Cult comedy fans have something to rejoice about this morning—after years of Paramount Pictures stating it simply wouldn’t happen due to the low cost effectiveness of comedy sequels, Will Ferrell appeared on Conan on Wednesday night in character as Ron Burgandy. Why? To play a few flute solos, suggest host Conan O’Brien undergo plastic surgery after declaring him hideous, and then to announce that a little movie called Anchorman 2 is finally happening. Check out the video after the jump.

For those who’ve been following The Dark Knight Rises and the Bane controversy, there’s been back and forth recently about changing audio to make Tom Hardy‘s character slightly more understandable. Some said the audio was remixed, while recently the studio has said nothing was touched. Until the film comes out, it’s likely this will be a big question about the film. Thankfully Conan O’Brien is on top of it and has exposed the problem.

Bad news for fans of George Lopez—all six of you—as it turns on the late night talk show host and perennially unfunny comedian (and I’m using the work “comedian” very loosely) has been fired by TBS, and his talk show, the cleverly titled Lopez Tonight, cancelled.

Welcome to a story of fame, tragedy and comedy, in the well titled film Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop. In the film it would appear that comedy his like oxygen to him and as he says many times, applause is what brings him to life. There’s nothing more tragic then losing ones success in a heart beat. Welcome to Hollywood, the city that if you sleep, someone else will do you job for you and for less money. And even more to the point, welcome to trying to be a comedian in Hollywood. Where everyone always wants you to be entertaining, where you never get to stop for a moment, where if you’re not “on” the lights go off. Filmmaker Rodman Flender was able to get himself in the midst of the drama to expose the story of Conan O’Brien’s journey from failure to rebirth, and prove that in fact, he could not be stopped.

Oh, thank the gods—Conan O’Brien is returning to a television near you this fall. According to CNN (who is like TBS but owned by Time Warner), O’Brien will be starting a new late-night talk show to debut in November. Immediately following O’Brien’s new late-night show will be George Lopez with Lopez Tonight at midnight.
While one would have hoped for a two-birds-one-stone situation in which Conan returns to television only to utterly banish and destroy the sheer horror of horror s that is Lopez tonight, you gotta take what you can get. Let’s just hope that the resulting matter/ anti-matter collision of Conan’s humor to Lopez’s schtick will be enough to obliterate the latter.
O’Brien had this to say:

Conan is out, Jay is in. NBC has reportedly given Leno the Tonight Show from 11:35 – 12:35. So, how big are Jay Leno‘s balls for going through with this and putting the red-head out of a job? Or is that really the case.
It is still unclear exactly what has happened in this whole scuffle but one this is for sure, there are a lot of questions to be asked. And whose fault is it really? Is Leno just taking a spot that is rightfully his? Or has he had his time to shine? Is this a battle between to entertainers or are both of these men simply two victims of a network? And most importantly, will you watch Leno on the Tonight Show?
