Over the past year, Ethan and Joel Coen, along with director Michael Hoffman have been developing a remake of the 1966 film Gambit. We know a lot of you were probably thinking of the famous X-Men character when you read the title, but alas, it’s not him. He may not be a mutant, but this Gambit is also a thief, and he’ll be played by Oscar hopeful Colin Firth. Deadline is reporting that the female lead, which was previously played by Shirley MacLaine, has been filled with Cameron Diaz.

Back in April we told you that Doug Liman was up to direct the developing remake of the 1960s film Gambit but unfortunately that deal fell through. The project was left in limbo, which is insane considering that Oscar winners Joel and Ethan Coen penned the screenplay. According to Deadline, they’ve finally found someone to pick up where Liman left off — Michael Hoffman.

When you hear the word Gambit, you might think of the auburn haired, card-throwing mutant who appears in the X-Men comic book series. Sorry for the false advertisement but this story has nothing to do with him. According to Deadline, Doug Liman is in negotiations to direct the remake of the 1966 film of the same name that starred Oscar winners Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is right around the corner now. Only a few weeks to go and MTV has just premiered 5 new 30 second character profiles for Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), and Wraith (Will.i.am).
My favorite is Deadpool, because I like characters who are sarcastic and completely crazy. You can definitely see why they were/are considering giving him his own film. He’s an extremely interesting character to watch and Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the part.
Check out the videos below and let us know which one is your favorite!

A new 60 second TV spot has been released for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This one is set up a little differently than the previous promos we’ve seen. Instead of giving us a glimpse of the film’s storyline, it just tells us what major characters will be featured. Whether or not I agree with the who’s who in this video is up for debate. I don’t want to spoil too much for you, so if you want to check out the video it’s available after the jump.

New X-Men Origins:Wolverine photos are here, courtesy of Marvel.com. Over at the site they recently posted three more promo pics for the upcoming summer film, which include another image of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. The other two photos are of Agent Zero (Daniel Henney), and William Stryker (Danny Huston). Even though I’m happy to see these guys get some well deserved exposure, I still have to beg the question. Where is Dominic Monaghan as Beak? What does this guy look like in the movie? Will we ever know? I’m still waiting Marvel, but until then I’ll have to quench my curiosity with these.

The final trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine has just been released! For the most part the trailer shows footage that we’ve already seen, mixed with a couple unfamiliar action sequences. There are a few shots of a young Cyclops that weren’t in the first, and more fight footage with Gambit, Deadpool, and of course Wolverine. After watching the trailer I’ve learned one important thing. Wolverine can use his claws for ANYTHING. He can open prison cells, start fires, shred trucks, and stab airplanes. It’s a bit much but this is an action movie, don’t we want some of the violence to verge on ridiculous?
Check out the trailer after the jump.
