Also, Charlie Sheen‘s heading back to television (after being replaced on “Two and a Half Men”), Sean Penn‘s ready to direct and two new movie posters have hit the net.

Kim Kardashian: The Magic Johnson of Reality TV is hitting the big screen. Kim K has been cast in Tyler Perry‘s next movie The Marriage Counselor. EW reports that Kardashian will play a co-worker of the title character.
New Year’s Eve: Director Garry Marshall is bringing together as many actors as he can for his upcoming movie New Year’s Eve. A new poster for the film has been released, and there’s a total of 19 actors on it. Yes, actually on it! You can see it below.

Sean Penn: Sean Penn is returning to the director’s chair. This time he’ll be working with Robert DeNiro and Kristan Wiig in The Comedian, which centers on a faded comic who gets stuck doing community service and falls for a red head. Back in May, Martin Scorsese was rumored to direct, but that is no longer the case. While Penn is no Scorsese, he’s shown promise like with his 2007 feature Into the Wild. Good luck to him!
Shame Gets Rating: This was bound to happen to film about a sexaholic. Steve McQueen‘s Shame has been slapped with a NC-17 by the MPAA. In the film, Michael Fassbender plays a sex addict living in New York City. With the rating, Fox Searchlight won’t be able to make the big bucks because a most theaters refuse to carry anything beyond an R.
Charlie Sheen Is Coming Back to TV: Charlie Sheen is still winning! The former “Two and a Half Men” star is coming back to television after getting the boot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheen will star in a new show called “Anger Management” for FX. The series will be based on the 2003 Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson movie of the same name.
My Week With Marylin: Michelle Williams looks absolutely gorgeous in the new poster of My Week With Marilyn. She’s almost a spiting image of the late actress. Check it out.

Two And A Half Men: Season 9, Episode 1 Recap – Bye Charlie Sheen, Hello Ashton Kutcher

Well, it finally happened last night—the first non-Charlie Sheen episode of Two and a Half Man aired last night. The show, which, even with Sheen in the starring role was still one of the crappiest comedies on TV, is now starring Ashton Kutcher since Sheen publically flamed out and was kicked off the program. Many were curious how Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper, would be killed off, and how Kutcher’s character, Walden Schmidt, would be introduced. Well, Sheen’s character got pushed in front of a train in Paris (“His body just exploded like a balloon full of meat”), and Kutcher played a man who tried to kill himself in the ocean, and then decides to buy Sheen’s character’s house instead. Oh, the hilarity, right? Wrong. And it seems most critics agree.

Todd VanDerWerff of the The AV Club came down hard:

The problem is that Charlie Harper’s function was never horribly well defined. He was just a guy who sat around and tossed out horrible one-liners. So that means that Walden Schmidt feels a little desperate, a little too much like a show that prided itself on pushing people away as much as possible—a show that started with a funeral chorus of the theme song guys singing “Men” to the tune of the funeral march, for God’s sake—trying its darnedest to get people to like it. God willing, it’s not going to work out.

David Hinckley of The New York Daily News was not impressed with Kutcher:

Ashton Kutcher proved Monday night as he joined the cast of “Two and a Half Men” that he has no problem being naked.

Now he just needs to work on being funny.

Matt Roush of TV Guide laid it down like this:

Lots of fart and penis humor before it was all over, because you didn’t think Sheen’s departure would prompt a reinvention of CBS’s most successful and raunchiest comedy, did you? The show is and always has been a literal gag machine. “This is depressingly familiar,” said Alan toward the end, shortly before making his latest pathetic masturbation joke — some things never change — and for those who’ve never been amused, that was no doubt true. But for the millions who’ve reveled in its caustic innuendo and helped make the show a cash cow in syndication, there was no doubt a sense of relief in seeing the machine chugging along again with no apologies.

The consensus? Two and a Half Men still sucks, but now it sucks even more, thanks to Ashton Kutcher’s schtick. Congrats, CBS!

Charlie Sheen To Star In Film Adaptation Of His Life

In a very public act of viciously and brutally beating a dead horse into the ground as we all stand around in shocked, disbelieving silence tinged with the weary acceptance that it’s going to happen no matter what we do, Charlie Sheen has announced that he will be starring in a big-screen adaptation of his life, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III. Seriously.

