As Labor Day peeks in, a number of films will be hitting theaters this three-day weekend, but who will bring in the big bucks and the number one spot? First up is Gamer, a high-concept action thriller set in the near future when gaming and entertainment clash into one. Sandra Bullock will keep the torch burning with her second romantic comedy (oh, sorry we’re not supposed to call it that, in which case I have no clue what to call it) this summer, All About Steve, which also stars The Hangover‘s Bradley Cooper. And humor takes form in Mike Judge’s Extract starring Jason Bateman.
Who will lead the pack? Let’s take a look…

Mike Judge goes back to work this Labor Day weekend with his latest comedy, Extract. Known for his character driven films based on the everyday man, the director shifts his focus from the office to a manufacturing plant. Instead of highlighting the trials and tribulations of the average employee, the film is told from the perspective of the boss. With a cast led by the always funny Jason Bateman, Extract isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions. What would you do if one of your testicles got blown off at work?

The king of workplace comedy Mike Judge is at it again. From the cubicle to the factory, the director is behind the upcoming comedy Extract. The creative genius is a man of few words, but has an obvious confidence when it comes to his work. Judge is a writer, director, actor, producer, and animator who’s responsible for creating some of the most popular films and television series in pop culture. I’m talking Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, and my personal favorite Office Space, which just celebrated its 10th year anniversary.
We recently spoke to Judge about Extract, his first feature film since 2006′s best kept secret, Idiocracy. Sit back and enjoy our interview as we ask him about Jason Bateman, his writing process and oddly enough, American Idol.

Funny man Jason Bateman is headling the latest workplace comedy from director Mike Judge entitled, Extract. The actor has been in the business for almost 30 years, and has made his mark in feature films by starring in mostly supporting roles. In Extract, he steps out of the shadow of Will Smith and Vince Vaughn to showcase his skills as a leading man.
We recently caught up with Bateman to talk about his current project as well as a few from the past (Arrested Development, Silver Spoons). We wanted to know what it was like working with Judge as a director, and whether or not he sees himself behind the camera one day. Here’s the rundown of what happened when we got to sit down with Michael Bluth aka David Hogan aka Jason Bateman.

There is so much going on this week, I thought I should give you guys a quick roundup of some of news in the movie world today that weren’t able to cover today:
- Get to know all the characters of Mike Judge’s film Extract coming out September 4th. The film, which stars Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, and Kristen Wiig is about Joel (Bateman), the owner of an Extract plant, tries to contend with myriad personal and professional problems. Read all you need to know about each character (including character posters) and tell us what you think so far. (Extract-The Movie)
- Steve Harvey’s book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” goes to the big screen. According to Variety, Screen Gems has acquired rights to turn the comedian’s book on advice to women who wanted to better understand their male counterparts. Read about the project and who has signed on so far. (Variety)
- Bob Marley’s documentary, Marley, loses another director. The film was first supposed to be directed by Martin Scorsese but due to scheduling issues he was replaced with Jonathan Demme, but now Demme is no longer part of the project. According to /Film, Demme’s exit occurred after the movie’s producer, Bill Clinton pal Steve Bing, saw the director’s first round of editing and was less than impressed. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next with the film about the reggae icon. (/Film)
Who do you think should direct this film? How cool is it that former president Bill Clinton is part of this film?

More Extract photos have been released! The Mike Judge comedy that stars Jason Bateman as the owner of a vanilla extra plant won’t hit theaters until next month, but we got a few new images to tide you over until then. They feature Bateman, Mila Kunis, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Kristen Wiig. I don’t want to spoil them for you, but let’s just say in one of the photos Bateman’s character looks like he had a rough night.

The individual character posters for the Mike Judge comedy Extract have all been released. Over at Collider, they have the photos which feature Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis, and Kristen Wiig. I love the tag line that refers to “the creator of Office Space heading back to work.” I’m so ready for this movie. I want to see Affleck stone it up like I know he can. Bateman is always hilarious, but I’m really excited to see Ben go there!
