Hey, remember that horrible—just horrible—Daredevil film adaptation that was released a few years ago with Ben Affleck? No? Well, I promise you, it existed (though you may have just sealed your eyes shut to miss its face-melting horrors, Radars of the Lost Ark-style; I was not so lucky). Well guess what? The sequel that no one was clamoring for is now being written! Huzzah!
A couple weeks ago David O. Russell decided not to direct the highly anticipated adaptation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which left the job open for some of Hollywood’s most eager filmmakers. According to a report from The Wrap, some heavy hitters have made the directing shortlist including Oscar winner Jonathan Demme and Let Me In helmer Matt Reeves. Earlier this week we reported that Hugh Jackman had dropped out of the upcoming film Avon Man (which he’ll also produce) to begin training for Wolverine 2. The film should begin production pretty soon but it still doesn’t have a director. The first installment of the X-Men Origins series was directed Gavin Hood, but he won’t be returning for the sequel. Instead, Fox has their eye on a new guy, David Slade.
It looks like we’re going to get another big screen adaptation of The Shadow in our lifetime thanks to the people over at 20th Century Fox. According to Latino Review, the studio has picked up the rights to Sam Raimi’s version of the vintage character that Sony was previously rumored to produce, but after the Spider-Man debacle are we really surprised they didn’t follow through?
The director of The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse, David Slade, is inserting his foot into his mouth at this very moment. Apparently when Twilight was released last year, David Slade made a comment, via Twitter, about his level of interest in the film. Slade said, “Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.” I take it he didn’t really want to see it. Granted the hype surrounding the movie was completely out of control, and that can definitely turn some people off. BUT when you are later hired as the director of the sequel, this comment may come back and bite you in the ass, and it did.
