Surprise Surprise! Slumdog Millionaire SWEPT the Oscars with eight wins, including the highly anticipated award for Best Picture. With it’s outstanding ensemble cast, kick-ass soundtrack, and obviously genius direction by Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire just put India on the map!
It’s been an incredible year in story-telling. Every single Best Picture nominee (The Curious Case of Bemjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader, Frost/Nixon, and Milk) was endearing and had incredibly relevant themes – each bringing something completely fresh to the table. In fact, any of these five films seem worthy of the award in my book.
Bravo to another brilliant year in film. And let’s start counting down ’til next February!

…Oh and a whole lot of other people. It’s really interesting to listen to Frank Langella’s talk about accepting the role of Nixon. Even when portraying a man as well known as Nixon it’s all about trusting what’s already in you. Yes he researched and added an accent, but the heart of the character was already in him and at the end of the day very hard to let go.
To watch the long 56 minute program with Langella and Howard go here.

Looks like the most popular films this year for the The Golden Globes are: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt and Frost/Nixon. Each film nabbed five nominations including best actor, best feature, and more.
There were a few surprises:
- Tom Cruise managed to get a nomination for his supporting role in Tropic Thunder, along with Downey Jr. Looks like there might be some tension at that table.
- Heath Ledger (not really a surprise) was also nominated for best supporting actor in The Dark Knight.
- Milk was only nominated once. Sean Penn managed to get a nod for Best Actor. I would have liked to have seen 1-2 more nominations for this film.
- The Dark Knight was not picked for best feature (is this a prelude to the Oscars?)
- Also, has anyone even seen Revolutionary Road?

Academy Award winning director Ron Howard presents Peter Morgan’s adaptation of Frost/Nixon – featuring the series of monumental interviews between British T.V. host David Frost (Michael Sheen), and former U.S. President, Richard Nixon (Frank Langella). Three years of silence followed Nixon’s 1974 resignation, and until the 1977 interview, the infamous Watergate scandal that ultimately ended Nixon’s presidency, remained publicly unaddressed. Frost, hoping to score plenty of numbers on the viewing charts was anxious to restore his dwindling career in hosting, and Nixon, convinced he could easily manipulate and verbally withstand the goofy sell-out, was desperate to regain both the status of “statesmen” and affection of his country. Frost/Nixon presents the verbal duel that not only measured the strength and integrity of two men, but inspired the highest number of viewers in the history of American television.

Whose going to make some money this weekend? I don’t think Cadillac Record, Punisher: War Zone, Frost/Nixon or any of the upcoming films will be able to knock down last weeks top three, Four Christmases, Twilight, and Bolt. That’s almost a certainty. The question is, where will Bond fit in? Most people think Punisher will beat it out, but I’m not so sure. Even though it’s the opening weekend for Punisher, I think it will still be a race. What do you think?
Here are the predicted numbers for this coming weekends grosses, totals, and changes since last weeks numbers.

Awesome week people! Frost/Nixon is definitely this film to see this week, possibly in a double feature with Milk . Next in line is, Cadillac Records, another step in the Walk the Line and Ray series. What have we learned? Being a musician kind of sucks. The best reviews so far have gone to Timecrimes, which has a limited release but if it’s near you is definitely worth watching. Check out the rest of the films below…
