It’s time for the little guy to stand up for what’s right! This week in theaters Woody Harrelson appears on the big screen as Defendor, a guy willing to risk his own life, takeshis marbles and lime juice to the streets and attempt to defend the city from evil in the ultimate battles of Defendor vs. Captain Industry. Much like the lead character, this film has a lot of heart and isn’t afraid to take risks.

Peter Stebbings‘ newest creation, Defendor, starring Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings has a new trailer for your viewing pleasure. As we’ve seen before, the fun part of this film is that the superhero film about a man who has no super powers and unlike Batman, no money to afford any cool gadgets, he has to reply on lime juice and marbles. The film centers around three characters: an everyday guy, Arthur Poppington, who comes to believe he’s a superhero, his psychiatrist, and the teenager prostitute he befriends.
In a world without hope, Poppington changes into a vigilante super-hero of his own making, “Defendor” in order to save the day. The only problem is that the Defendor only has courage to work with while trying to protect the city’s innocents and he might be insane. Sounds like the perfect role for Harrelson! The one good thing that always comes out of film festivals is major distribution from a studio. With the Toronto International Film Festival being one of the biggest events of the year it’s no surprise that thanks to its exposure an independent dramedy got picked up. According to Variety, Sony Pictures has swooped in and bought the rights to the Peter Stebbings film, Defendor.

When I saw these photos I literally laughed out loud. Woody Harrelson stars as the title character in the upcoming film, Defendor. The new indie film Defendor, gets a cone hell of cast. Up and coming, Kat Dennings (Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, Housebunny) has signed on to play the role of Kat, along with Woody Harrelson (No Country for Old Men, The People Vs. Larry Flynt) and Sandra Oh (Sideways, Grey’s Anatomy). Harrelson will be playing Arthur, a regular man who believes he has a secret identity as the superhero Defendor. Sandra Oh plays his psychiatrist and Kat Dennings plays a teenager living on the streets whom Arthur befriends.
The picture is being produced by Darius Films’ principal Nicholas Tabarrok (Coopers Camera, Weirdsville, The Life and the Hard Times of Guy Terrifco), who was named one of Variety’s Top Producers to Watch. Defendor is written and will be directed by Peter Stebbings in his feature film directing debut. Principal photography begins in November in Toronto. What does Tabarrok think about the new cast?
