said. Where could the story go? “Hopefully somewhere a little darker. I think there’s a lot you can do with it. It was sort of set up in a way it’s gonna be mother hunting son and possibly even maybe sister hunting brother. We’re talking about it, trying to figure it out.”

In the first film he played a young man who “thanks to a genetic hiccup, is gifted with the ability to teleport himself anywhere in an instant.” It sounds like a cool premise but the story was horribly written and there’s only so much Christensen we can take outside of the Star Wars universe.

Takers: Movie Review

Takers is what happens when half of Danny Ocean’s crew is combined with the team from The Italian Job, and the assassins from 1998′s The Big Hit. These are professional thieves, who dress nice, drive fast cars (and bikes), and aren’t afraid to kill someone when it comes to their money. Takers isn’t a particularly special heist movie but the actors try their best to make it one (and they look pretty good while doing it).

Here’s our review…

The Plot:

A group of career criminals are coaxed into performing an elaborate heist at the insistence of one of their former crew members. Not only is the job difficult but they only have a few days to plan (compared to the usual year) and their “inside” contacts are less than trustworthy. Hot on their tale is an overworked cop, who won’t rest until he brings the thieves to justice. Throughout his investigation and their preparation for the gig, the lines of good and bad become blurred.

The Good:

The Action: The trailer doesn’t do this film justice when it comes to the action. There are some slow-motion John Woo style shoot outs in this movie, along with a great Parkour sequence featuring Chris Brown pummeling through downtown Los Angeles. The sequences look so good because they’re all practical. The gun shots, the car crashes, the fight scenes, they’re all solid and appear real.
Idris Elba: The British actor plays the leader and co-founder of the crew (along with T.I.’s character) and he’s the center of it all. No move is made without his consent and he’s believable as a patriarchal figure amongst this group of grown men. He has the screen presence to pull it off.

The Bad:

Dialogue: There’s a lot of repetitive dialogue. “Goddammit” was used more times than I can count, even in situations when it didn’t need to be. Also, there were several corny lines used such as “It’s Showtime!” and “Let’s get paid!” They were forced attempts to sound hip.
ADR: The dubbing used was terrible especially towards the end during the actual heist. There are a lot of wide shots used and the director probably wasn’t able to pick up good audio so he had the actors go back and do ADR. Unfortunately, the words don’t match their mouths and instead of sounding as if it was happening in the moment, it sounds like an out of place narration.
Cliches: Several stereotypical situations that we always see in action movies rear their ugly head. Three of them play a huge part in the story so I won’t spoil it for you, but their easy to spot. The light bulb will go off and you’ll say to yourself, “I’ve seen this before!”
T.I. Harris: He’s one of the main characters in the film and it’s hard to watch his scenes because his acting is so bad. He over exaggerates all of his lines, and half the time you can’t understand him because of his thick Southern accent. How is it that Elba uses his British accent yet recites his dialogue clearly, and T.I. doesn’t?

Overall:

Takers is surprisingly entertaining. The acting and the story isn’t much but there are several sequences that are worth a second look.

Rating: 7/10

Hayden Christensen is at it again. The star of this month’s action flick Takers, has another film on the horizon that goes into darker territory. It’s called Vanishing on 7th Street and it’s a horror flick that features a lot of unnecessary yelling and bad editing to create suspense. The first trailer for the film has been released over on ShockTillYouDrop, but we’ve got the video for you right here. Take a look…

This film comes from the same guy who did The Machinist, so we’re sure he knows a thing or two about dark places — physically and mentally. The idea of light being the one thing that can kill you or keep you alive is interesting but there’s something about Christensen that throws us off. What do you think it is?

New Takers Trailer Looks Really Familiar

Do you have a craving for some really bad acting, stagnant fight choreography, and unnecessary and misused explosions? Lucky for you a new trailer for Takers has been released and it satisfies all those requirements. It’s an over the top action film with a premise that’s been used so many times it should be in public domain at this point. Takers stars Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, Michael Ealy, Zoe Saldana, and Matt Dillon. Watch the latest trailer, if you dare…

The basic premise of Takers surrounds a group of professional thieves who join forces with an unlikely ally for one big heist. Elba’s character is the leader of the group, while Walker is his second in command. It looks like Chris Brown does all the leg work and Hayden Christensen is some type of bad boy with a flare for beatnik fashion.

The first Takers trailer was filled with cliched action but this one is ten times worse. The only difference between the two is the amount of coverage they give Dillon, who plays the stereotypical cop who’s always one step behind his targets. Haven’t we seen this movie before? It all looks so familiar.

Explosive Takers Trailer

Earlier today we posted the first teaser poster for the upcoming action film, Takers. To be completely honest, it looked horrible. My reaction wasn’t unwarranted, and plenty of our readers felt the same way, but one of them brought something to my attention. An official trailer for Takers has just been released, and it actually gives us the opportunity to see what this ragtag team of actors are trying to do. If you were terrified by the film’s poster, the trailer may be too hot for you to handle.

Here’s the first trailer for Takers…

Obviously the trailer isn’t as bad as the poster, but there are still some campy elements floating around here. But first, let’s start with the positive aspects of the movie so far. Idris Elba is in it, and is exposing his well hidden English accent for the whole world to see. Amongst all the stars in this film, he’s the best actor out of the bunch. Sorry Matt Dillon, but I feel as if I’ve seen you play this role far too many times.

