Playing like a Cliff’s Notes version of the classic novel, and featuring the famously wooden Garrett Hedlund (aka, the really bland guy from Tron: Legacy) and Kristin Stewart (aka the really bland girl from the Twilight films) in two of the novel’s most electric roles, the trailer for Walter Sales’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic Beat novel, On The Road, has finally been released after filming ended in 2010.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The American remake of Akira, the 1988, mind-bendingly crazed/ brilliant Japanese anime film, has gone from being a two-film, $230 million adaptation directed by the Hughes brothers and starring Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves to being busted down by Warner Bros. to a $90 million single film directed by the guy who made the Paris Hilton-starring House of Wax and Liam Neeson’s Unknown. And today, it was announced that Garrett Hedlund (a.k.a. the guy who played Jeff Bridges’ kid in Tron: Legacy), will play the lead role of Kaneda. Which totally makes sense, you guys, seeing as how Hedlund is a 27 year old white man and Kaneda is a 15 year old Asian boy.

Garrett Hedlund is on his way to the top. The Minnesota native who made his feature film debut as a teenager alongside Brad Pitt in 2004′s Troy, has been quietly working ever since. He appeared in the football drama Friday Night Lights, the urban crime thriller Four Brothers, and most recently the long awaited Disney sequel Tron Legacy. The actor revealed the amount of training it took to pull off his performance scenes, and the amazing artists who helped meld his novice talent. It was a lot harder than he thought it would be.
