Curious as to what, exactly, Daniel Day Lewis will look like as our nation’s 16^th president in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Abraham Lincoln biopic (the cleverly-titled Lincoln)? The first picture from the set has been released and, well, perhaps unsurprisingly, the famously method actor looks a lot like Lincoln.

There is currently no set release date for Lincoln, but we do know that it is set for a “late 2012” release, which will place it squarely in solid Oscar-bait season. And while the film will certainly revolve around Daniel Day Lewis’ performance, Spielberg has assembled quite a cast of luminaries for the flick (via /Film): Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Joseph Cross, David Strathairn, Walton Goggins, Lee Pace, Jackie Earle Haley and David Oyelowo.

One can only hope that Lewis isn’t being so method that he’s demanding that he be addressed as “Abe Lincoln” backstage, which would be a little weird, but probably not nearly as weird as constantly demanding that people open fire at him inside of Spielberg’s theater where they watch the daily footage. That’s just inappropriate.

The Dunder Mifflin paper company from NBC’s The Office is now becoming real paper! In a plot that sounds straight out of, well, The Office, NBC has just signed a deal with a major supplies store, in order to give their paper business a kick by producing Dunder Mifflin paper. We’ve also got a photo of Nicolas Cage on the cover of a piece of unusual material (which, considering it’s Cage, isn’t that unusual at all), and news on Bryan Singer‘s new job (hint: it involves a TV show about a big green man who is neither the Incredible Hulk or the Jolly Green Giant).

Dunder Mifflin Paper: The Office‘s paper company Dunder Mifflin is branching out, into the real world. NBCUniversal has just signed a deal to license the name of The Office‘s fictional paper company to Quill.com. This was mainly done to help said company’s failing paper business because, well no one’s buying paper anymore. The niche paper will include well-known slogans from this hilarious TV show that will surely make it difficult for hard core fans to resist.
New Job for Bryan Singer: Director of X-Men and Superman Returns Bryan Singer will be bringing The Munsters to the masses. Singer will direct and executive produce a reboot of the 1960s comedy for NBC.
Nicolas Cage Textbook: Nicolas Cage isn’t only a movie star, he’s also the face of the study of life. Best Week Ever found a photo of a young Nic Cage in Raising Arizona, along with Holly Hunter and baby Arizona, on the cover of an 8th Grade Biology textbook in Serbia. Abraham Lincoln in Jeans : The next time we see Daniel Day Lewis on the big screen, he will be channeling one of the greats – President Abraham Lincoln. But that won’t be for at least another year. Brian Williams Gets Interrupted on Live TV: Brian Williams’ show “Nightly News” was interrupted earlier this week, by a fire alarm. Just a few seconds into his first story (about American Airlines’ bankruptcy), a fire alarm went off in the studio. At first, Williams tried to ignore it, but when once he realized the alarm wasn’t shutting down, he told viewers, “You’ll forgive us, we have a fire alarm announcement going on here.” Take a look at the video below, and see how Williams handles the whole situation like a pro.

Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln adds Sally Field as Mary Todd

Steven Spielberg has been talking about making a bio-pic of Abraham Lincoln for nearly two decades. For years Liam Neeson was attached to play the bearded president, but recently Daniel Day-Lewis has taken up the lead role in Lincoln. But it looks like the project is finally moving forward as a second cast announcement has been made: Sally Field will play Mary Todd Lincoln.

Initially it seemed part of Spielberg’s attraction to the material was to follow in the footsteps of John Ford, as Spielberg has always been a fan of the Ford film Young Mr. Lincoln. But Spielberg twenty years on from Schindler’s List seems less likely to make a hagiography, and instead find his events or focus that show a great but human man.

What isn’t known is how the film will deal with the couple’s sexuality. Field is currently 64, while Day-Lewis is 53. We’re not going to see their courtship (though perhaps in flashback), but long has it been rumored that Lincoln was a homosexual, which has led to the term “log-cabin Republicans” in deference to the president, and homosexual republicans.

The film will be based on the book “Team of Rivals,” by Doris Kearns Goodwin, with a screenplay from Tony Kushner, best known for his play “Angels in America.” Kushner collaborated with Spielberg on the screenplay for Munich. Spielberg has two films due at the end of 2011, likely this would be his 2012 Oscar contender.

Steven Spielberg Lands Daniel Day-Lewis For His Lincoln Project

This whole Lincoln thing just got serious! After being in the works, postponed, back in business and then delayed again… Steven Spielberg‘s long over-due cinematic portrayal of Abraham Lincoln has just scored itself an actor that should most likely get things finally moving! DreamWorks has just announced that Daniel Day-Lewis has officially signed on to star as Abraham Lincoln in Spielberg‘s Lincoln. of course, Spielberg couldn’t be more excited…

“Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest of actors, were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema’s distant future. I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with Lincoln,” said Steven Spielberg. “Throughout his career, he has been exceptionally selective in his choice of material,” added Stacey Snider, “which makes us feel even more fortunate that he has chosen to join with us for Lincoln.”

