It’s a old school/new school horror sequel versus a family friendly 3-D kids film in the race to get the top slot this weekend. Will Wes Craven‘s late-in-the-game sequel be able to relive its franchise’s former box office glory, or will it get trumped by the latest of a long line of animated kids films? No charming millionaire or genius teen assassin was able to bring Hop down from its No. 1 spot. Last weekend the kid film surprised us all with its high gross ($38 million); despite grossing a lot less ($21.6 million) than last weekend, newcomers Arthur and Hanna were no match for Hop. A surprise to us was how poorly the highly anticipated comedy Your Highness did at the box office. It seems like audiences didn’t care to see a James Franco/Danny McBride reunion, nor Natalie Portman shooting arrows. The biopic Soul Surfer had more tickets sales, and landed at No. 4. Shocked? Us too.

Rarely do you get so much fine acting, action and suspense all packed into one jet-fueled, 70s-Euro-esq thrill ride as you do in Hanna. Step aside Sucker Punch, it’s time for some real bad-ass chicks to take control. The film stars the impressive cast of the young and talented Saoirse Ronan; Cate Blanchette one of the best baddies there is; Eric Bana who provides both the depth and heart needed in the film; and finally Tom Hollander with one of his creepiest performances to date.

Last weekend Hop did much better than expected at the box office. With the opening of the Arthur remake on April 8, this weekend Russell Brand will be fighting against himself for the top spot. Meanwhile, a slew of new releases battle for box office supremacy with James Franco‘s stoner comedy Your Highness up against the action thriller Hanna, the teen drama Soul Surfer and Russell Brand’s Arthur. It will be a busy busy weekend at the box office.

Eric Bana is about to get his ass-kicked by a duo of bad-ass women in Joe Wright‘s latest film Hanna — and he couldn’t be happier. What makes this film great is that it’s a fun action/thriller filled with magnificent performances. From the young and talented Saorise Ronan to the cinematically potent Cate Blanchett, to Eric Bana, the reason for a whole lot of action – this film is filled with great performances. Bana’s character, conveniently named Erik, has to keep the story moving forward at all times– and it’s a joy to watch him perform. He carries the weight and depth needed to believe his character, but also has that sweet edge that has you always pulling for him. Find out how it all came together in our interview with him below…
Saoirse Ronan has quickly established herself as one of the most powerful, young actress on the big screen. She took on the complex emotional challenges of Atonement, the psychological depths of Lovely Bones and now mixes them all together in one bad-ass, yet sweetly naive, heroine in Hanna. There are very few 15-year-olds who would be able to handle such a complex role, with multiple languages, intense fight choreography, layers of intrigue, all while leading the way in a Joe Wright action/thriller — yet for Saoirse, it’s all in a days work. The film stars one of the most talented young actresses currently working today, Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) as Hanna with Eric Bana and Cate Blanchette in supporting roles, and Tom Hollander is one of his creepiest performances to date.
