Ewan McGregor—despite having stared in three of the most horrendous sequel/ prequels of all time (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith)—is taking a stand against “poor sequels,” stating that there are too many bad or unnecessary follow-ups to great films.

Well, yeah.

DimeWars has it that McGregor has been musing on sequels of late because of rumors that the 1996 Danny Boyle film Trainspotting, in which he indelibly portrayed Renton, a heroin addict, may be getting its own sequel soon.

Trainspotting was based on a novel by Irvine Welsh, who wrote a follow-up that takes place 10 years later, entitled Porno. And, as, the Trainspotting fanbase (and cast, apparently) clamor for a return to that world, McGregor seems to be the lone holdout from the first film:

“It’s still the main thing people ask me about when they come up to me in the street… It’s not something that I would completely dismiss off-hand until I’ve seen a script… I don’t like being the guy that’s making it not happen, especially when all the other guys want to make it… But I wouldn’t want to do a sequel to Trainspotting if it was just for the sake of it and, if I’m honest about it, I wasn’t that blown away by the book.”

So there you have it, Trainspotting fans—you may have to settle for just one great film and book, rather than one great film and one so-so sequel.

What do you think of McGregor’s comments?

This week in theaters, recent Academy Award winning Director Danny Boyle is back with another ground-breaking, rock-tumbling film 127 Hours led by the charismatic and easy to watch (other than when he’s bleeding all over himself) James Franco. The film tells the real life story of Aron Ralston, a man who was trapped in a cave for (you guessed it) 127 hours. Though the film has its moments of being a thrill ride it’s also an amazing character study of what exactly drives Man to do they things they do.

Check out the full review and find out why you should see the film below…

Players:

Director: Danny Boyle

Writers: Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy (screenplay), based on the book “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” by Aron Ralston

Actors: James Franco, Kate Mara, Amber Tamblyn

Original Music by: A.R. Rahman

Cinematography by: Enrique Chediak and Anthony Dod Mantle

The Plot:

Mountain climber Aron Ralston becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and is forced to cut off his own arm in order to try and survive.

The Good:

James Franco: This is primarily a film with 90 minutes of Franco’s face on the big screen with almost no other actors to help him out, which a lot of pressure for an actor but one that he handled well. Not only was he incredibly charming and endearing, but he was able to captivate the audience and keep them interested in his journey from start to end. Nicely done!

The Grotesque Arm Scene: I don’t always like graphic scenes, but the gore in this film was accurate, necessary and well built up to. Some people are walking away from this film only talking about this ONE scene, but the fact is they did a great job of showing that the scene was just a portion of the journey he wen through and that it was more than just a violent act but the result of many things adding up to one — in an odd way — right of passage. This was a life-changing experience and one that Aron is not ashamed from but admits himself that it helped him grow and learn the beauty of life in the hardest way possible.

The Self-Made Video: Watching the videos that Franco’s character made — which were made to mimic the real life videos that Aron Ralston actually made — was probably the highlight of the film. Not only were they able to bring in some much needed humor to lighten the mood at times, but they showed you that it was Aron’s amazing positive spirit that helped him get through the ordeal. He never gave up and continued to fight, rationalize and even joked about his situation until the bitter end. When you finally see him breaking, even when he’s trying not to, it really shows the heart of the character and the reality of the situation he was in.

The In-between:

Adaptation: This is a hard story to move from reality, to a book and then to a big screen mainly because most the story mainly takes place entirely in the characters head. For the most part it’s about the character reflecting on his own life and dealing with emotional, mental and physical exhaustion of his ordeal. Though these are all very powerful things they’re hard to visually portray when you literally have one actor stuck in a cave.

Less Is More: With the above being said, they did come up with some very interesting ways of visually representing what he was going through, but sometimes I felt like they almost brought too much to him and didn’t focus on what was the most important part of the film — a guy who’s trapped with (almost) no way out and no one to help him. I think less would have been more in this cause and some more time alone with him in the cave could have helped. BUT that being said, without bringing in all the things that they did, they would have had a hard time selling that to audiences so I understand and respect the choices made. Sadly it did make me feel like the additions made this just a good and when it was quite close to being a great one. (I did feel like Buried did a better job by taking the risk of having ONLY Ryan Reynolds on screen and still making the film feel like a film).

The Bad:

I got nothing.

