Over the past few weeks, fans of the X-Men franchise have been sitting on pins and needles waiting for details regarding the plot to the prequel First Class. The recent influx of casting changes including the addition of January Jones as Emma Frost and Zoe Kravitz as Angel (Salvadore?) has taken people for a loop. Over at AICN, they were able to set the record straight with an interview from producer Bryan Singer who not only clarified the film’s story but also Kevin Bacon’s role as the villain.

For those of you who have been following the X-Men First Class casting drama, this news will confirm your worst fears. Yesterday, it was announced that January Jones (“Mad Men“) had been hired to play Emma Frost in the film, even though Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) landed the part weeks prior. This move made no sense and left a lot of us wondering what the hell happened. According to ComicBookMovie Eve originally had the role but left it willingly because she didn’t like the script. This news truly comes as a shock. According to Variety, “Mad Men” star January Jones has been cast in the role of Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class. This announcement would be fine and dandy if it wasn’t for the fact that Alice Eve had already been confirmed for the part. We guess somebody got their info wrong because Betty Draper will be the new telepath on the block.

What movie is this? Are they sure they’re making X-Men First Class over at Fox because it’s starting to look like a big clusterf*ck. Earlier today we reported on two new additions to the cast with Rose Byrne and Jason Flemyng as Dr. Moira MacTaggert and Nightcrawler’s father Azazel. If those weren’t enough, Deadline is reporting that Oliver Platt (“The Big C“) has also signed on for a role and we know for sure it’s not Cyclops! What the hell?

Now that Matthew Vaughn is fully on board with Fox’s superhero spin-off, X-Men: First Class, he has some wise words to share about comic book movies. Inception is coming off of its third consecutive week as number one at the box office. This could be because a) it’s a good movie, b) the competition this summer is extremely weak, or c) both. Either way, you can’t deny the amazing mind bending effects or the crazy storyline that goes with them. Since the majority of the general population has seen the movie, X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaughn got worried that audiences might view scenes from his upcoming film as cheap knock-offs of Christopher Nolan’s work.

After the abomination of X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it’s safe to say that the Marvel franchise is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Twentieth Century Fox’s latest attempt to restore dignity to the series comes in the form of First Class which will be produced by Bryan Singer and directed by Matthew Vaughn. In a recent interview with SyFy’s Blastr, Singer opened up about the film’s casting and how he wanted Twilight’s Taylor Lautner to be one of its stars!
