The Green Lantern - which is due out June 17 – has so far only had one trailer that left the fan-base cold. It featured a more jokey Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, and it seemed to be played for laughs. For this weekend’s WonderCon presentation, Warner Brothers went the exact opposite direction with the Martin Campbell-helmed Superhero adaptation, and sold both the scale and the seriousness of the world of Green Lantern. In an attempt to squeeze the last few coins out of the domestic box office of the Academy award-winning film The King’s Speech, The Weinstein Company will put out a PG-13 cut of the film which changes the four letter words that got the film rated R. The sanitized version will come out April 1 on 1000 screens and will be the only version in theaters. The film won Best Picture, and won Oscars for director Tom Hooper and star Colin Firth, and got co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter nominated.

So, there’s a new Pirates of the Caribbean film due May 20, and that’s now less than two months away. For the fourth film (subtitled On Stranger Tides), they’ve ditched Orlando Bloom (nicknamed by Paul Schnieder “Orblando Gloom”), Keira Knightley, and trilogy director Gore Verbinski, and added director Rob Marshall, and stars Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane to the Johnny Depp show. Disney is in deep planning for their fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film entitled On Stranger Tides, which is scheduled for a 2011 release. Recently, the studio announced that their longstanding Chairman Dick Cook was leaving the company, and it left a lot of people bitter. News spread like wildfire throughout Hollywood and Johnny Depp wasn’t the least bit thrilled.
He vocally expressed his lack of enthusiasm about returning to do another movie, and clarified that he’s still in negotiations. Will the film go on as planned? Geoffrey Rush seems to think so.

According to THR, TWC has picked up the rights to produce the film based on the life of British Royal, King George VI. Wow, talk about getting all the greats onto one stage…set. Same difference. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Julie Taymor (Titus, Across the Universe), no stranger to Shakespeare will be taking on one of his greatest plays The Tempest and she’s doing it with one of the best casts you’ve ever seen.
The film will be shaking up Shakespeare’s last play by mixing up the roles a bit and altering the story for screen. The Reporter stated: “Shakespeare’s play mixes romance with fraternal politics and the supernatural. As revised for the screen, it will center around Prospera, her daughter Miranda (Jones) and a shipwrecked crew full of Prospera’s enemies.”