Overall:

This is an interesting film, unlike anything else in theaters, an amazing story, it’s a good adaptation that will have you cringing, crying and even laughing along with Franco and his pet rock. It’s worth the price of a ticket just make sure you don’t go in thirsty ort have dinner plans after!

Rating: 7.5/10

127 Hours in theaters November 5th!

This week in theaters Danny Boyle‘s new adventure-drama 127 Hours, the story about Aron Ralston, the climber who was literally stuck between a rock and a hard place and had to to tear himself out hits theaters. The story takes place almost entirely in one location with James Franco leading us through the journey. Both Boyle and Franco sat down to talk about making this story both as real and meaningful as possible.

Find out how they accomplished that a whole lot more below…

The Humor within the Drama:

It’s either feces or urine with you!

Danny Boyle: Toilet humor. British films, you look at them, they’re all full of toilet scenes. Everybody else in the world is fine about toilets. It’s like no big thing. But British movies, every movie you see has got a scene in a toilet, I guarantee it. I don’t know why but there’s always scenes in toilets, always. Toilet humor, you’ve got to have humor. He manages to generate quite a lot of humor about it, kind of gentle humor. He says like, “No number twos which will disappoint my insect friends because they’ll have to wait.” Then he says the other great line when he drinks his urine, “Well, it’s not slurpee” or something like that. It’s very funny and that kind of thing is crucial in these circumstances, in hell really to have that spark of humor shows you life is still pulsing alive.

What does it say about me, I wondered about going to the bathroom, not whether he could sleep?

James Franco: Well, I think yeah, in a lot of ways it is necessary to address those kind of things because people are curious, but if you do it with humor it makes it a little more palatable.

Did you improvise that or was it in the script?

JF: Well, I think the slurpee line was in the script but there were things I added.

DB: We’re currently suing and counter-suing each other in copyright issues. No, not really. I just watched The Social Network.

JF: I think it was my line, I said, “It tastes like a bag of piss” so if you like that line…

DB: Yeah, that was very funny. Some people say – -

JF: Maybe you can’t hear that line.

DB: No, you can. Aron said that his friends said that’s typical of him because he tells a joke and then he tells it again in a different way. Aron’s friends said to me, “Wow, that was so accurate” about the way you are.

Building the Character:

What was your way into this character, James?

JF: Well, we did a bunch of things. Let’s see, I met with Danny I think in maybe October or November of last year and then soon after that, he told me I should go on a diet because first of all, Aron was in great shape but also he lost 40 pounds while he was there from water deprivation mostly. So of course we couldn’t do that over the course of filming but one thing we could do was I could get down to a very thin state and then for the early scenes we could do various things with makeup. We actually even built this prosthetic that we ended up unfortunately calling the plum puss. It’s just like this mouth piece that would put my cheeks out for the early parts of the film. Then as he started deteriorating we could use smaller and smaller versions until we didn’t use any and I would look more gaunt than I did at the beginning.

How did you stay true to Aron while building the character?

JF: We met with Aron extensively. When Danny was writing the original script, I think he met with him a bunch. He even had certain things that he – - I guess you had to make some deals with him and he insisted there were certain things in the movie or certain lines because I remember, there were certain scenes were verbatim. Some of the video messages are verbatim what he actually said. But our whole approach, not just for the video messages but in general was that we would honor Aron’s story and we would do everything that he did but also we wanted to have our own approach to it or have the latitude to just find things on our own. We did the chipping and everything as he did, but not like matching exactly what was his hand movement like?

Were you able to incorporate your own additions to the character? How did you do that?

JF: It was really just doing it on our own and figuring that out. So with the voice messages, they were scripted but I felt like, maybe he didn’t believe this, but I think he gave me the freedom to be a little loose with the words. The most important thing was that it would feel natural and because actually when we watched the real videos, one of the more powerful things about them is how simple it was and how direct and connected it was. To capture that, Danny I think allowed me some looseness but every once in a while there’d be a line in there and I’d say to myself, “I don’t know. I just won’t say that because it’s kind of stupid. Who talks like that?” Not even stupid, it’s just like completely unnecessary. Like “Give this video camera to my parents, be sure of that.”

Little repetitions he would do.

JF: I would try and not say a couple of those things and then Danny would come to me and say, “Well, actually, for whatever reason, Aron’s insistent that you say those two words.”

DB: That was one, it was funny.

JF: But I think you actually cut some of them out.

