It’s unusual for one event to make the whole world blink at the same time, but in Ken Kwapis‘ latest that’s exactly what happens. Big Miracle, starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski, tells the fascinating true story of three grey whales who captured the world’s attention when it was discovered that they were trapped in ice near Point Barrow, Alaska. It’s hard to go wrong with a story about whales, just like it’s hard not to smile at a YouTube video of a kitten. But this story is about more than cute whales, it’s about real people and real lives. Let’s review Big Miracle, but beware, some of these stories will shock you.

After her directorial debut with Whip It in 2009, it was hard to tell if Drew Barrymore would continue to work behind the camera, or if the film was just a one-off. Some actors merely dabble. But Barrymore is returning to the director’s chair for How to Be Single, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is based on the book by Liz Tuccillo of the same name that follows an ensemble of players who go through relationship drama over the course of ten years. This looks to be a go project as the script is ready, which was written by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn.

GDdrew Going The Distance: Movie Review

Those who’ve fallen victim to the L.A. media craze should certainly have a field day with this one. Hollywood’s favorite on again/ off again couple, Justin Long and Drew Barrymore team up for Fall’s most anticipated rom-com, Going The Distance. The Warner Bros. release is directed by Nanette Burstein and also stars Christina Applegate, Charlie Day, Ron Livingston, Jason Sudeikis, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

going the distance long barrymore 8 24 10 Interview: Drew Barrymore and Justin Long Talk Going the Distance

This week in theaters Drew Barrymore and Justin Long star in a modern day romantic comedy (which seems almost biographical) about a couple torn apart by dueling coasts in Going the Distance. The couple managed to somehow pull off a relationship on and off screen despite all the nasty rumors circling around them. Not too long ago we got a chance to sit down with both of them at a press conference and talk a little bit about making the film.

Barrymore seems so at ease in front of a group of people and Long was cracking a number of jokes which kept it entertaining. They swapped a number of cute comments to one another, calling the other person a good kisser and what not. It, like the movie, was somehow managed to avoid being cheesy and was actually rather charming.

Trailer: Going to Distance – The Longing Text Message

going the distance5 21 10 Trailer: Going to Distance The Longing Text Message

Damn! And here I thought this film had promise. I really hope that this is just a bad trailer and not a real representation of the film that was supposed to be a realistic romantic comedy. Going the Distance stars the on-again-off-again-real-life couple Drew Barrymore and Justin Long and is by first time feature film director Nanette Burstein and was written by first time/Black List writer Geoff LaTulippe.

They do have quite a promising supporting cast, aside from our two lead characters the film co-stars Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis, Ron Livingston, Kelli Garner (who was so adorable in Lars and a Real Girl) and my favorite “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s,” Charlie Day.

the wizard of oz Drew Barrymore to Direct Wizard of Oz Sequel?

L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz has been adapted so many time we’ve lost count. There have been several remakes, prequels, and sequels all tackling the story of Dorothy, her misfit crew, and those sparkling ruby slippers. According to Pajiba, Drew Barrymore will direct another installment entitled, Surrender Dorothy which she was originally attached to star. Oh how the tables have turned.

whipitpic Whip It: Movie Review

Are you ready for some real girl power!?! Based off all those hard-ass, sexy chicks out there who dress in fish-nets, give themselves bad-ass names like “Babe Ruthless” and beat each other up, comes Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It! If you’re one of those girls out there who never could relate to the Sex in the City gang because instead of shoe shopping you’d rather be playing capture the flag, hiking, or wrestling the boys, than this is the film for you. Packed with estrogen, it’s the most bad-ass chick-flick you’ll see all year.
