We thought we were done with old school horror monsters in film after the failure of Joe Johnston’s Wolf Man. Instead of Universal, it looks like Sony wants to try their hand at Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. According to Deadline, it will be a contemporary version of the classic to be produced by former Sony co-president Matt Tolmach.

Frankenstein is back! Death Ray Films director Patrick Tatopoulos has signed on to bring the upcoming Darkstorm Comics title I, Frankenstein to the big screen. It will be based on the comic by Underworld creator, Kevin Grevioux who will be working on the project along with Tatopoulos. The film is supposed to have a more mentally developed version of Frankenstein’s monster who plays a no-nonsense taking detective, while Dracula plays the role of a crime kingpin. The image we have below for you, from AICN, is of the bride in the film. It is unbelievable how with no hair and crazy fang-like fingers she still looks very feminine.  This only makes me more anxious to see the movie.

frankenstein I, Frankenstein Comic Heads to the Big Screen

I’m getting a bit jaded when it comes to all of these comic book adaptations studios are picking up. With so many being produced at once, they’re either going to run out of material or start creating books just for the sake of making a movie out of it. According to THR, a film version of the upcoming DarkStorm Comic I, Frankenstein is being developed by Underworld co-creator Kevin Grevioux, director Patrick Tatopoulos, and Death Ray Films. So we can add this one on to the pile of growing comic based features.