Though Robert Redford has about a years head start on his Lincoln film, The Conspirator with James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn, there’s apparently plenty of room for two Lincoln films… hey it work for Capote, right? Oh wait, no it didn’t! Well, maybe it will this time!

Spielberg’s film will be based on the best-selling book, “Team of Rivals,” by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the screenplay has been written by the Pulitzer Prize winner, Tony Award winner, and Academy Award nominated writer Tony Kushner.

The film is expect to “focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.”

The is expected to begin shooting in the fall of 2011 for release in the fourth quarter of 2012 through Disney’s Touchstone distribution label. Seems like they’re still moving somewhat slowly, but at least there’s some movement!

Daniel Day-Lewis As Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2?

During the 2009 holiday season, Sherlock Holmes was a huge hit for Warner Bros grossing over $500 million worldwide. The studio went on and green lit a sequel for December 2011, which will feature the return of Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and director Guy Ritchie. [Spolier] In the first film it was revealed that there was another criminal mastermind behind the string of crimes in London that had nothing to do with Lord Blackwood. They were engineered by Prof. James Moriarty, a character we never even see on screen…

According to SHH, Ritchie has a two-time Oscar winner in his sights to play the role of Holmes’ arch-enemy and it’s Daniel Day-Lewis. When Moriarty appears at the end of the first film he’s just a voice attached to a shadowy figure. It was previously suspected that Brad Pitt would take over the role because he was seen on the set during filming and has worked with the director before.

While Day-Lewis is the top Moriarty contender several other actors have also been mentioned such as Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman. All four men are extremely talented but give me Day-Lewis and Oldman any day. Nobody does crazy and calculated like Gary Oldman (why doesn’t he have an Oscar yet?)

At the moment this is all speculation, but out of this bunch who do you think should play the character?

Rob Marshall’s Third Nine Trailer

A new trailer has been released for the Rob Marshall musical Nine. As the release date nears, the Weinstein Company continues to pull out all the stops to make the film’s presence known this holiday season. This is the third trailer for the film that features Daniel Day-Lewis as a misguided Italian film director.

In this latest Marshall production, the director takes on the Broadway winning musical of the same name that focuses on the life of Guido Contini.

Nine details the effort made by world-class filmmaker Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) in realizing his latest cinematic vision while simultaneously balancing his relationships with the many passionate and influential women in his life, including his mistress, Carla (Penélope Cruz), and wife, Luisa (Marion Cotillard).

The cast of the film also includes Kate Hudson, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, and Sophia Loren just to name a few. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day, which means it will be going head to head with the Warner Brothers action flick, Sherlock Holmes. It’s going to be hard to choose between those two, but we have an idea of who’s going to come out on top.

Two Depressing Nine Photos

The Rob Marshall adaptation of Nine will be at a theater near you starting November 25th, and the studio has been marketing the film like crazy. Two new photos from the musical have been released, and they feature Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis and Penelope Cruz. After taking a good look at both images, they have to be two of the most depressing photos I’ve ever seen. I know the film is about the highs and the lows of show business, but yeesh!

As you can see the sadness ensues. These are two of the most self-reflexive photos I’ve ever seen from the movie. Do we even need to discuss the composition of both images? The lighting is amazing, and really sets the mood for whatever the hell’s going with both characters. I smell another Oscar. Darn you Rob Marshall for your ability to produce high quality musicals!

I’m convinced only critically acclaimed actors could audition for this film.

The film is based on the Broadway play of the same name, and centers on a middle aged director trying to complete his latest movie. Unfortunately, the filmmaking process becomes a tedious task when his personal relationship with various women begins to interfere with his work. The film will debut this fall just in time for awards season, isn’t that convenient? Does anyone in this cast really need another nomination? Come on, now.

Nine hits theaters nationwide on November 25th.

Whenever I read news about the upcoming Rob Marshall feature, Nine I feel like bursting into song. It’s weird how musicals have that type of effect on you. Over at Latino Review, they’ve posted six new gorgeous production stills from the movie. Everyone looks sharp, on point, and dressed to the nines!

Nine has a cast filled with Academy and Grammy Award winners including Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, and Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson. How many accolades does one cast need? Not to mention the fact that the director’s previous musical Chicago won the Best Picture Oscar the year it was released.

Who We Would Cast in The Last Supper

As we all know from the chocolate bunnies and brightly colored eggs, Easter Sunday is fast approaching. During this time, many years ago, Jesus Christ was having his last meal with his twelve disciples. If you had to do a recreation of the Last Supper, who would you pick to play the parts? Who would play Jesus? This is my pick of actors who would be part of the recreation. Now I’m no casting director, but I think I did a pretty good job. It’s tough casting history’s important characters.