DB: Yes, I did. Yeah, because you’ve got to take control of it. You can’t honor his story if you’re in a three legged race, if me and him are tied together and hopping along because we’re keeping an eye on Aron the whole time. You’ve got to brief yourself completely, immerse yourself in it, have this idea that you will respect his story ultimately and then make your own version of it. I’m a big believer in that, otherwise it’s a TV survival story. You want to go on a journey with an actor. Even before I knew James, I said to him in 2006, “I want to go on a journey with an actor. I believe in actors, I believe in them telling us their stories. That’s the power of cinema. It’s an incredible thing.” And it’s not just cinema which is like 100 years old. It goes way back in our collective history. We want to see drama told in a cathartic way, with power, with emotion where you empathize and then you’re frightened. All those feelings charge up in you and you feel for the story. If you tell it well you have a point suddenly where it just focuses into a scene which I guess in this one is the amputation, where people can put all sorts of their feeling in it. Some people are exhilarated in it, shouting, “Yes!” like that and other people can’t look. Other people are almost faint. People are breathless. I sat behind a couple of guys who were humming all the way through it, “hmmmmmmmm mmmmm mmmm” like this. That’s what drama’s about. It’s that power you can get through it, it’s a wonderful opportunity but you have to take your own control of it.

The Graphic Nature of “The Arm Scene”:

Did you expect people to really focus on that scene as they have at festivals and early screenings?

JF: I don’t know, Danny.

DB: It’s sort of inevitable. It worries us in a way because actually it’s a passageway, really, that scene to something else that’s much more important than it which is what Aron says about the scene. He did leave something behind obviously but what he gained was so much more than what was left behind so it’s a doorway really to something else, for something much more important. But inevitably people concentrate on it and we knew that going in that it would have that kind of tendency to it. Whether the film was successful or not, or well told or not, inevitably there’d be incredible focus on that scene. So we told it as truthfully as we could. It is the section of the movie more than any other where we keep very closely to the book, very, very closely.

It is less than the actual amount of time it took by quite a bit, correct?

DB: Yes. The time it took him, it took over 40 minutes. The plateaus of pain he went through as he kept going and as I said, the most important thing is that there is a story in there about where he’s going. It’s not about a brutal act. It is brutal but it is about where he’s going, not about the moment itself and that helped him get through it. It helped us get through it I think and it certainly did for Aron. You mustn’t sensationalize that by adding gore or making it too Hammer house of horror, but nor must you trivialize it by making it look too easy or too simple or not painful enough really. So that’s what we tried to do.

How did you create the first portion of the movie leading up to getting trapped?

DB: Well, the first bit, listen, his opinion of his life, it’s a point of view film really. It actually happens to be our point of view of him but we’re down in the canyon with him so it’s a first person immersive experience. So we thought okay, what’s his life like? What does he think of his life? He thinks it’s just awesome. So we wanted to make the film at the beginning awesome, just pleasure. And irresponsible pleasure. It doesn’t look irresponsible but it is. What he does with those girls is reckless. One of them could easily have been killed. You don’t feel it like that because when you are 27, when you get away with things like that, it’s like, “Awesome! And these old fogeys are telling us be careful. Ha! Who cares about that?” You just have a great time and we wanted it to be full of adrenaline and his love of the wilderness and music and movement, constant movement. He crashes on his bike, a mighty crash, what does he do? He laughs and takes a picture of it. This is three years before Facebook and YouTube all becoming where you post stuff like this on it, but he’s recording it all.

Then he gets stopped. We thought that’s the way in for the audience as well is that we’re trying to put people on an adrenaline ride, so the film is going to feel deeply pleasurable and then it stops and you have to rethink. You can’t keep going on that adrenaline. There’s a reprocessing that’s going to have to go on now… The next thing he says is “Think, think.” Because he’s just wasted 1/3 of his life. 1/3 of his future life is gone in just one gulp and he has to restrategize. It’s an emotional journey that he goes on, not just a physical. He keeps going physically but it’s an emotional journey he has to go on. That was the idea of the film.

Difficulties in Shooting the Film:

James, how difficult and challenging was it working with an arm tied behind your back?

JF: Was it difficult? Sure. I wouldn’t say – - there were a lot of things that were unusual. You don’t usually spend most movies with an arm pinned behind a boulder but you also don’t spend most movies alone or without other actors for most of the movie. So all of that took adjusting, not just for me. It was everybody. Danny as a director I’m sure is used to directing scenes where he has multiple people and that takes certain kind of skills. If you have a fight scene, you work with the various actors in that way, or a love scene, you’re directing them to come together but it’s always about how are these characters interacting. So when you take one away, it’s taking away something that is so essential to the way we’re used to working that everybody has to readjust. I’d say it’s certainly unusual but I wouldn’t say it was difficult. There was never the moment where it was like, “Danny, we’re making an impossible. This is just ridiculous. This just can’t be done.” It felt very natural but we just had to adjust.