Except, there will be few differences. Charlie Sheen will be playing Charlie Swan, for one thing. Oh, and Swan is a graphic designer, instead of an actor who was pretty ok in Platoon and Hot Shots!.

Variety has the scoop:

“The film’s plotline intersects with some of Sheen’s real-life travails — and no, he’s not playing a warlock. “Glimpse” follows a successful graphic designer whose fame, money and charm have made him irresistible to women. But when his girlfriend breaks up with him his life heads into a downward spiral.”

So who is bringing this cinematic kick to our culture’s collective nuts to the bring screen? Why it’s Roman Coppola, son of Francis and director of the quite awesome and underrated CQ. The film will costar Jason Schwartzman.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to sit in my closet and methodically rock back and forth while emitting a low hum for the next few hours, until I can purge this article from my memory.

The Roast of Charlie Sheen Teaser

The Charlie Sheen crazy train seemed to derail a couple months ago. You can only make so many tiger blood jokes. And while Sheen did a public speaking tour, and was recently booed at the gathering of the Juggalos, Two and a Half Men hired Ashton Kutcher and is going full steam ahead. We’ll see how well that works Sheen-free, but Charlie is not out of the spotlight, and on September 19, Comedy Central will air The Roast of Charlie Sheen. Check out the teaser.

The clip is – obviously- a parody of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb, and it points out the trouble with Sheen’s “meltdown.” Sheen is self aware enough to do this, so when he says funny weird things like “Vatican Assassins” et al. He knows what he’s doing.

Seth MacFarlane will be the roast master, and it seems likely that Jeffery Ross will be there. It’s hard to know if it will be a disaster or a disaster worth watching. And though Sheen has managed to keep himself near the spotlight, this is the end of this road until he does something illegal or does something like the Major League sequel.

Charlie Sheen May Star In TV Series Adaptation Of Adam Sandler Film

Ugh, good lord save us all, it’s happening again—after a relatively quiet early summer, the continuing trainwreck sprawl that is The Charlie Sheen Flame-Out of 2011 continues to roll ever onward with an inexorable and soul-crushing omnipotence (hey, look who bought a thesaurus today!).

After reports leaked that Sheen was going to be spilling his tigerblood at a Comedy Central Roast of himself set to air the same night that Two and a Half Men goes back on the air, and then after Sheen announced that he’d be bringing his calm, civilized air to the annual Gathering Of The Juggalos held by the Insane Clown Posse, The AV Club announced today that Sheen might be starring in a TV series adaptation of an Adam Sandler film, which is pretty much the most horrific thing that I have ever heard:

“Sheen intends to return to television in a sitcom version of the 2003 Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson pair-up Anger Management, with Sheen taking the Nicholson role as a counselor who puts his patients through an unusual form of therapy. Hollywood mogul Joe Roth, who produced the original film, is reportedly in talks with Lionsgate Television on the project, but no one else is currently attached. To give this news some shred of plausibility, Sheen’s television comeback would certainly draw some interest, if only for its trainwreck quality.”

Look, Universe, you’ve played some cruel jokes on us before, but this one just isn’t funny. We give up, Universe, we give up! You can stop now!

Charlie Sheen and WB Disagree if they’ve been talking about Two and a Half Men

As Charlie Sheen‘s tour across North America continues, and as The Hollywood Reporter notes every reception, it’s hard to say where Sheen-mania is in total. But one thing keeping the Ma-Sheen in the news is the constant rumors about what’s going to happen with “Two and a Half Men.” The Show has been a fountain of money for the studio, but Sheen’s recent behavior got him kicked off the show. Sheen has recently insisted they’re back in negotiations, Warner Brothers says they aren’t.

As Sheen is on a tour, it’s worthwhile for him to keep talking this up, but Warner Brothers keeps insisting there are no talks, and have no interest in Sheen’s return. But recently Sheen’s Lawyer told TMZ that, yes, discussion have been taking place. If this is true, by Sheen talking about it is he weakening or strengthening his position? Warner Brothers says they’re done with Sheen, and that seems to be worth believing for the time being.

Watching people react to the Charlie Sheen phenomenon, those who found it funny at first have mostly backed away – or at least there’s nothing new – and many who were amused backed off when it looked like Sheen had a medical condition, or might be on the verge of self-destruct. Currently the Sheen phenomenon is now mostly on Twitter, where he posts from time to time, this tour, and people’s reports on the tour. After that, likely this will all go away.

