When the most anticipated movie of the weekend wasn’t reviewed for critics as is barely expected to crack ten million, yeah, we’re in the dog days. Dream House – which wasn’t screened for critics – could lead the pack of new films, and The Lion King looks to end its two week run at the top of the charts, which means we may see Dolphin Tale climb to the top slot. Or perhaps Moneyball, or… forget it Jake, it’s September.

Oh boy—fans of the classic-era James Bond films just might have something to draw them to the upcoming (and currently untitled) James Bond 23, the third film in the Daniel Craig iteration of the long-running franchise: classic Bond super villain and arch nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld (you know, the guy that Dr. Evil was partly based upon) might be making an appearance in the Sam Mendes-directed film.

David Fincher now believes in viral marketing! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which will be hitting theaters just in time for Christmas, first had a bootleg trailer that sold Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the film with the sort of fast cutting one expects of Fincher. Now they’ve released an extended trailer (not intended for theaters) that sets up the entire film. Check it out.

This weekend in theaters, Favreau is back with two grumpy, bad-asses, Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford with his latest genre twist, Cowboys & Aliens. The film is big and bad, with plenty of explosions and known faces, but it never quite delivered on anything I was hoping for. The biggest problem with this film is that it’s very much a Western, with alien bad-guys, that never really evokes the natural comedy that one would imagine should come with a film titled “Cowboys& Aliens”. It’s still a bit shocking that there isn’t a steady drumbeat of geek excitement for a project that unites Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Edgar Wright together, but such is the case with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. It stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, and Oliva Wilde, and combines science fiction action (and invasion) with the old west.