Here is the list:

Mary Magdalene: Angelina Jolie

Mary Magdalene was a woman of questionable morals before she became one of the disciples of Jesus. Now Angelina Jolie may not have been saved by Jesus, but she sure has cleaned up her act in the past few years. The once bad girl has reformed into a doting mother and humanitarian. Plus, she can definitely handle herself around all the men.

Saint Peter: Mel Gibson

Saint Peter is a hard one to match. He was the head disciple. Wouldn’t Mel Gibson just love to have this role? It could just feed his ego just a little bit more. Hopefully, his drunken rants might just be a little bit better.

Saint Andrew: Kevin McKidd

Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, and Kevin McKidd is from Scotland. Holy cow! They totally fit! Actually, Kevin McKidd is already accustomed to the roles having during historic periods, Rome anyone? I would be curious to see how he would do as a disciple of Jesus.

Saint James: Javier Bardem

Saint James is the patron saint of Spain, who spread the gospel in that region. Javier Bardem was born in Spain, and has proven his ability to spread his own kind of gospels in No Country for Old Men and Vicky Christina Barcelona. Mass murder and threesomes anyone?

John the Apostle: Johnny Depp

Whether or not Johnny Depp is capable of playing this role is not really my concern here. I think it would just be kind of fun to have him play a saint and so I picked one with the same name. He has a style of acting that is very much his own, and it would add a little spice to the movie. Now only if Tim Burton would direct it the film.

Saint Philip: Anthony Hopkins

Saint Philip is associated with power. He saved Bartholomew from crucifixion by rousing bystanders to free Bartholomew. Anthony Hopkins is a powerful figure in Hollywood, who I imagine could rally almost anyone he wanted into making a film. Plus, he played a serial killer before, so I imagine would add an interesting twist to a saint.

Saint Bartholomew: Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe has a mysterious aura about him. He seems like a distant, brooding traveler. Saint Bartholomew was known as the traveler of the bunch. Russell Crowe seems like he would play the religious nomad fairly well. It wouldn’t be a far cry from his previous role in Gladiator.

Saint Matthew: Philip Seymour Hoffman

If anyone can do Saint Matthew’s right, it’s Philip Seymour Hoffman. Well, that’s actually a little bit of a stretch seeing As Saint Matthew was a tax collector. But, I think he deserves a place on this list. He started out as an actor with very minor roles, and had now collected (see what I did there) many leading roles in some of the most prestigious films of the past decade. It might seem a little off, but hey, that’s the fun of it. Just make him grow out his hair, put a robe on, and he should be set to go.

Thomas the Apostle: Harrison Ford

Thomas was the skeptic out of the group; he didn’t believe it when Christ was resurrected. Personally, I would just love to hear Harrison Ford, in his Indiana Jones voice, cry out “It can’t be!” That would cause a chuckle. Saint Thomas was also the disciple to have traveled the furthest to spread Christianity. Harrison Ford has played an archaeologist on traveling all corners of the world for lost relics. It could work.

Saint James the Less: Liev Schreiber

Saint James wasn’t mentioned too much in the Bible. Poor guy witnesses all of these awful things, spreads the Holy scripture, and what does he get? Well he got an honorable mention. Maybe if he had a little bit more time, he would have a higher ranking. Well Liev Schreiber is one of those stars who has been appearing in more movies and doing a fantastic job and yet rarely ever gets mentioned. Until now!

Saint Simon: Sean Connery

Somehow it just seems fitting. Saint Simon was one of the lesser saints. Still important of course, but doesn’t dominate in the story of Jesus. A good fit for Connery. I’m sure you could fit a “Damnit Jesus! Don’t do it!” in there (in typical Sean Connery fashion, of course).

Saint Jude Thaddaeus: George Clooney

This is for all of the George Clooney fans. Who wouldn’t want to see George Clooney in a robe spreading the word of Jesus? Saint Jude also happens to be the patron saint of lost causes; he helped those who were hopeless. George Clooney has helped those who are hopeless in Darfur, so they have something in common.

Judas Iscariot: Christian Bale

This may seem like a risky choice. I think Christian Bale might curse me if he read this. I mean, who would want to be the one to play the most-hated man in history; he killed Jesus, the Son of God. However, Christian Bale is one of those actors who takes his roles very seriously and isn’t afraid to play the bad guy. He is a bit of a rebel and a hothead, but he recognizes his mistakes. After all, he is human.

Last but not least…

Jesus: Daniel Day Lewis

Any actor would love to be offered the role of Jesus, and there are a lot of actors who might actually do a decent job. Daniel Day Lewis is one of those talented actors who is not a “celebrity”, he is an actual actor. He has the ability to turn himself into almost anything he chooses. And if that isn’t reason enough for you, here’s another good one: have Daniel Day Lewis grow out his hair and he definitely looks like Jesus. Can you picture it?

Now the question is, who would direct the film? What do you think?
