Who likes cool stuff on sale? I know I do. Who likes it when you can be lazy enough that you don’t even have to go anywhere to buy cheap stuff? Blu-Ray discs are typically pretty expensive, but with Christmas coming up you can expect lots of sales and Amazon is always a good website to start with. So, we made a handy little list with some recent movies including, Up!, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Hangover, Star Trek, and District 9.

Box Office Predictions: Funny People

This week, Judd Apatow‘s Funny People hits theaters, and since Harry Potter has already been knocked off the number one spot, it seems like there is no doubt that Apatow will dominate the box office.

Last week, G-Force took the number one spot making over $30 million on its opening weekend, while Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came in second, grossing $29.5 million. It was a surprise to see Harry Potter off the top so fast, but perhaps the opening of Harry Potter on IMAX this week will boost ticket sales. Regardless, if the wizards make more or not with the help of IMAX, Funny People has a good chance of making the most and knocking the kid-flick G-Force off the top of the chart.

Apatow’s first feature film The 40 Year Old Virgin was successful in the box office making $21.4 million and ranking at number one. His second film Knocked Up didn’t hit the very top, but it did make more than the first one on opening weekend — $30.7 million.

Funny People stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann, not to mention a number of other successful co-stars. Adam Sandler has dominated the box office in the past one too many times. In 2007, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (despite the fact that it was absolute crap) grossed $34.2 million, in 2006, Click grossed over $40 million, and in 2004, 50 First Dates grossed $39.9 million on opening weekend. So as you can see, Sandler hold a good record for dominating the box office and this weekend seems like more of the same.

Also, opening this week are Aliens In the Attic, about a group of kids who set out to protect their vacation home from gooey green aliens, Adam starring Hugh Dancy as a young man with Asperges who falls in love with the woman of his dreams, The Collector, and The Cove, an amazing documentary dealing with the dolphin killings that occur every year in Japan. All of these films are set for limited release and don’t stand a chance in hell against the Sandler/Rogen/Apatow driven comedy Funny People.

This weekend belongs to Apatow and his comedic cast, we’re sure. So the question is, how much will it make?

Will it be able to break Apatow’s last opening weekend of $30.7 and Sandler’s latest opening weekend $34.2? So far, people have no been running out to theaters and people are unsure about it’s premise — a comedian dying and forcing another comedian to be his friend.

My guess, it comes it just under $30 million.

Movie Releases: Harry Potter, 500 Days of Summer, Death in Love

You already know all you need to know about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but that being said, there are a lot of othergood films coming out this weekend. Two movies that are eye-catch-y are Marc Webb’s (500) Days of Summer with Joseph Godon-Levitt and Boaz Yakin’s film Death in Love featuring Josh Lucas. The first of which is quite possibly the most fun and romantic film you’ll see all year, the other, it’s probably the most graphic. So hey, whatever you’re into!

Other than the obvious Harry Potter pick, what movie are you planning on going to see this week?

Harry Potter is a Record Breaker

There is no doubt that the Harry Potter franchise has been very successful at the box office. Even when first Harry Potter was debuted in 2001, it was able to pull in more than $300 million. This year, the latest Harry Potter film Half-Blood Prince is expected to do better.

According to Variety, midnight screenings for the Half Blood Prince reached new heights. That’s right, the wizards beat-out Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and The Dark Knight (the previous record holder) for the top grossing midnight screenings of all time – earning $22.2 million.

The Dark Knight is the second biggest film of all time (right beneath Titanic); it has pulled in $533.3 million so far. The Sorcerer’s Stone has been the biggest grossing film in the Harry Potter franchise, made over $300 million, but no-where near records set by both The Dark Knight or even, the latest Transformers which has made $343.3 million.

The lowest grossing Harry Potter film The Prisoner of Azkaban made over $249 million at the box office, the highest grossing one, Sorcerer’s Stone made $317 million, but they are predicting that latest Harry Potter is expected to top all anything Potter has ever seen before and give other top grossing films a run for their money.

Transformers has gotten an extra boost with IMAX sells; something that Harry Potter won’t get money from for another two weeks because Transformers 2 is still taking up seats. We have still yet to see how that will effect sales, will it encourage people go and see the film twice? Or will it simply drop off by then and hurt their overall profits?

