Hey, remember that horrible—just horrible—Daredevil film adaptation that was released a few years ago with Ben Affleck? No? Well, I promise you, it existed (though you may have just sealed your eyes shut to miss its face-melting horrors, Radars of the Lost Ark-style; I was not so lucky). Well guess what? The sequel that no one was clamoring for is now being written! Huzzah!
When Daredevil opened in February of 2003, it had been fending off months of bad buzz ranging from the choice of Ben Affleck, to middling reviews to picking a director who had never helmed a big budget action comedy based on a semi known comic book property before.
Sound like the case of The Green Hornet? Just like The Green Hornet, Daredevil was able to fight back against bad buzz, open to a solid number one opening , go on to gross nearly $200M worldwide and even spawn a spin off based on Jennifer Garner’s character, Elektra.
Twentieth Century Fox has decided to tighten its grip on Marvel’s Daredevil property by hiring a writer to pen the reboot. Ever since Disney bought the comic giant, all of the properties currently with other studios are fair game if they don’t make use of them, hence the Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider reboots and sequels.