For Danny when he’s talking about this long scene, it was like 20 minutes I guess when he finally said cut. We figured out that that was a way to proceed with a lot of the movie. I imagine as a director, it must have taken a lot of trust because we would discuss in detail everything beforehand, but then every once in a while – - but then he’d let me go. So it’s not like he’s directing it in the sense like, “Okay, then at a minute 03, you have to be here.” It’s just letting me go and experiencing it and then also trusting his DPs that they will capture it in the right way. The shots were set up to a certain extent but they were very mobile cameras and within that range, they could do anything, react to what I was doing. I guess what I’m saying is we all kind of learned how to do that and found the best way to make this performance feel organic.

Other Non-127 Hours Topics:

Was Rise of the Apes a chance to do a full on action hero role?

JF: I play a nerdy scientist in that so I’m not an action hero at all. I saw 127 Hours as an opportunity to have an unusual acting experience and I honestly felt the same way about Planet of the Apes where when I first heard about it I thought, “Well, hmm, I don’t know. Those masks have cult value but… And then I found out oh, that that’s not how they’re doing it, that it’s actually all of Peter Jackson’s Weta people doing CG and that I’ll be working with Andy Serkis who played Gollum, and it was the DP from Lord of the Rings, Andrew Lesnie. I was such a big fan of those movies and I am interested in new ways of performing and new ways of film-making so I thought why not?

I had this opportunity and try it out. It was actually, when I got to do the scenes with Andy Serkis, it was actually really interesting because Danny and I have actually talked about this too, he plays a chimpanzee, a real chimpanzee. There’s no way we would ever get scenes that we did with a real chimpanzee. Acting opposite – - because Andy’s so good at that behavior so it’s like acting opposite a real chimpanzee with great acting instincts. It was cool, it was new, new for me.”

Are you in a “why not” phase, with General Hospital, to test different things?

JF: It’s not why not but it’s more like oh, that’s new. Yeah, I’m interested but not “Hey James, why don’t you shoot yourself in the foot or something?” Yeah, why not? Not quite Jackass yet.

What can we look for in the Olympics?

DB: A seat first of all. Get a seat. No, we’re just starting work on it really but it won’t be like Beijing because what could be like Beijing? Nothing could anymore so it will be very different, a bit more intimate hopefully.

Are you excited?

DB: Oh yeah, I was very proud to be asked because I live very close to the stadium. There’s been a lot of developments in a very run down area of London. I’m a sports fanatic as well so yeah, it’s great.

Will he or won’t he? That is the question that people have been asking Danny Boyle ever since the release of 2007′s 28 Weeks Later. Will the Oscar winner return to the director’s chair to helm a third installment? Fans of the series have been teetering on “maybe” for years and now Boyle has given us new hope…

According to Dread Central:

Boyle stated, ““there’s another 28 Days Later in the works.” When asked if the title would be 28 Months Later, Boyle replied “In theory, yes.” Immediately the next question was if he’d be producing, to which Boyle responded, “Actually I want to direct it.” There you have it, kids. From the horse’s mouth.

Even though the director seems gung-ho about directing the sequel, which is being called 28 Months Later, there may be a snag. According to Worst Previews, they might have some copyright issues to iron out before Boyle can direct anything.

A month ago 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland stated, “The rights were frozen between a group of people who are no longer talking to each other,” he explained. “And so, the film is never going to happen unless those people start talking to each other again.”

The site goes on to say that to their knowledge nothing has been resolved. Maybe Boyle knows something we don’t?

Do you want to see Boyle direct 28 Months Later?

A new trailer has been released for Danny Boyle’s upcoming biopic, 127 Hours. The film stars James Franco as a rock climber who gets stuck in the most horrendous situation that forces him to make a drastic decision. The first trailer was released at the end of August, and the second one is right here ready to go. Check out the latest trailer…

The new trailer was released in HD over on Apple but we’ve got it right here for your viewing pleasure:

“There is no force on earth more powerful than the will to live.” This theatrical trailer really pulls at the heart strings. You see a wide array of emotions from Franco, that make you feel so much compassion for the character, which is only compounded by the fact that it’s based on a real person.

