I woke up early to catch a 9:00am screening of Goats at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It’s hard to enjoy just about any film at that hour of the morning, get caught up in a not-so-fast-moving drama, or let alone laugh out loud at a odd concept, but somehow Goats managed it all and had me leaving the theater ready for more.

Existing within a society so lost in the throes of consumerism, 21st century America falls susceptible to the demons of materialism almost unconsciously. Director Derrick Borte‘s latest film, The Joneses, starring Demi Moore, David Duchovny, Amber Heard, and Lauren Hutton, digs into the impacts our current economic climate has had on society. The film chronicles a the “Jones Family,” the employees of a stealth marketing organization, and how their top of the line goods manipulate the upscale community they’ve been assigned to “work” with.

Meet The Joneses. They’re selling their sexy, successful image to everyone just by appearing… well sexy and successful. At first glance, The Joneses may appear to be a rather crazy concept — after all, it’s hard to believe that we are all so susceptible to product placement — but thanks to writer, director and producer Derrick Borte who executes the film in a rather realistic manner, the film makes a number of relevant and important comments on society while taking you for a fun ride.

A while back, there was a story stating that everyone’s favorite pair of extraterrestrial detectives, Mulder and Skully would be returning to the big screen for a third X-Files movie. The sequel to the original blockbuster film entitled, I Want to Believe didn’t fair that well at the box office, which made chances of a follow up seem slim. With one commercial failure and one success, fans want to know if a third film could balance it out.

Didn’t the second X-Files movie tank at the box office? Let’s be honest, before you read this headline did you even remember that there was a second X-Files movie? Last year Fox released The X-Files: I Want to Believe, which turned out to be a huge box office disappointment. It reunited the original series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, but even that nostalgic bit wasn’t enough to carry the film.
