2011 Razzie Award Nominations: Twilight Eclipse Earns 9 Noms

It’s no secret that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences plan on revealing the nominees for the 2011 Academy Awards tomorrow morning, but awards season wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion of the Razzies! They acknowledge the worst that film has to offer and their list of nominees for 2010 has been released. Some of the biggest offenders of bad filmmaking come from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Last Airbender. Check out the rest of the nominees below…

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Headed Back to Theaters!

Summit Entertainment is pulling a 20th Century Fox and re-releasing their biggest cash cow in theaters. Their latest installment in the The Twilight Saga entitled Eclipse, earned $298.8 million domestically and $372.8 million internationally bringing its grand total to $672 million overall. Obviously that wasn’t enough for the studio because they’re breaking it out one last time for a very special occasion — Bella’s birthday.

You read that right, in celebration of Bella Swan’s birthday Summit will re-release Eclipse in theaters all over the country. They claim that this will allow “moviegoers to celebrate Bella’s birthday with their friends.” Do you smell that? We smell a blatant attempt to get beyond $300 million domestic. To our knowledge the film will only be released in 1,187 theaters in North America, therefore Summit has an obvious beef with the U.S. box office.

This is just the boost they need to fuel the upcoming December 4th DVD release of the film. The last time we checked, absence made the heart grow fonder. Bella’s big day falls on a Monday (September 13th) so how is that going to effect those kids who are in school and can’t hang out a school night? Who are we kidding? They’ll find a way to see it.

Man Dies at Twilight Eclipse Screening

We’ve got some sad news to report regarding weekend box office champ, The Twilight Saga Eclipse. The sequel has raked in over $175 million domestically and $275 million worldwide and counting. Unfortunately, one of the tickets bought to support the film belonged to a young man who met his demise during one of its many screenings. According to THR, watching the twitch-fest that is Kristen Stewart and the dry delivery of Taylor Lautner killed someone…literally.

The original report comes from the New Zealand based NZHerald, where they claim that a 23 year old was found slumped over in his chair after the lights went up following the movie. The paramedics were called, but he could not be resuscitated. The death occurred at the 6pm showing of Eclipse, where he appeared to have gone alone. His body was found at around 8.20pm, and since there weren’t any visible injuries they’re awaiting an autopsy report for more answers.

What a horrible way to go out! If you’re going to die during a summer movie in 2010, it should at least be Inception. That’s one to go out on! No disrespect to the man or his family. It’s just a crappy situation all around.

The 4th of July weekend is officially here and it’s already gone to the wolves…and vampires. The highly anticipated The Twilight Saga Eclipse opened in theaters on Wednesday to record breaking numbers. The third installment in the popular franchise has been described as the best film in the series and features a grief-stricken Victoria out for blood, Bella’s blood! There’s also the M. Night Shyamalan adaptation of the Nickelodeon series The Last Airbender about a young boy with the power to control the elements (water, air, fire, and earth).

On an indie note, director Taylor Hackford’s new film Love Ranch starring Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci is also hitting theaters and centers on a married couple who opens the first legal brothel in Nevada. Doesn’t that sound like an interesting way to spend the holiday?

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Earns 68.5 Million Opening Day

When it’s all said and done The Twilight Saga Eclipse will have a lot to show for itself in terms of its box office gross. The film already broke the record for having the highest midnight opening with 30 million dollars and now its earned another substantial amount in its first 24 hours. According to Coming Soon, Eclipse raked in $68.5 million, but still didn’t manage to beat its predecessor.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon earned $72.7 million in its first day, which means Eclipse falls short but is still impressive. If the estimate is accurate, the sequel will hold on to the number 2 spot for the highest single day gross knocking 2008′s The Dark Knight down to 3 with its $67.2 million. It does however hold the number one spot for the biggest Wednesday opening, which was previously held by Transformers Revenge of The Fallen ($62 million).

The actual production of Eclipse cost Summit Entertainment $68 million and they’ve easily earned that back. Now they have to retrieve the marketing costs, and eventually a profit after that. Something tells us that the competition this week doesn’t stand a chance against these vampires, werewolves, and their Twihard fanbase.

Interview: Dakota Fanning, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bad Vamps, The Cullen Family

Dakota, you are so very evil in this. What is it like? You were a fan of the books coming into this. And for Bryce, how is it coming into this world for just one time?

