Earlier this summer, Charlyne Yi‘s romantic “documentary” Paper Heart was all the rage. The film was a Sundance darling and earned accolades from all over the festival circuit. Yi not only stars but co-wrote the film along with Nicholas Jasenovec who also directed the movie. Paper Heart features several familiar faces, but most prominently highlights the appearance of Michael Cera. If you were a fan of the film in theaters you’ll love all the extras that will be included on the upcoming DVD.

By far one of the sweetest and most charming films to come out of the LA Film Festival is Nicholas Jasenovec’s film Paper Heart starring Michael Cera and the creator and co-writer of the film Charlyne Yi. The film is a mixture between a documentary that Charlene embarks on in order to find out what love is and a film about a love story. The film has interview with many different types of couples around the country and cardboard cut-out vignettes to show us how they fell in love. Overall, this film has a homemade and genuine quality that both intrigues and entertains.

The film has already won a Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and been nominated for the grand Jury Prize at Sundance. After the screening at LAFF, Jasenovec and one of the shining interviewees of the film David from Atlanta, got up to answer some questions.

This has got to be one of the sweetest trailers I’ve seen in a long time. I think Michael Cera is one of the move clever comedians to watch. Mix that with Charlyne Yi, a stand up comedian, who has a simple and honest way about her and you have the potential for an amazing comedy. Sadly, this isn’t a REAL documentary as they claim it is, but I’m going to pretend I don’t know that and go with that they give me.
