Every week it seems like The Hobbit becomes the center of attention regarding its casting, budget and everything else under the sun. The last update we got for the film was from producer Peter Jackson, and he stated that every role was set to be recast except for Ian Mckellen’s Gandalf. This had people worried because he made no mention of poor Andy Serkis as Gollum, so director Guillermo del Toro wanted to set the record straight.

Disney goes creepy. Dick Cook, the chairman of Walt Disney announced this morning at a Disney Presentation at D23 that Guillermo del Toro will be leading Disney’s new label “Disney Double Dare You” which will be animated films that are “meant to scare” and be filled with “chills and thrills.”
The project will be lead by Del Toro and is meant to bring back the imaginative and scary side of Disney. Del Toro was not able to be their in person because he was busy with The Hobbit in New Zealand, but he did make a big screen appearance where he told us that he will be behind all of them and intends to make them a “scary, thrilling experience” like the title alludes to.

I know a lot of you are asking yourselves, “Who is Deadman, and what does Guillermo del Toro have to do with him?” Deadman is a DC comic property about a hero, whose superpower in a nutshell is that he’s dead. OK, that’s not all he has going for himself, but that’s the overall idea. According to Screenrant the award winning del Toro is producing a live action adaptation of the comic for the big screen, and he’s already found a director.

The cult Spanish language horror film, The Orphanage is getting an American makeover. The original 2007 film was directed by Guillermo del Toro protege Juan Antonio Bayona. According to THR, actor-director-producer Larry Fessenden has been hired to helm the English language adaptation of the film.

We have seen some visual progress from Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit. If you were kind of bummed about the fact that they won’t be announcing any casting at this year’s Comic Con, at least we know they’ve started production design. Over at ComingSoon, they’ve published a photo of the rebuilding of the Hobbiton. It was previously featured in the Lord of the Rings (above) films, and of course it will be back for The Hobbit.

I had a feeling it was too good to be true. Yesterday we fed into the hype that the Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro collaboration The Hobbit would break some ground at this year’s Comic Con. More specifically we thought that a casting announcement would be made as to who will star as the lead character, Bilbo Baggins. Speculation from various media sources suggested Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, and David Tennant as the main actors up for the role, but Jackson has shut that rumor down.
