A very solid week on DVD this week, crowned by this year’s Best Picture winner, The King’s Speech, making its way on to small screens. But that’s only leading a charge that includes bombs aplenty including misfires from Peter Weir, Sofia Coppola and a colossal pile of sunk costs from Jack Black!
All that plus some very cool retro TV on DVD choices and the latest film from one of the most legendary action stars of all time. Betcha can’t guess who it is.

Many thought Little Fockers (movie review) would be a huge mistake, and that it may have been for the critics but not the piggy bank. The third movie in the Meet the Parents franchise brought in over $34 million this Christmas weekend. The Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro movie was followed by the new Coen’s western True Grit (movie review). Unfortunately Tron Legacy wasn’t intriguing enough to keep up it’s number one spot even before it made back half its money, people must be a bit disappointed.
Check out this weekends box office numbers to see…

Even though we’re still slightly bitter that Gulliver’s Travels is the film that kept Emily Blunt from playing Black Widow in Iron Man 2 our anger is starting to subside. We’re at the point where we feel comfortable revealing the first theatrical poster for the film that features its main star, Jack Black. Check out the full sized image and see why “Black is the new big”…

Look over there! /Film has just put together a little bundle of set photos from Gulliver’s Travels, which reveal some new casting information for the film.
Catherine Tate who was rumored to be playing the Queen of Lilliput apparently got the role because she’s on set running around in a huge dress. Unless she just liked hanging around sets in full wardrobe, which would be a bit odd. James Corden and Billy Connolly also show up in some of the pictures, which again was a surprise for me. Who knew they were in the film?
I think that is Emily Blunt behind the tree in the photo above, but I’m not sure. Can you tell? Jack Black didn’t appear to be shooting anything, although if you look very closely you will see that he was wondering around the set in the photos below. Jason Segel (who we know is in the film) doesn’t seem to be making an appearance in any of the pictures, unless he’s hiding out somewhere I’m not seeing.
Check out the photo gallery below. Maybe you can find Segel…

Here are some of the top news stories from this past Valentines Day weekend….
- Several media sources are reporting that Scarlett Johansson may be Emily Blunt’s replacement to star as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. As we stated earlier, Blunt is trying to work out scheduling conflicts between Iron Man, and the Jack Black film Gulliver’s Travels. If the Johansson speculation wasn’t enough, rumors are swirling that Joss Whedon muse Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse) wants the role as well! [Slashfilm]
- A new poster has been released to promote the anime adaptation, Dragonball: Evolution. It features Goku, Bulma, Piccolo, Master Roshi, and Mai. The tagline for the poster reads, “Master Your Destiny.” Nope, I’m still not convinced. [Latino Review]
- Check out some footage of Kristin Kreuk in action as Chun Li in a fight scene from, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. The fight lasts a little over 30 seconds and I’ve definitely seen better, but you can judge for yourself. Be warned there’s some pretty bad wire work involved. [First Showing]
- The marketing relationship between movies and toys is getting stronger everyday.”The LEGO Group have announced a new licensing cross-over with Disney Consumer Products. Set to launch in 2010 are three new lines of interlocking blocks based upon the Prince of Persia movie, Toy Story and Cars.” [Slashfilm]
- Another TV spot for Warner Brother’s Watchmen has hit the airwaves! This is the 5th promotional spot for the movie, and boy does it bring the drama. [Superherohype]
