ab021409jason Review: Friday the 13th

Much like Rob Zombie’s quite excellent version of Halloween, the latest installment in the Friday the 13th franchise has been billed as a remake of the 1980 slashtastic original.  The problem with that is, in the original flick, Jason’s mom did all the killing. Fast forward to 2009 and nobody wants her cockblocking their quality time with her son. Other than a brief re-enactment of that iconic scene where she gets her head flown with a machete, which comes right at the beginning of this film, momma Voorhees mostly sits the bench this time around.  So technically, this is more like a remake of Friday the 13th Part 2, but for the people behind the film to admit that would just be stupid. But questionable remake status doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. Continue Reading

Here are some of the top news stories of the day…..

  • Speaking of Friday the 13th, check out some video interviews with the film’s cast. The actors featured include Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti and Danielle Panabaker. Watch as “they talk about their roles in this reboot of the long-running slasher franchise and their encounters with Jason Voorhees.” [Shocktillyoudrop]
  • Sad news to report. They’re making a movie based on the children’s toy, Stretch Armstrong. It’s disturbing, but true. Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights from Hasbro, and they’ve hired Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty) to write the script. [Variety]
  • Academy Award winning director Curtis Hanson has signed on for a new film entitled, Gemini Man.”The Disney project involves a government agent on the verge of retirement, only to wind up in the sights of an assassin who is actually a young clone of himself.” [Joblo]

Movie Releases: Confessions of a Shopaholic, The International, Friday the 13th…

movierel09 2 12 Movie Releases: Confessions of a Shopaholic, The International, Friday the 13th...

I think I might be the only person excited for Under the Sea 3D, not because Jim Carrey narrates it, but because I just think it looks fascinating. Confessions of a Shopaholic is actually a lot of fun. And for all of you looking to avoid Valentine’s day with a cute/easy to watch movie, it’s not a bad choice. It has it’s issues but for that type of film, you can easily let them slide. The International looks far more interesting than it actually is. I’d say take a pass on this one. As for Two Lovers, Friday the 13th, and Gomorrah, they are all great picks if that’s what you’re into. So, it’s your call, depending on what you’re in the mood for…

fridaythe13th1 New Teaser: Friday the 13thYou KNOW that they had to get this one out just in time for Halloween!  It seems like the studio should be right on track for a February 13th (Friday) release date.  Studio executives keep making more of these because there are people like me who want to see anything with that name on it.  If you love the brand like I do, and this one looks like it’s going to do it justice!

Synopsis: Apparently, killing runs in the family.  The Crystal Lake campgrounds are still haunted, but this time by the Jason Vorhees.  The man with the hockey mask is back to exact revenge on everyone who stays in the campground.  Screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, with Pathfinder director Marcus Nispel directing. Danielle Panabaker and Jared Padalecki head up the cast.

This is just a teaser but it makes me excited.  Watch the teaser after the jump and tell us what you think.
