Because, apparently, you can’t reboot a film franchise without this guy, David Goyer—the man behind the scripts for Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel reboot of Superman—has been hired by Legendary Pictures to write the screenplay for (sweet, sweet Jesus, help us all) the upcoming Godzilla reboot. Yes, a film about a skyscraper-sized lizard that shoots rays out of its mouth. Is being rebooted. In the 21st century. Yup.

We’ve known for some time now that Gareth Edwards‘ the man who wow-ed everyone with his ultra-low budget, first movie, Monsters is set to direct the reboot of another monster production only this time with a budget and a recognizable name to match – Godzilla. While promoting the release of his film Monsters on Blu-ray this week he dropped a few hints as to his latest monstrosity (see what I did there?). Back in March we reported that a reboot of the famous horror franchise Godzilla was on its way. The last time we saw the monster in US theaters it was in Roland Emmerich’s 1998 remake of the original that featured Matthew Broderick. To say it bombed at the box office would be an understatement, so the folks over at Legendary are trying their hardest to rectify that mistake. More news has surfaced regarding the next film, which will have a darker more serious tone.

The last time I saw a legit, big screen adaptation of the classic Godzilla story (in the US) it was in 1998. The film was directed by disaster film icon Roland Emmerich and starred Ferris Bue…I mean Matthew Broderick. The movie was a disappointment in every sense of the word, but 12 years later Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have gotten the urge to do it again.