Dakota Fanning: This is the first time I’ve gotten to play the same character in a different film. It was really great. I love playing this character, it’s a fun character to get to play and being a part of all that is Twilight is such an honor and still kind of surreal for me. I feel so lucky to be a part of it.

What do you like about her?

Dakota Fanning: She’s obviously not the nicest person but it’s kind of fascinating to be able to play someone that takes pleasure in hurting people, that’s kind of a weird thing to get to do and obviously something I’ve never done before.

Bryce, your fight scene with Rob, he said you were being careful with him and he was a bit nervous about pushing you around. How did you put that aside and go for it?

Bryce Dallas Howard: There was a lot of fight training that happened to prepare for it. Actors are always nervous about not only hurting each other but maybe perhaps hitting each other’s face and ending one’s career. So there was a lot of preparation that made us feel more comfortable, certainly. I just knew that if I rustled his hair perhaps millions of young women would want to kill me so I was quite cautious for that reason. It was fun. There’s a point at which you’re wrestling for six consecutive hours that it just becomes absurd. You just kind of, you can’t help yourself but laugh. It ultimately was great, yeah it was a really good job.

When you entered into the Twilight franchise do your family and friends who are big Twilight fans grill you about what happened on set, what’s so and so like, are these two together? Do you have to figure out what you can tell people close to you?

Bryce Dallas Howard: I want to know what your experience is like because you’re in high school

Dakota Fanning: You get the normal questions but I think that people that are close to me especially in school are kind of used to it by now so it’s not such a big deal. They kind of forget that I’m even in the movies. So I haven’t really had to deal with a lot of that. No.

Bryce Dallas Howard: Since I was sort of the resident Twi-hard in my group, kind of what I was talking about before, I was ridiculed for it. And now it’s like, ‘Ha!’ Now they fully need to embrace it and support it.

Xavier Samuel: My mother has made it her personal mission to monitor all the information about me on the Internet.

Bryce Dallas Howard: She really has

Xavier Samuel: But I’ve had a few strange requests, like, if you could bring back a plastic cup that Rob sipped on or maybe if you could sneak up to him quickly and take a lock of his hair…but no, other than those odd requests

Xavier, you’re new to the franchise, who was the most welcoming and how were you welcomed? Was there a hazing ritual?

Xavier Samuel: I guess playing a bad guy and kind of an outsider and a foreigner in an already established family you’re a bit intimidated but I’m so grateful to be accepted so warmly into the whole family. Everyone’s extremely down to earth. And also Bryce, who I’ve become very good friends with, we kind of locked eyes at the airport and you go ‘OK, there’s someone here that, you know…” but no stunts, no initiation or anything like that. Just a lot of fun and great to hang out with those guys.

Most challenging scene you had to do

Dakota Fanning: My one scene. Because I am in such a small part of the film, it kind of adds to, pressure is the wrong word but the only word I can think of right now, just to get that one part right and do the best that you can. In that little moment that you’re in the film, make it the best it can be and the scariest it can be and the coolest it can be.

Bryce Dallas Howard: The most challenging part, again pressure…I think it is the right word because there’s so much build up to the moment and for the end, there’s so much training that went into the choreography of this final battle sequence that I didn’t want to mess it up and I certainly didn’t want to punch Robert Pattinson in the face.

Xavier Samuel: I know it has so many devoted fans and with that comes a great deal of responsibility of really delivering your very best. So that’s the kind of challenging thing, to always be on your A-game. But also it’s kind of hard to act with a piece of fur on the end of a stick. All that green screen stuff was kind of interesting. You have to create that world in your head as opposed to actually having it there. And then being bounced around on wires like a puppet.

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse: Which Film Had the Best Trailer?

Here we are, Twitards. I noticed in the last couple of days that it’s been getting a lot more humid, then I realized that the new Twilight movie, Eclipse, is coming out this week. Makes sense. Hopefully there will be less moisture in the air after the weekend passes. What? I’m just talking about the weather. Most of you who want to see the movie are probably already in line, or have been for the past year or so. As for the rest of us, Summit is still trying to suck those who don’t give two shi(p)s about the movie into theaters on opening weekend. They release these things called “trailers” that give us a “preview” of what we would see if we were to buy tickets to their piece of art.

Eclipse marks the third time that the Twilight series will grace intelligent movie lovers with its presence. Since movies release multiple trailers, we chose to use the last and final trailer that is released before the movie comes out. Let’s take a look at which of the three had the best trailer, shall we?

