There has been a lot of back and forth on Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming Lord of the Rings spin off The Hobbit and it looks like the recent rumors that it’s been pushed off until next year may not be true. With both del Toro and Peter Jackson saying that the scripts have been completed and ready to go since April, they have been waiting for one thing just like every other filmmaker out there , the holy grail… I mean the green light.
Although no announcements have officially been made, our friends over at MarketSaw have said that they have a reliable source (which they normally do) from the 3D team that has been confirmed on the project who has said that the movie is moving forward. Their source told them when they asked about pre-productions beginning now:

Guillermo del Toro is the man who will usher in another series of Middle Earth stories with his adaptation of The Hobbit. The film that has been in development for years has finally picked up some speed and should go into production soon. According to an interview with the art designer Richard Taylor, del Toro was given the directing reigns because producer Peter Jackson believed that he could add something new to the series that would put a fresh spin on the tale.

Every week it seems like The Hobbit becomes the center of attention regarding its casting, budget and everything else under the sun. The last update we got for the film was from producer Peter Jackson, and he stated that every role was set to be recast except for Ian Mckellen‘s Gandalf. This had people worried because he made no mention of poor Andy Serkis as Gollum, so director Guillermo del Toro wanted to set the record straight.

Disney goes creepy. Dick Cook, the chairman of Walt Disney announced this morning at a Disney Presentation at D23 that Guillermo del Toro will be leading Disney’s new label “Disney Double Dare You” which will be animated films that are “meant to scare” and be filled with “chills and thrills.”
The project will be lead by Del Toro and is meant to bring back the imaginative and scary side of Disney. Del Toro was not able to be their in person because he was busy with The Hobbit in New Zealand, but he did make a big screen appearance where he told us that he will be behind all of them and intends to make them a “scary, thrilling experience” like the title alludes to.

The cult Spanish language horror film, The Orphanage is getting an American makeover. The original 2007 film was directed by Guillermo del Toro protege Juan Antonio Bayona. According to THR, actor-director-producer Larry Fessenden has been hired to helm the English language adaptation of the film.
