There was no way that amount of creative genius could be attached to the same project without the universe collapsing in on itself. Guillermo del Toro came out of hiding from those angry Hobbit fans to support Troy Nixey, the director of his upcoming feature, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Del Toro went back to his horror roots and wrote and produced the film. He was on hand at the Comic-Con press conference to discuss his remake of the 1973 made for TV movie of the same name.
The film’s about a girl who moves in with her dad and his girlfriend, only to discover that they’re sharing their home with some “devilish creatures.” It’s no surprise that while the the topic of fear was at hand and del Toro, being the amazing storyteller that he is, had a rather humorous tale to tell about his own fears and how he’s faced them.

Damn! Damn! Damn! We knew something like this would happen sooner than later. According to various sources, Guillermo del Toro will no longer direct the live action adaptation of The Hobbit. The film has been in development hell for ages and the production start date continues to get shuffled so his decision shouldn’t really come as a shock. There has been a lot of back and forth on Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming Lord of the Rings spin off The Hobbit and it looks like the recent rumors that it’s been pushed off until next year may not be true. With both del Toro and Peter Jackson saying that the scripts have been completed and ready to go since April, they have been waiting for one thing just like every other filmmaker out there , the holy grail… I mean the green light.
Although no announcements have officially been made, our friends over at MarketSaw have said that they have a reliable source (which they normally do) from the 3D team that has been confirmed on the project who has said that the movie is moving forward. Guillermo del Toro is the man who will usher in another series of Middle Earth stories with his adaptation of The Hobbit. The film that has been in development for years has finally picked up some speed and should go into production soon. According to an interview with the art designer Richard Taylor, del Toro was given the directing reigns because producer Peter Jackson believed that he could add something new to the series that would put a fresh spin on the tale.