1. Twilight

Since the only people who knew about Twilight at the time were insecure teenage girls and horny housewives discovering their sexuality, not many people had heard of Twilight. Knowing this, the filmmakers had to make a trailer to try and appeal to mass audiences of insecure women. What about the guys? They’re the ones who are getting dragged to go see it. So f*** ‘em.

The trailer starts with the dramatic moment in the first film where Edward uses his super strength to save Bella from an out of control van. Bella then attempts to guess what Edward is by dropping references to Superman and Spiderman.

Nice try with the geek talk, filmmakers. We’re then given a taste of their forbidden romance that is to come when we see them kiss and give each other some sexy looks. I think, at this point, that they realized they had to have some sort of storyline and not just sexual tension. Let’s throw in bad vampires who want to eat Bella! Yeah, that’s it! And by throwing in pretty much all of the action from the movie in the last 20 seconds, we can get dudes excited about the movie!

They did this in order to leave out what the movie is really about = Bella wanting to bang Edward and something else about her emotions that I didn’t really pay attention to. This trailer was made to trick those of us who knew nothing about Twilight that it was a vampire flick. And for that I say screw you, Summit.

Rating: 3/10 I gave it three points for being tricky. It originally got ten points off for making me pay to see the movie.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? Going to go with better than the movie here due to it being an hour and seventeen minutes shorter.

2. New Moon

Alright, cat’s outta the bag. At the point everyone knows what Twilight and what it’s about. No point in them making deceiving trailers to lure more people in. They have their audience and now it’s time to make sure they stick around for more. Might as well give them what they want, right? Ef yeah, it is!

After starting off ”dark” and eerie with snippets of the Volturi and neck snapping, they get into Bella’s lip biting, self-pitying depression, and constipated acting. Edward has left her for her own good, but not for ours. Now we are stuck with Bella to see her moan and go into the fetal position as she sees tries to forget Ed- ohmigod is that Jacob without a shirt?!?! Oh yes, bring out the shirtless boys! That’ll get them into seats!

We get about six moments with our shirtless leads in this trailer. If I were a Twitard, that would be equal to six orgasms. But I’m not, so it was six shots of vodka to try and forget what I just watched. Then they try and end it with some more action to try and remind the guys that it won’t be all bad. Don’t try and sandwich a bunch of constipated acting and talk about emotions with a couple of action sequences. You’re not tricking me again!

Rating: 4/10 I respect you for being honest this time around as far as what you’re selling, but now it makes me not respect you for making that kind of movie to begin with.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? Better, of course. Sitting through this movie was even more painful than the first. Watching Kristen Stewart moan and complain for two hours is too much. It was hard enough to watch in the trailer.

3. Eclipse

It’s been two movies, but you guys still have more of a story to tell? I (painfully) read the books and, yes, it can all be fit into about the size of a comic book. Most of it is Bella talking about how hard Edward’s body is, how beautiful his eyes are, his cold touch, and much more. I believe I just made all of the women in my apartment complex feel a shiver down their spine by writing that. Oh yes, Twilight is that powerful. Which is why we have our third and most recent trailer:

Oh boy. Let the love triangle begin! Even though the trailer starts off with some sexual tension, it goes right into what seems to be the main focus of this movie: vampires and werewolves battling to the death! A lot of creepy shots and action sequences. Instead of sandwiching in the emotional stuff with action, they decided to have nothing but action!

Now, given that I haven’t seen this one yet (Yes, I am going to. When you have a girlfriend, it’s kind of obligatory), but watching that trailer makes me feel a bit less dreadful about seeing it. But I do know it is another trick of theirs to make us guys feel like it’s going to be okay. It’s not. It will never be okay. We’re going to get in there and watch them attempt to act as Bella looks constipated and bites her lower lip for 90 minutes.

Rating: 5/10 For a semi-cool action packed trailer. Five points were docked for my inevitable letdown… and because it’s Twilight.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? I (surprisingly) have not seen this one yet. My girlfriend probably isn’t taking me this time around due to me laughing my way through the last two. But I know I can safely say this trailer is better than the movie. If you disagree with me then you must like Twilight.

The Winner: Eclipse

Because it had the one with the least amount of dialogue and most action. I’m a guy, what’d you expect? But what about you?

Twilight Eclipse: Movie Review

Twilight is back with Eclipse! Breaking box office records, making young girls wait in line at midnight and scream at a pitch that only wolves can hear. I”m not a Twi-Hard, this is not my favorite genre, BUT I will say that out of all the Twilight films this one is the best. It has more action, more tension, better character development, and unlike the previous films a story to follow. That being said, it’s still a Twilight film.

