brucecampbell Bruce Campbell Explains Role in Evil Dead Sequel

I love the relationship between Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. They’re one of the many director, actor teams in Hollywood who have a professional relationship that spans over decades. We’ve all heard about Raimi’s highly anticipated sequel to his classic and career defining, Evil Dead franchise. As of now, he’s got a script in the works and casting on his brain for another installment in the horror series. The director has been open about wanting Campbell to reprise his role as the film’s lead Ash, a character he hasn’t played in over 15 years.

***Update: Check out our new Sam Raimi interview for Drag Me to Hell now***

During an interview with Empire magazine Sam Raimi confirmed that he and his brother have been working on Evil Dead 4. So far they’re only seven pages into the project, but you have got to start somewhere!

Raimi said during the interview:

“Every time I’m with my brother Ivan, we write another page of it. It’s in Detroit and in my garage…There’s some dialogue. Ash being an idiot. Ash taking some abuse. Some character stuff and then some structure of Act Two. Just other possibilities for things that could happen. It’s ideas, jokes, things we’d like to see.”

He also talked about his return to the horror genre:

evildeadtrilogy Sam Raimi Wants Campbell Back for a Fourth Evil Dead

Sam Raimi is in the business of making franchises that stick. We all know that he and film star Tobey Maguire have signed on for a fourth Spiderman film, and now we may see the same revival for Raimi’s Evil Dead series. According to MTV, the director is planning on a fourth installment whether long time collaborator Bruce Campbell wants to star in it or not. Last year Campbell dispelled rumors regarding his involvement with the new Evil Dead by saying, “I think there should be an end to everything.” Too bad for him because Raimi disagrees.

Sam Raimi Discusses Spider-Man 4 and Evil Dead

davidhall sam raimi 09 3 16 Sam Raimi Discusses Spider Man 4 and Evil Dead

Sam Raimi is set to spin another thread in the already dense web of Spider-Man flicks.

The director announced last week that Spider-Man 4 will be released May 6, 2011, but shot down reports that Sony Pictures was working on the fifth installation of the series simultaneously. Raimi said that he and the production team “are in the earliest stages of working with the writer, trying to work out a story,” but still no details on the villains or basic plot points.

He might be pushing it with a fourth (and fifth!) Spider-Man film, but the director has a fail-safe: more Evil Dead.

Raimi already mentioned at last year’s Comic-Con that he would enjoy making another Evil Dead film, so IGN managed to snag him for an interview at SXSW for an update on prospects for the franchise:

horror 101 HORROR 101: HP Lovecraft

In the first Horror 101 post I listed ten films the average horror fan may not have seen but should. In this “lesson” I’ll discuss writer HP Lovecraft.

What does a horror writer from the 20′s and 30′s have to do with horror films today? In the case of Lovecraft, a lot. I have not written much about his life and works here, that’s what Wikipedia is for. He wrote about horrific creatures/gods/aliens which often were insane…. or worse.

His works, primarily short stories with some novellas, have inspired many films.  Some are direct adaptations such as “Re-Animator,”  “Die, Monster, Die!” and a couple of episodes of the 1970s television show, “Night Gallery.” An interesting low-budget Lovecraft adaptation recently released is “The Call of Cthulhu,” A modern movie, but shot as a silent film, it’s worth watching as an oddball entry. Check out a clip below…
