After a long and strenuous battle with prostate cancer, Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper passed away Saturday morning at the age of 74. The actor was known for his unconventional roles and independent spirit that was showcased through his love of film, art, and photography.

According to People, he died at 9 am with his family and close friends at his side in his Los Angeles home. Hopper had a larger than life career but he came from humble beginnings in Dodge City, Kansas. He landed his first major film role at the tender age of 19 and found himself acting opposite another rising star, James Dean.

Hopper would go on to work with Dean in his final film Giant, which also starred Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. After success in the fifties and sixties he sparked a new independent film movement with the production of his cult classic Easy Rider, which featured him as its star and director alongside Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.

Veteran actor Dennis Hopper has been in seclusion for the past few months dealing with his declining health. He’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which is currently in the advance stages, yet according to a report from ABC News he can no longer undergo treatment for it.

According to the site, Hopper is too ill to continue on with any type of chemotherapy, which is the traditional method doctors use to combat cancerous cells. The actor’s attorney Joe Mannis recently submitted several legal documents to the court on Hopper’s behalf stating that he wouldn’t be able to attend a deposition scheduled to take place Thursday. He is currently in the midst of divorcing his wife, but unable to go through with the legal proceedings due to his health.

Hopper has been described as “extremely weak” and “unable to talk for more than a few minutes at a time because he’s not able to concentrate and tires quickly. In the midst of his health crisis it’s been recently announced that a Walk of Fame ceremony will be held in his honor tomorrow at 6712 on Hollywood Blvd (Hollywood, CA)  starting at 11:30am.

Hopper’s career spans over 50 years and includes memorable performances in film such as Easy Rider, Hoosiers, Speed and Apocalypse Now. In his earlier years he got to work opposite James Dean in not one, but two films, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant. Does it piss anyone else off that he is just NOW getting a star on the Walk of Fame? Yet, Britney Spears and Ryan Seacrest both have had theirs for years? Where are your priorities Hollywood?

Legendary actor Dennis Hopper has been having a terrible few weeks. We previously reported on the actor when he was rushed to the hospital earlier this month suffering from what his publicist described as “flu-like” symptoms, and now more disturbing news has been released. According to the Huffington Post, Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The 73 year old has been formally diagnosed with the terminal disease, and is seeking treatment within a “special program” at the University of Southern California. Hopper is not only an actor but he’s also an artist, and due to his current situation he’s been forced to cancel his upcoming art exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne. The presentation is entitled “Dennis Hopper and the New Hollywood,” and celebrates “the work and life of an extraordinary filmmaker, artist and key figure in the evolution of Americas cultural scene from the 1950s to today.”

When asked about the actor’s prognosis, Sam Maydew from the University of Southern California stated, “We’re hoping for the best.” After hearing this news, we can only hope that the actor fights with everything he has to beat this ugly disease. Hopper is a two-time Oscar nominee who’s been in the entertainment industry for well over 50 years. He’s influenced many actors who came onto the scene after the counter culture revolution of the sixties, and ushered in an edgier form of filmmaking with his classic, Easy Rider.

Lets all keep Dennis in our prayers, because he truly is a one of a kind talent who deserves to overcome this obstacle.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Dennis Hopper was rushed to a New York Hospital this morning while promoting the new season of his TV series, Crash. According to Entertainment Tonight the legendary actor was transported to the hospital’s emergency room via ambulance for what was described as an undisclosed illness.

The story is still developing, but at the moment the latest update comes from Hopper’s publicist Sheila Feren. She states that the actor was rushed to the hospital “after developing flu-like symptoms.” ET said the actor was seen “wearing an oxygen mask with numerous tubes visible” upon his arrival at the hospital.

The short film commercial is called Pashmy Dream. The “story” goes that Gwyneth Paltrow, who is playing herself, goes to meet up with a sexy journalist when she is attacked by the paparazzi and leaves her purse behind. I guess I should say leaves her Tod’s Pashmy bag behind. I mean hell, I’m guessing they paid enough for the ad I guess I should mention it. At least I hope they did.

Hopper says of the commercial: “Cinderella has her shoe. Gwyneth has her Tod’s Pashmy bag.”