127 Hours is a biopic based on Aron Ralston’s 2003 struggle to survive in the cold mountains of Utah when his arm got pinned beneath a boulder. After 5 days he amputated the limb using a dull knife, and proceeded to climb a 65-foot sheer wall to reach his freedom. He eventually encountered a family who gave him food and water, and notified the authorities.

The film also stars Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara, who are both featured in the trailer.

What do you think of the new trailer for 127 Hours?

You can’t really judge how good or bad a performance will be off a couple of photos but at first glance, this doesn’t look like Aron Ralston. It looks like James Franco in some cargo shorts. Actual trailer footage will better because we can get a feeling of him as the character through dialogue and movement. Here, it’s all stationary.

127 Hours is scheduled to hit theaters on November 5th.

What do you think of the first photos of Franco as Ralston?

When the 2012 Summer Olympics roll around they’re going to have a tough act to follow. China really brought their A-game when they hosted the event with an opening ceremony that was calculated and breathtaking. Therefore London is bringing out the big guns. The Olympic committee has turned to native Brit and Oscar winning director Danny Boyle to help bring their show to life.

Boyle was rumored to be involved with the event a couple weeks ago but no confirmation had been made at the time. According to Yahoo Sports, on Thursday he was officially introduced as the artistic director of the 2012 London Olympics that will take place on July 27th. He’ll be aided by another talented director Stephen Daldry who will be an executive producer of both the opening and closing ceremonies. When they were told that they would be a part of such a monumental event both directors were honored to take on the task.

“It’s a fantastic responsibility,” Boyle said. “When they offered us the job, they said, `Do you want to think about it?’ I said, ‘No, I want to do it.”’

They’ll be following in the footsteps of Zhang Yimou, the famous Chinese director who helped produce the Beijing Olympic ceremony in 2008, a spectacle that brought in over 1 billion TV viewers. Can two acclaimed British helmers top that?

Both Daldry and Boyle have directed films that have amazing musical sequences like Billy Elliot and Slumdog Millionaire. It will be interesting to see what the creative geniuses have hiding up their sleeves. They’ve got 2 years to get it together.

What do you think of Boyle and Daldry taking on the London Olympic ceremonies?

The first thing that went through my head while watching the 2010 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony was what the faces of the London 2012 organizers looked like. I imagined them putting their heads in their hands, crying. Maybe they thought about giving the 2012 Olympics to Chicago and letting them look stupid. Well, they didn’t. So the obvious next thing that they did after crying and getting a colonoscopy was to ask themselves, “How the Hell are we going to top that?” Their answer: Danny Boyle.

That’s right. The Oscar-winning director of such films as 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Slumdog Millionaire is rumored to direct the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. I suppose they are trying to do what China did when they chose filmmaker Zhang Yimou to direct their opening ceremony. I can understand Zhang Yimou having been selected because he has made some absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous films (Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Curse of the Golden Flower). I have nothing against Danny Boyle at all. I love his films. But man, he had better pull something brilliant off if he’s going to even come close to being on par with Beijing 2010.

If it wasn’t already looking grim for Boyle, it looks like he’s going to have to deal with the two most retarded Olympic mascots I’ve ever seen: Wenlock & Mandeville…

Oh yes. Those two phallic fun-rods are real. Danny Boyle, if I were you and they showed me a pictures of those two, I’d be planning to fake my own death right about now.

Although, if you do just let thousands of zombies run around biting people during the opening ceremony… I’ll consider it a success. Maybe there could be a graphic blood spurting scene with Wenlock & Mandeville? Just a thought.

Do you think Danny Boyle is going to be able to pull off an opening ceremony up to par with Beijing 2010? (No answering if you’re British.)

Danny Boyle is pulling out all the stops for his next film 127 Hours, which is a fact based feature centering on a man’s captivity in the mountains. The Oscar winning director recently revealed a few tidbits about his latest production including who’ll help him behind the camera. According to The Playlist, Boyle won’t use one, but he’ll have two cinematographers on board to film the vast landscape of the project.

Boyle’s cinematographers of choice worked on 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later respectively, with the first film being directed by Boyle himself. Their names are Anthony Dod Mantle (28 Days) and Enrique Chediak (28 Weeks), and they’ll be on board for the new film that tells the real life story of mountain climber Aron Ralston. Golden Globe winner James Franco has been hired as the lead, and Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara round out the supporting cast.