Lets take a look at some of the good and bad below…

Plot:

Once again, Bella Swan is caught between her addiction to vampire, Edward and her friendship with werewolf, Jacob. Meanwhile the Voultri are forcing Edward to “turn” Bella, Edward is trying to convince Bella to marry him, and Bella is just trying to get some from Edward. There’s now a vampire “war” going on, in which the werewolves and the vampires have to form a truce to overcome. And we start and end the film reading poetry in a field full of poppies. How sweet.

The Bad:

Same Old: Once again, Kristen Stewart is left stressing out and looking worried. Robert Pattison constantly looks like someone is pulling out his fingernails. Lets get something new for the actors to work on! At least in this film Bella seems to have a mind of her own even if she is being completely stupid.
Should Not Be Seen in IMAX: Despite the fact they’re trying to make this film a big spectacle and you would think with all the money/equipment they have it would be, the film does not hold up on an IMAX screen. All the flaws in the production are magnified and during the slower more “romantic scenes’ it’s hard to see past the bad make-up and engage in the story.
Production Errors: Aside from a few sets which left me feeling like I was watching a soap opera and a lack of wide shots, there are a number of scenes with vampires appearing in the light but not sparkling! (I never thought I would be saying this but) this film has a serious lake of sparkling. Stick to the rules you set for yourself! They needed to either re-light some of the scenes, explain something to us or add some damn sparkles!
The Make-Up: Come on guys, this is #3! Get it together! The contacts still look fake, I could see make up on Edwards arm and missing from his ears in extreme close-ups. These problems should not still be happening with the money going into these films. This may be a result of…
The Turn Around: The speed they’re turning these babies around makes them be more about quantity than quality. There’s no time for the little things and unfortunately all the little things really begin to add up in this film.

But I’m guessing that won’t matter for most of you because the good outweighs the bad…

The Good:

Romance: Undeniably hotter than before. This is what the fans want and David Slade delivers. Lots of making out, sexual tension and if the three leads don’t have a Ménage à trois by the end of the saga I’d be damned surprised!
Taylor Lautner: Once again, he keeps evolving from one film to the next and gives us something new to discover. In this film he’s stepped out as a big buff dude, with the cocky attitude to match.
Action: It’s faster, more intense, there’s more story behind it and it’s far for graphic than before. I actually forgot what film I was in for about 10 minutes and got to enjoy some good fight scenes.
The Pure Ridiculousness: With lines like “admit it I’m hotter than you” how can you not point and laugh?! In some of the earlier films the dialogue was just bad, but now it’s so bad it’s good! Or at least entertaining…
Tone: The film is a touch darker while still being targeted towards teenage girls. Nicely done.

Overall:

If you’re a fan of the first two films, this one is definitely a step up and will in no way disappoint. For the rest of you there isn’t anything new or mind-blowing to make it worth seeing for the first time.

Twilight Eclipse: Biggest Midnight Opening of All Time!

The Twihards were in full force last night when they camped out to see the first official screenings of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The third installment in Summit Entertainment’s vampire franchise has received slightly better reviews than its predecessors and has been at the center of a major marketing campaign. Eclipse has a new director (David Slade), a new Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard), and a lot more action, all of which have seemed to help its opening. Check out the numbers…

According to Variety, Eclipse broke the record for the highest grossing midnight showing of all-time earning $30 million! This passes New Moon, which opened last fall with $26.3 million for its late night screenings. If you thought that was insane they also broke records for IMAX earning over $1 million in 192 venues beating out Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’s $959,000.

Eclipse is the widest opening film with 4,416 locations (with more on the way), which surpasses Iron Man 2′s 4,380. The movie is expected to dominate the Fourth of July weekend and it has some people wondering if it will be able to beat Spider-Man 2′s 6 day holiday gross of $180 million.

If this movie can earn $30 million in one night, the weekend, let alone the extended weekend could be filled with record breaking numbers. Eclipse will open in other international territories starting on July 1st and will launch in 42 overseas markets.

The Twilight Saga Eclipse is officially in theaters and if you’re a diehard fan you probably attended one of the millions of midnight screenings that took place early this morning. To cap off such a hormone driven event we’ve chosen the winner of our Eclipse Soundtrack and Tote Bag Giveaway. Some of the artists featured on the album include Metro, Muse, The Black Keys, and composer Howard Shore.
