In the 1980s, action flicks ruled Hollywood. Theaters were overrun with iconic bad-asses like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and the one and only Chuck “Frakkin’” Norris! It’s time to grab your headband and machine gun, because we’re counting down the top 10 macho movies of that decadent decade.
Christmas. It’s a time in which families huddle together around the warm, bustling glow of the fireplace, with the mantle framed with rows of stockings the TV set as we nod off from half a gallon of eggnog and some turkey. And, in keeping with that tradition, we here at ScreenCrave have cobbled together a list of our favorite unusual Christmas films—not A Christmas Story or It’s a Wonderful Life or any other of the more obvious picks; rather, it’s our favorite oddball X-mas movies, the films that somehow catch our attention every single year, even if they aren’t exactly the most appropriate holiday fare.
Oh, for the love of… Sigh. Because Die Harder, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard weren’t stupid enough titles for unnecessary sequels to a great film (and, let’s face it, Die Hard itself is kind of a goofy title, too), it was announced today by Fox CEO Tom Rothman that Die Hard 5 will be entitled A Good Day to Die Hard. Seriously. A… Good… Day… to… Die… Hard. A group of grown men and women, adults, came up with and approved of that title for a film. Really.
Bruce Willis will be returning as John McClane in Die Hard 5, and John Moore is now in final negotiations to helm the fourth sequel, according to Deadline Hollywood. Such usually means it’s a done deal. Fox wants to get going on this as Willis as also on board a sequel to his recent minor hit Red. What the actual title of the film will be is unknown, Deadline says it’s shooting in Russia. The reason for this sequel is that Live Free or Die Hard made over $38o Million worldwide, and a franchise is a franchise.
Earlier today we learned that Bruce Willis was actively interviewing potential candidates to direct the upcoming sequel Die Hard 5. At the time it seemed as if Daniel Espinosa would be the lucky man chosen for the job, but according to Deadline he’s not! The site claims that 20th Century Fox has hired emerging helmer Noam Murro to direct the film.
Bruce Willis isn’t ready for John McClane to die — not yet! The actor is currently on the lookout for a director to helm the next installment of the long running Die Hard franchise. The sequel is being called Die Hard 5 at the moment, and according to Vulture he’s actively interviewing behind the scenes talent.
Bullets, blood, Bruce Willis. It doesn’t take a lot to make a great action movie, right? Critics have taught us that such phrases as “the director’s unique vision” need only be applied to awards-worthy drama, not Die Hard. Action films are cinematic junk food; no one cares who the chef is.
Well, we respectfully disagree. The action films which stand the test of time are able to do so precisely because the director in charge has a storytelling style that resonates with audiences.