With this new development comes more info regarding the film’s set up. The story will center on Ralston’s ability to survive in the cold mountains of Utah when his arm got pinned beneath a boulder. After 5 days he amputated the limb using a dull knife, and proceeded to climb a 65-foot sheer wall to reach his freedom. He eventually encountered a family who gave him food and water, and notified the authorities. The traumatic event happened back in 2003 and was covered by every major media outlet.

With so much solo time in the mountains, you have to wonder how Boyle will keep the audience interested. Will we have another Castaway on our hands? In the latest issue of Empire the director states,

“There is dialogue at the beginning, and at the end, obviously, but for most of the film he doesn’t have anyone to talk to. But what came to light is that he had a video camera with him, and he recorded six or seven messages, for those he thinks are going to grieve for him, basically saying goodbye. We’ve seen the messages, he doesn’t tend to show them. … So if you like, that is the dialogue, with a future he thinks he is not going to have.”

Interesting take Mr. Boyle. Interesting indeed.

What do you think of Boyle’s vision for 127 Hours? What do you think about him using 2 cinematographers?

Now we’re hearing that the lead role has already been cast and it’s Harry Osborn aka James Franco.

According to Production Weekly Franco will star as Ralston, a man who managed to survive in the cold mountains of Utah when his arm got pinned beneath a boulder. After 5 days he amputated the limb using a dull knife, and proceeded to climb a 65-foot sheer wall to reach his freedom. He eventually encountered a family who gave him food and water, and notified the authorities. The traumatic event happened back in 2003 and was covered by every major media outlet.

Filming on the movie begins in early March in the state of Utah. This makes me happy in so many ways, because I’ve been suffering through Franco’s watered down performance on “General Hospital” for almost 2 months and it’s killing me. He needs a project to revive his amazing talent. Starring as the lead in a movie of this stature will definitely do the trick. I can’t wait to see him get fully involved with the role.

Do you think Franco is the right choice to play Ronston in 127 Hours?

Oscar winning director Danny Boyle has finally confirmed his next feature film project. For months we’ve been hearing rumors that he would take on the real life story of mountain climber Aron Ralston, and its just been confirmed. According to Variety, the film will be entitled 127 Hours and will center on Ralton’s fight for his life while trapped between a rock and a hard place.

127 Hours is scheduled for a late 2010 release, and will be produced by Fox Searchlight and Pathe. Boyle has already written up a treatment for the film’s script, which Simon Beaufoy is in talks to pen. The story will center on how Ralston survived in the cold mountains of Utah when his arm got pinned beneath a boulder. After 5 days he amputated the limb using a dull knife, and proceeded to climb a 65-foot sheer wall to reach his freedom. He eventually encountered a family who gave him food and water, and notified the authorities.

Ralton’s extraordinary story became headline news back in 2003 when it first broke. He became an overnight celebrity and hero for those who didn’t feel like they had the strength to face their obstacles. 127 Hours will mark the fifth collaboration between Boyle and Searchlight, which is turning out to be a very lucrative partnership for both.

Aron Ralton’s story has all the makings of an inspirational Hollywood movie. The best thing they can do is find an actor who will project his strength, but not take away from his plight. Perhaps, James McAvoy or Ryan Gosling could take on the role?

What do you think of Danny Boyle directing 127 Hours?

After all that neigh saying, finally we get some positive news about some of the child actors in Slumdog Millionaire. Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail (featured above) and his mother moved into a new home today thanks to Director Danny Boyle. Instead of just giving him money which everyone knew would either go to the parents or wasted away, Boyle set up a way for Ismail to have security in the future and a new home now.

If Ismail continues his education and graduates from school, the home will be transferred to his name when he turns 18-years-old. The trust was set up by the filmmakers (Boyle and Christian Colson) to secure an education, housing and a living allowance for Ismail and his co-star Rubina Ali, 9.

Showing his appreciation, the 11 year old said:

“I want to thank Danny Boyle for giving us this flat.”

The apartment is on the ground floor of a seven story brown concrete apartment building called “Harmony,” which sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Santa Cruz West section of Mumbai, a far cry from Garib Nagar where they used to live. Garib Nagar translates to “City of the Poor” and is one of Mumbai’s more wretched slums. They will share the flat with Ismail’s brother and his wife who will sleep on a mattress in the kitchen. However, his father, Mohammad Ismail will remain in their old apartment.
