This weekend prepare yourself for the return of The Crazies. The original film was directed by George A. Romero and debuted in theaters in 1973. Over 30 years later, Breck Eisner is attempting to bring the tale to a new generation of fans with the help of Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, and Danielle Panabaker. A new featurette has been released and it shows all the pandemonium that’s been generated by this oldie but goodie horror classic.

Breck Eisner’s remake of The Crazies, which will be helmed by George A. Romero film, has added two cast members. Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) and Joe Anderson (The Ruins and Amelia) have signed on to star in the Overture remake. Danielle Panabaker is to star as the medical center receptionist, and Joe Anderson has signed on as the town’s deputy. Timothy Olyphant is set to star as the town sheriff.
The script, written by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright, is about the events that unfold in a small town in Kansas after a plane crash releases a deadly biological weapon.
George Romero has signed on as executive producer, along with Michael Aguilar, Rob Cowan, and Dean Georganis. The film is set to begin on March 5 in Georgia, along with additional shooting in Iowa.
Who thinks these two ladies have the chops to remake a classic?

Here are some of the top news stories of the day…..
- Speaking of Friday the 13th, check out some video interviews with the film’s cast. The actors featured include Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti and Danielle Panabaker. Watch as “they talk about their roles in this reboot of the long-running slasher franchise and their encounters with Jason Voorhees.” [Shocktillyoudrop]
- Sad news to report. They’re making a movie based on the children’s toy, Stretch Armstrong. It’s disturbing, but true. Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights from Hasbro, and they’ve hired Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty) to write the script. [Variety]
- Academy Award winning director Curtis Hanson has signed on for a new film entitled, Gemini Man.”The Disney project involves a government agent on the verge of retirement, only to wind up in the sights of an assassin who is actually a young clone of himself.” [Joblo]

Hollywood Reporter states that Jack Black will be playing the role of Matt Damon in a live-action Bourne Indentity spin off by Kung Fu Panda writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. In the film, Black washes up on a dessert Island and somehow believes he was a spy. Could be funny?
Danielle Panabaker (Sky High, Mr. Brooks) will star in Chuck Russell’s upcoming sci-fi action film called Prodigy about an elite prep school. The story is based on Dave Kalstein’s book, about students becoming geniuses with the help of drugs and diets. Sounds like fun! Sounds a bit Cruel Intentions-ish, but I’m sure it’s got it’s own thing going. Afterall, kids and drugs, what’s not to love?
