After months of positive buzz, the general public finally gets their first peek at The Tempest! The official trailer has debuted on Apple in glorious HD and it does not disappoint. This movie looks like everything we wanted it to be and more. Directed by Julie Taymor, it tackles the Shakespearean play of the same name but adds a twist — a female twist. Check out the trailer…

You’re probably wondering what makes this Shakespearean based film any different from all the other interpretations we’ve seen. Well, for one the main character has been turned from a man to a woman, and is played by the super-talented Helen Mirren. Check out her and the rest of the cast in the full sized poster below…

As I write this post I’m fueled by anger and disappointment. I don’t know if some of you remember this or not, but about two years ago (give or take) it was announced that there would be an adaptation of the comic strip, Mandrake. Created by Lee Falk, Mandrake is about crime fighting magician who uses illusions and hypnosis to defeat his enemies. According to Superherohype, actors Hayden Christenson and Djimon Hounsou have signed on to star in the live action film, and I have no idea why.

Is it just me, or does it look like these two are about to get it on in the interview? There was definitely something going on that I didn’t know about.
The interview started out with me being announced as someone from French television and Djimon trying to speak to me in French. I don’t speak French. And I think for some reason he was offended by that. I mean, I never said I spoke French! Give a girl a break!

Coming in February 2009, is Paul McGuigan’s new film Push, an action packed thriller about people with secret powers hiding from the government. The trailer kind of looks like an expensive two hour “Heroes” episode to me at this point. The film stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning (in a mini skirt and hooker boats, which should NOT be happening, especially since she still looks about 11 year-old), Camilla Belle, and Djimon Hounsou.
Official synopsis: Push burrows deep into the deadly world of psychic espionage where artificially enhanced paranormal operatives have the ability to move objects with their minds, see the future, create new realities and kill without ever touching their victims. Against this setting, a young man and a teenage girl take on a clandestine agency in a race against time that will determine the future of civilization.