We’re not sure, but with the latest Harry Potter being the highest midnight grossing film of all time, it is on it’s way to surpass the 23rd spot that Sorcerer’s Stone. It is highly doubtful that Harry Potter will break into the top five according to its previous numbers. T0 make it into the Top 5 it will have to gross over $435 million. Although it might make it into the Top 10, it only has to cross Lord of the Rings record which is currently at $377 million.

Photos of the Harry Potter Cast Over the Past 8 Years

Through the years we have watched the three stars of the Harry Potter movies grow up. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermoine), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), all went from little kids fighting over wizardry to saving people, going on dates, and doing all sorts of normal, teenager activities. It seems like only now that their maturity so noticeable. We thought it would be fun to see how these stars have grown since the first movie came out in 2001 until the present day, so we made a huge gallery charting them from Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001 to todays Half-Blood Prince.

Will The Stars of Harry Potter Make it Outside of Hogwart’s?

When the popular Harry Potter franchise first started, all of the child actors were complete unknowns. Over the years, the world has watched them evolve from cute little kids into seemingly well-adjusted young adults. There is something magical about this trio, they have all avoided crotch shots, pictures of them puking outside of bars, DUIs and the rest of that nonsense. Not only that, but they have all evolved into a talented group of actors who might actually have a chance at a career. With the end of the series quickly approaching, the question is, will they be able to transform from child stars into working adult actors?

Let us see how these stars have developed from tween stars into young adults and if they have a chance at lasting success…

Daniel Radcliffe – Harry Potter

The nice thing about a franchise is that the actors get a chance to really develop their character, and Radcliffe has done just that. He’s shown us that he’s capable of acting and carrying a franchise on his back. The biggest shock came in 2007, when Radcliffe decided to show that he wasn’t afraid to really bare himself, ALL of himself on stage in “Equus.”

He also had roles in smaller but well received films suck as December Boys and the soon to me released The Journey is the Destination. Although he could have had any “safe”, well paid role that he wanted, he went for something risky, which shows that he’s definitely not afraid of taking the leap into any type of role.

Thanks to his status he’ll be able to work with the best of the best, but due to what seems like a real desire to push boundaries, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of films from in the future, some which will be great and others which will go unnoticed.

If he plays his cards right he’ll definitely have a career and possibly an Oscar.

Chances of making it: High

Reminds us of former child actors: Josh Brolin, Leonardo DiCaprio

Rupert Grint – Ron Weasley

Rupert Grint is kind of the underdog of the three main characters; he is quirky and a little goofy-looking, but that is what makes him so lovable. Like Daniel Radcliffe, he has done movies outside of the world of Harry Potter, which you probably didn’t hear much about. He seems to have gone down the indie path; Grint starred in Driving Lessons opposite of Laura Linney, Cherrybomb, and soon to be releases Wild Target with Emily Blunt, Rupert Everett and Bill Nighy.

He doesn’t seem like he is banking off of his celebrity status to get high-profile roles and is instead going for smaller projects with great casts. He appears to be paying his dues as an actor and choosing some interesting roles.

He doesn’t have the star power of Radcliffe, but he is interesting and seems to be making smart moves. I bet he sticks around for a while and comes up with some interesting films.

Chances of making it: Likely

Reminds us of former child actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ron Howard, Elijah Wood

Emma Watson - Hermoine Granger

Emma Watson has certainly hit the jackpot in movie roles. She literally had no experience prior to her role as Hermoine Granger; but she has transformed from a hard-working little wizard into a hard-working actress.

Watson has lent her voice to the animated film, The Tales of Desperaux, starred in Ballet Shoes, signed a deal with Burberry as the face of their Autumn/Winter campaign, and is sexing it up on magazine covers. It appears she hasn’t gone crazy as she stays out of the tabloids, and is to attend college soon.

Although she has many solid films under her belt, the actress seems to be focused on school. We all know she could take an “acting break” for four years and still be one of the richest and most sought after actresses. Sounds like she’s got it all in the bag.

Chances of Making It: Very Likely

Reminds us of other child actors like: Jennifer Connelly, Kirsten Dunst, Helen Hunt, Natalie Portman, Christina Ricci

New Harry Potter Outpaces Transformers in Advance Ticket Sales

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is not coming out for another 8 days (July 15) and yet it is already on pace to outsell Transformers for advance ticket sales. The film already represents 61% of daily ticket sales according to Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination. As if fans need more of a reason to get advance sale tickets, Fandango, as a bonus, if giving every Harry Potter advance ticket buyer a free music download of the song Friends and Love, from the film’s soundtrack.