Now for the bad, T.I aka Tip Harris can not act. Can LL Cool J or Will Smith take him, Ludacris, and Common on a trip to The Actor’s Studio? He seems like he’ll have a huge part in this movie and that’s really unfortunate. I can’t take Chris Brown seriously with or without the drawn on goatee, and Hayden Christensen is just…Hayden Christensen. It’s a sad day in movieland when Paul Walker is pulling off one of the better performances in a film.

Takers opens in theaters on February 19, 2010.

After looking at the poster for the upcoming action film, Takers I’m convinced that someone should be fired. Takers is a heist movie that centers on a group of thieves who plan to pull off one last bank robbery before giving up their criminal lifestyle. Takers stars Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Michael Ealy, and Matt Dillion.

The poster for this film is really bad, so be careful with your eyes…

This has to be one of the worst teaser posters I’ve ever seen. Did someone actually get paid to put this together? The obvious Photoshopped heads are beyond cartoonish. Paul Walker and T.I. look the worst out of the bunch, and Hayden Christensen was obviously cut and pasted from a totally different photo. This is pure visual cancer.

Takers is produced by Screen Gems, and directed by John Luessenhop. The film opens in theaters on February 19, 2010.

Hayden Christensen Signed on to Vanishing on Seventh Street

Hayden Christensen has officially signed to star in writer/director Brad Anderson’s upcoming thriller Vanishing on Seventh Street according the THR. Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo are also currently in negotiations to join the project.

The biggest thrill about this film is that it’s not based on anything nor is it a remake! GASP! People can still do that?

The film was written by Anderson and Anthony Jaswinski and is about “a once-thriving city where shadowy forms cause residents to inexplicably disappear. Five survivors fight to stay alive while grappling with the meaning of existence.”

Edgar Ribon is another person who has been rumored to possibly be joining the cast, so he might be the 4th member to add to our five survivors. We’ll let you know once we have the final five are.

We do know that Christensen is set to play a reporter and if signed on, Newton will play a desperate nurse and Leguizamo a subway operator.

Shooting is set to begin mid-October in the once-thriving city of Detroit.

New York, I Love You Trailer Starring EVERYONE

This is quite possibly one of the biggest cast of directors and actors out there. New York, I Love You is a combination of 12 short films that take place in New York. The film follows (or rather pays omage to) the style of Paris, Je T’Aime. Each film has a different director, different actors, but they all come together in one way; they are about finding love in New York.

The film includes a series of short films directed by Jian Wen, Mira Nair, Brett Ratner, Allen Hughes, Shekhar Khapur, Natalie Portman, Fatih Akin, Joshua Marston and Randy Balsmyer. The film’s ensemble cast includes actors from all different genres including: Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Irrfan Khan, Emilie Ohana, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, James Caan, Olivia Thilrlby, Blake Lively, Drea de Matteo, Julie Christie, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Ugur Yucel, Taylor Geare, Carlos Acosta, Jacinda Barrett, Shu Qi, Burt Young, Chris Cooper, Robin Wright Penn, Eva Ammuri, Eli Wallach and Cloris Leachman.

For something that could seem so hectic, it’s actually very easy to take in. It’s nice to see such a wide variety of talent together. It seems like it’s a great excuse for some bigger stars who haven’t really done the romantic dramedy scene yet (Orlando Bloom, Shia La Beouf) to give the genre a try, as well as a place for up and comers (Rachel Bilson, Olivia Thirlby) to work with some big names.

The film will be in theaters October 28th.

The first poster has been released for the movie with 11 directors, New York, I Love You. This will be an anthology film that features many short stories about love in the city that never sleeps. The cast and crew are enough to sell the movie, regardless of the concept, plot, or scenery. The list of directors include Faith Akin, Allen Hughes, Joshua Marston, Natalie Portman, and Shunji Iwai among others.

Hayden Christensen is Mandrake

As I write this post I’m fueled by anger and disappointment. I don’t know if some of you remember this or not, but about two years ago (give or take) it was announced that there would be an adaptation of the comic strip, Mandrake. Created by Lee Falk, Mandrake is about crime fighting magician who uses illusions and hypnosis to defeat his enemies. According to Superherohype, actors Hayden Christenson and Djimon Hounsou have signed on to star in the live action film, and I have no idea why.

The corny premise of the comic has been updated to give it a more modern appeal for contemporary audiences. Mandrake will be portrayed as more of an adrenaline junkie who gets off on doing the impossible. Here is a brief description of what you can expect from the film:

Following a daring escape from an SUV that has been dropped out of an plane at the Burning Man Festival, he is coerced by the CIA into breaking a deep-cover agent named Xi Shing Lung out of a maximum security jail. Hypnosis, contortion, distraction and technical wizardry all come into play as Mandrake breaks the agent out from the inside within a 24-hour deadline.

“Hypnosis, contortion, distraction and technical wizardry ?” Am I the only one who thinks this sounds lame? I was actually willing to give this film a shot when I first heard of it. At that time Tudors star, Jonathan Rhys Meyers was attached to star, and even that was a bit upsetting. Now, out of nowhere he’s been replaced by Hayden Christensen? Where’s the justice? Please tell me this press release was a part of the studio’s “technical wizardry” because I’m not looking forward to this at all.
