A while back news broke that director Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks banner were looking to remake the classic 1950′s film, Harvey. Most fans of the original were against the idea, and hoped that it wouldn’t make it past the development stages, and according to Variety that’s exactly what happened. Spielberg is no longer attached to direct the film.

A while back we reported on the development news that Steven Spielberg would be directing a remake of the classic Henry Koster film, Harvey. The 1950 original starred James Stewart in the lead as a big-hearted eccentric who’s branded a crackpot for claiming to have a 6-foot tall invisible rabbit buddy.The biggest question that haunts this project is who will play Stewart’s character? According to Latino Review, Robert Downey Jr. may be up for the challenge.

How many of you remember the 1950 film Harvey, which starred the legendary James Stewart? It was based off of the 1944 Pulitzer Prize winning play of the same name by author Mary Chase. Super producer and director Steven Spielberg must be a fan, because he has officially taken on the task of bringing Harvey to the big screen one more time. According to Yahoo News, Spielberg has just signed on to direct the classic film about a man and his rabbit.

While you were out getting your laugh on at theaters watching Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen, here’s is what else was going on this weekend in the movie world:
- It has been 15 years since the movie True Lies came out and now the film’s three stars, including the two Arnolds (Tom Arnold and Mr. Schwarzenegger), and director James Cameron are coming together for a new project, possibly a sequel. - Steven Spielberg is set to direct a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize winning play “Harvey.” Harvey is the story of an amiable eccentric, Elwood P. Dowd, and his friendship with a six and a half feet tall invisible rabbit. The story shows how their friendship effects every member of his family and his community. As we all know the U.S. government, specifically California has been under fire for their refusal to recognize gay, bi-sexual, and transgender marriages. Once Proposition 8 was passed in the state last November, several organizations immediately went to work to appeal the decision. Since then it’s been an uphill battle, but many celebrities and other’s of influence have tried to do what they can to help obtain equality for all effected. Last year’s biopic Milk, which earned Sean Penn his second Academy Award, mirrored similar struggles of today’s gay community more than 30 years after Harvey Milk’s unfortunate death.

This past summer, Aaron Eckhart scored as an honorable D.A. turned mutilated vigilante in The Dark Knight. Now, he looks to be heading into even more trouble in his new project, Battle: Los Angeles. According to Variety, Eckhart has just signed on to star as the lead in this apocalyptic film, which focuses on a group of aliens trying to take over L.A. Eckhart will portray the leader of a Marine platoon,that becomes the cities only defense against the invaders. Eckhart can next be seen in 2009′s Traveling, a romantic comedy which co-stars Jennifer Aniston.
