After watching Stephen Lang’s performance as Col. Quaritch in Avatar, you could tell he was good at playing the bad guy. Seriously, they might as well have put a stamp on his forehead that said “Villain,” because he was pure evil. Other people in the industry must have taken note of his devious portrayal because we’re hearing that he’s been offered the part of the main villain in the upcoming Conan movie.

It’s official. Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke has signed on to star in the big screen remake of Conan the Barbarian. Jason Momoa has already been hired to star as the title character and Rourke was previously rumored to play his dad. But according to a report from THR, his casting has been confirmed.

A while ago it was announced that “Stargate” and “Baywatch” star Jason Momoa was cast in the coveted role of Conan the Barbarian. Even though the actor has a decent acting resume he’s still relatively unknown to general audiences, and he’ll be joined in Conan by someone as equally fresh-faced. Here are some things that were going on in the movie world while you were busy laughing your ass off from watching The Hangover:
- Lucasfilm and longtime supplier GenArts have struck an R&D deal that underscores industry trends such as multi-platform production and shrinking budgets and schedules. “The aim is development of a consistent pipeline with real-time capabilities that offer visual continuity for content creation across mediums including features, TV and games.” (Variety)
- Fan of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog from the Conan O’Brien show? Conan has sent Triumph on a number of missions and each ones has been hysterical. Check out a list of funniest Triumph the Insult Comic Dog clips at unrealitymag.
- It looks like sexy/creepy star Javier Bardem is currently negotiating to star across Julia Roberts and Richard Jenkins in a Ryan Murphy-directed adaptation of the Elizabeth Gilbert memoir “Eat, Pray, Love.” (Variety)
- Steven Spielberg‘s latest project, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn will be released internationally late October/early November 2011 but won’t be open until Dec. 23rd, 2011 in the US. Ever since last year, rumors have had Ratner at the helm to reboot the Conan franchise even though there was no real confirmation that he would. Brett Ratner’s finally dishing some dirt on his upcoming reboot of Beverly Hills Cop. The director spoke to MTV about his vision for the film, and how he wants to revive the spirit of the 1984 version. The first thing on Ratner’s agenda is to get rid of any speculation regarding the film’s title. He said, “We’re not going to call it ‘4,’ it will be a new ‘Beverly Hills Cop.” He’s also going for stronger content as well, so we won’t being seeing a PG-13 rating this time around. According to Ratner, “it’s a hard R.”

Brett Ratner, the man who brought you the Rush Hour trilogy and the masterpiece X-Men: The Last Stand is at it again. According to Variety, Ratner has signed on to direct the graphic novel adaptation of Youngblood. The production company Reliance Big Entertainment have acquired the rights to the novel, and have inked a development deal with Ratner and his Rat Entertainment shingle for future projects.
