Mad Max Fury Road to Shoot in Early 2012?

Tom Hardy is one of the biggest stars to come out of 2010 with a major career boost. He stole the spotlight in Inception, earned a prime supporting role in The Dark Knight Rises, and did we mention he’s the new Mad Max? The British actor is picking up where Mel Gibson left off in George Miller’s Australian, desert epic. Even though the film has been in development for a while, they’ve yet to settle on a production start date — or have they?

According to The Daily Telegragh, Miller is looking to start filming Fury Road in early 2012. The film has been delayed multiple times for various reasons, and the director anxiously wants to get things going.

“We’ve built the vehicles,” Miller says, “We’ve designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It’s all ready to go. We just wait.”

Miller’s not making just one film, he’s shooting two sequels back to back: Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa. The reason behind their new production start is weather. They’re looking to dodge the excessive rain that has ruined their Australian desert location.

Hopefully, when the new year comes around they can immediately get to work. A lot of people want to see if Hardy can pull off such an iconic role. Plus, we want to see him in those famous leather pants. Bring on Max!

George Miller continues to feed the publicity machine with his pending Mad Max sequel, Fury Road. It seems like every other post we write has to do with that film, and here’s more fuel to add to the fire. The director recently spoke with ABC News about some of the props (cars) that will be used in the fourth installment, as well as a few casting tidbits for the “Road Warrior” franchise.

As you can see from the video he spoke about a lot of the tech stuff that goes into making an action film in today’s day and age. He makes the stunt work sound pretty serious, so that was an exciting aspect to hear him speak on. Other than that, I want a straight yay or nay on a Mel Gibson cameo! Even though it would be interesting to see what other home grown Australian talent he will pick up for the title role, I’m going to need more options thrown out besides Sam Worthington.

Could this be a casting development for the upcoming Mad Max sequel/reboot? There have been rumors floating around regarding the fourth installment of the action franchise that made Mel Gibson a star for years. Director George Miller has been more than vocal about his desire to produce another film. Now we’re hearing rumors via EOnline that Oscar winner Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy may have been cast as the leads in the new film.

The working title being used for the film is Mad Max: Fury Road, instead of Mad Max 4 (that doesn’t roll the tongue as well). According to multiple sources, Theron is already on board to star as the female lead in the movie that will feature British actor Tom Hardy replacing Gibson in the title role. Miller stated himself that Gibson was too old to continue on in the series so he planned to recast him.

We also heard that The Hurt Locker star, Jeremy Renner was up for the title role in the film, but obviously that speculation has died down. I’m not sure if I even care about a fourth Mad Max film. Is that bad? Thunderdome was pushing it for me, I’ll always be a fan of the very first installment of the series. Even though Mel is no longer the star, he has to make some type of cameo right? They just can’t ignore his existence.

George Miller Gets Animated With Mad Max 4

Dammit, I thought we were done with this?! I had heard rumors about a possible fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise, but I didn’t believe the hype. According to MTV, I can breathe a sigh of relief because even though it looks like the film will happen, it wont be in the capacity that we think. In an exclusive interview with Mad Max director George Miller, he revealed that the next film will be a 3-D anime!

Mad Max as an anime? Can it happen? Most importantly, where does Mel Gibson fit in all of this? According to the director, Gibson wont be the center of attention in this one. With this animated feature, Miller has decided not to use his voice for the lead. He simply stated, “We’ll probably go a different route.” Ouch.

The film will be rated R and will incorporate the same elements that were present in the other three movies.

I see myself as someone who is very curious about storytelling and all its various media,” Miller said. “I’ve always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.” “The anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change,” he explained. “It’s coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime. There’s going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities. [Japanese filmmaker Akira] Kurosawa was able to bridge that gap between the Japanese sensibilities and the West and make those definitive films.”

He’s working an interesting angle here, but I’m still on the fence. It’s hard enough making one or two sequels decent but a third? We saw what happened to Superman IV. Not only is Miller not going to have the one person who is synonymous with the main character, but he’s also changing the format of the film. Brave man.

NEWS: Justice League Drops Miller

Apparently, The Justice League wants bigger and better. Dark Horizons reports that filmmaker George Miller (Happy Feet, Mad Max) appeared on Sydney-based morning talk show called “Sunrise” on Monday morning and said that he is no longer involved with the Justice League in ANY way. It is unclear who called it off, but one things for sure, it’s over.

He was unsure who, if anyone would be taking over the project, but he said that if it does continue it will most likely be recast because “the studios seem to want bigger stars in their superhero movies now.”

Miller then admitted that he would love to work with Mel Gibson again on a new Mad Max script. Unfortunately Gibson has stated that he has no interest in going back to the franchise, he hasn’t given up on that possibility just yet. Miller is schedule to take on The Odyssey which is due out in 2012, assuming it takes off.
