Why can’t Hollywood just let sleeping dogs lie? Everything has to be a possible franchise,remake, reboot, or remix these days! According to /Film, there were rumors spinning around about whether or not Steven Spielberg and actress Drew Barrymore were teaming up for an E.T.: The Extraterrestrial II. A statement that even looks ridiculous when I type it. Last month the director guest edited the 20th anniversary edition of Empire Magazine, and answered letters sent in by various celebrities. One of them had a question from actress Eva Mendes who wondered if an E.T. sequel was happening, and if it was she “would fight Drew Barrymore for a part in it!”

Business management guru Tom Peters coined the line “under promise and over deliver.”  Now while that may work in business so you end up looking like a hero when your profits are higher than Wall Street thought, that mantra doesn’t work if you want to fill theater seats with warm bodies on opening weekend.  Instead, film trailer editors are masters at cutting their 2 minutes or so to include only the best jokes or action set pieces to make you wish you could see their movie RIGHT NOW!  Yeah, we’re all jaded into knowing that trailers over promise their goods, but here are five that abused that practice.
