Studios – like Ain’t-it-Cool-News Talkbackers – love calling “First!” And with studio tentpole titles, they like to have breathing room. The weekends for big releases are now being called years ahead of time, with films that often have no scripts and no casts. Maybe they have some contractual agreements with the stars – stars often have to sign on for a number of films if the studio thinks they have a franchise – but even there, the cast and crew aren’t always lined up. On that note, Universal has announced that Fast Five‘s sequel will be hitting theaters May 24, 2013.
A few weeks ago we posted a couple of photos from the overtly masculine set of Fast Five, the latest sequel in the long running Fast and the Furious franchise. The majority of the actors in the cast have appeared in previous installments but there are a few new faces this time around with the most obvious being Dwayne Johnson. King Kong lovers rejoice, may be a new movie that is made soon. According to Variety, Spirit Pictures producers have picked up the rights to Kong: King of Skull Island, which is a prequel to the more well known Kong movie. Get more info including who will be a part of the project. (Variety)
Paradox Entertainment has a new deal with Dark Horse Comics to publish books based on its slate of films in development. Paradox Entertainment, is currently developing a reboot of the “Conan the Barbarian” film franchise. Read all about the joint venture between the two. (Variety)