According to Fandango COO Rick Butler:

” ‘The Half-Blood Prince’ is turning out to be one of our fastest-selling titles of the year.”

This is the sixth Harry Potter movie in what will be a total of eight. There are seven books but the seventh book will be split into two separate movies. In a related promo, Fandango said a poll of more than 3,000 visitors to its Web site found that 85% of respondents had read all seven Potter books.

Poll: Harry Potter IMAX Debut Delayed – Do You Care?

The IMAX debut of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince will be delayed two weeks due to Transformer’s four week IMAX contract (read full story). On July 15th, the day the movie is released to the public, the film will only be able to be seen in three IMAX theaters; AMC Century City 15 (in Los Angeles), Henry Crown OMNIMAX (in Chicago), and AMC Loews Lincoln Square (in New York), everyone else will have to wait and suffer or watch and wonder.

The opening 12 minutes of Potter were converted to IMAX 3D, just like the final battle in the last movie that was in 3D. The movie was MEANT to be seen in 3-D.

So, now it’s your turn to weigh in on the matter….

Since only 12 minutes of the movie will be in IMAX 3D, this shouldn’t be a big deal but then again why make it in 3D and make audience members wait an extra two weeks to go see it?

The movie will open in IMAX at all remaining theaters on July 29th.

Half-Blood Prince Director Talks About The Last Two Harry Potter Movies

An LA Times interview with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince director David Yeats has given fans of the franchise something nice to contemplate as they prepare for the upcoming release of Half-Blood Prince — specifically what Yeats has in store for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

That would be parts I and II of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Presently there are only seven “Harry Potter” books from J.K. Rowling, and most fans of the books and films know the final novel will be broken into a two-part film.

Fair enough. Ah, but where in the final novel will Yeats and the producers decide to close out part 1 and set the stage for the final chapter?

During the interview Geoff Boucher asked Yeats if he had figured out where to end the seventh film and pick up with part 2 — in effect creating a much-needed cliffhanger.

“Yes, I think we have,” he said. “Things can change when you edit, of course, but the idea now is that it will be not long after the sequence that we are filming here today. That’s what we’re experimenting with. We’ve had three or four different ideas about where to cut off the seventh film. Traditionally, the movies have ended with a death or a bereavement, some sort of passage or arrival.

This time we think we will end with more a cliffhanger. Again, though, that’s the thought as of this moment.”

One could make the case that splitting the final installment into two films is just a studio ploy to extract as much profit as humanly possible, but Yeats defends the two-part decision:

“I will get the benefit of two budgets, the running time of two films and all the resources that brings with it to tell this huge adventure; more time, more money, more special effects. There are always things that are lost when you adapt a book to a film. With two films, much less will be lost.”

So we can chalk that up in the ‘good news’ category. We definitely do not want major plot points left on the cutting-room floor.

Of course there’s the title to think about: Will it be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, or will they tweak the second part and give the last film a more definitive title?

A new batch of poster’s for this summer’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince have just been released. Over at Latino Review they’ve gotten a hold of them and their all full of angst, just the way I like it! When Warner Bros promotes their blockbuster films they go hard. This installment of the popular franchise will deal with darker mystical fare as well as the teen’s raging hormones. As you can tell from the above photo, wizardry isn’t the only thing on these kid’s minds.

Is is just me or does the Half-Blood Prince look like a supernatural teen drama? The Harry Potter films have a lot of substance, but I can’t help but hear the theme song from The O.C. while viewing these posters. These kids really have grown up! Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will hit theaters next month on July 15.

New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Featurette

So much Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!!! We’ve seen Potter clips, after Potter photos, after Potter trailers. It’s insanity! The film doesn’t come out until July 15th, but the advertising campaign is going full force with promoting this film. Below is a new featurette for the film which goes a little more in the relationships in the movie. We get to see a few new images but not too many as to spoil the film for you. There’s also some behind the scenes footage which is pretty cool to see.

Enough with the chit-chat, check it out now…

I love the clips of Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn. He’s such a character himself, he fits perfectly into the Harry Potter world.
