Ghostbusters 3—in the annals of Hollywood’s ‘development hell,’ this proposed sequel continues to simultaneously serve as one of the most frustrating, and yet, entertaining entries.  It’s frustrating because it’s likely impossible to top the stellar original (Ghostbusters 2, anyone?), and yet the infamous stories of infighting between Bill Murray (who has publically declared the idea of a Ghostbusters 3 as a horrible one) have been fairly entertaining thus far—Murray reportedly Fex Ex’d a shredded copy of the script to Dan Aykroyd when asked if he would return as Doc Venkman.

That slow sense of creeping dread is coming from Dan Aykroyd, who recently talked with Empire Magazine about the state of Ghostbusters 3. Aykroyd told the magazine they really want Rick Moranis to be a part of the movie – which would be a coup as the actor hasn’t appeared on screen since 1997 – and that he plans to go forward with or without Bill Murray. But only once the script is right, though.

There’s been a lot of speculation regarding the long gestating Ghostbusters 3 sequel. All the key actors from the previous films seem to be on board including Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, and Dan Aykroyd but Bill Murray hasn’t been nailed down. Turning a corner on the floor during Comic-Con‘s preview night, we all drew a collective gasp followed by a slow exhale of “Coooooool!!!” Behold, the Ecto-1 in all it’s glory. The only thing that could have made the moment even cooler is if a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man had been handing out fresh s’mores or Slimer was doing a booth appearance.

After years of waiting for a third Ghostbusters film, we finally got the old crew back together including Bill Murray and original director Ivan Reitman. This sounds like a dream come true for any die-hard fan, but unfortunately the bliss might be cut short according to a report from MTV. Finally some form of confirmation has come out of the Ghostbusters camp and it’s from Ivan Reitman himself. Over at MTV the director confirmed that he WILL direct the long awaited sequel Ghostbusters 3, that follows the previous 1984 and 1989 installments. For months there’s been speculation regarding whether or not he’d take on the position, and he recently cleared up all doubt.