Chuck Lorre Reference Charlie Sheen Fued In ‘The Big Bang Theory’

In feud THAT NO ONE ON THE PLANET IS SICK OF YET, GUYS, SO PLEASE KEEP DOING THIS IN PUBLIC BECAUSE IT’S SOOO ENTERTAINING AT THIS POINT, Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre has hit back at Charlie Sheen, via his trademark ‘vanity card’ (it’s a post-credits, sometimes blink-and-you’ll-miss-it screen at the end of his sitcoms where he flashes a quick message to fans and/ or enemies). And, according to The Hollywood Reporter, last night’s broadcast of The Big Bang Theory featured a vanity card reference to the ongoing Charlie Sheen debacle.

Whenever I’ve gone through tough times, well-meaning people have told me that God/the universe does not give us more than we can handle. Well, I’ve been going through a tough time recently, and sure enough, that old saying has been tossed my way on several morose occasions. After some careful consideration, I’ve decided it’s bull$#*!. As an aphorism, it only makes sense in hindsight – after you’ve managed to crawl from the wreckage of whatever calamity that God/the universe decided to toss your way. No one ever uses it to comfort someone who’s been hit by a bus or turned into a puddle of goo by flesh-eating bacteria (although in the right circumstance, that could be a hoot). Another thing I hear a lot is, “this too shall pass.” Again, I know these are words meant to reassure, but somehow they always leave me feeling that heartbreak, rage and grief are going to come shooting out of me like kidney stones through an inflamed urethra. For someone in crisis, I think a more accurate and helpful assessment of reality would be, “Love, sex, food, friendship, art, play, beauty and the simple pleasure of a cup of tea are all well and good, but never forget that God/the universe is determined to kill you by whatever means necessary.” Consider trying that next time you’re called on to do some consoling. If you’re feeling impish, you might also try, “According to the rules of comedy, your suffering will be funny after an undetermined length of time. Maybe not while you’re having your gangrenous leg sawed off, watching your home burn down or learning how to be intimate with your cellmate, but, in the big scheme of things, soon.”

Well, ok then. So either that means that he’s finding ways to positively deal with the whole ‘Chuck Sheen is a mad man’ thing, or maybe he’s just launching a war of words with God—I dunno, it gets a little muddled there in the middle. But one thing is for certain—as long as this ridiculous battle between Lorre and Sheen ensures that Two and a Half Men will not come back on the air, this pop culture slapfight might just be worth it. I mean really—have you seen that show? I’d rather have to write about a million more of these self-involved musings than ever be forced to gaze upon that show (did you know they’re broadcast on plane flights? Torture!).

Martin Sheen Claims Charlie Sheen Is Emotionally Crippled (Gasp!)

Martin Sheen (father of Charlie), recently anointed himself in the role of Johnny Obvious this week, when he opened his mouth and roared in a voice made thunderous with shocking truths that hadn’t occurred to any of us, tearing the clouds asunder and splitting the very earth we walk upon with his shocking news: Charlie Sheen may be emotionally maladjusted.

BAM! Didn’t see that coming, did you, world? ZING! I tell you, if the Sheen family gets any better at dropping this wild and crazy nuggets, it’s gonna get mind-blowing.

According to ContactMusic, Marty had this to say:

“I know what hell he’s living in. I’ve had psychotic episodes in public. One of them was on camera – the opening scene of Apocalypse Now. So I know what Charlie is going through. When you do something like that, that is out of control, that’s the most difficult thing. You have to have courage… You know, Charlie’s 45 years old. He’s not a kid. Emotionally he still is. Because when you’re addicted, you don’t grow emotional. So when you get clean and sober, you’re starting at the moment you started using drugs or alcohol. You’re emotionally crippled.”

Pick yourself out of chair, dear reader, as shocking as that may be, we’ve got to keep moving on. *slaps your face* Damn it, we have to keep moving forward!

Charlie Sheen May Be a Man or Half Man yet!

The immortal question raised by all the drama around Charlie Sheen is and has always been this: Does the audience of “Two and a Half Men” care? Oh sure, Sheen may be cavorting with hookers and porn stars, and may be locking them in closets and accidentally shooting them, but that’s part of Sheen’s mythos at this point. And Forbes has shown that his show is the #2 moneymaker on television. Word comes now from Reuters that this drama may be Tiger Blood under the bridge for CBS, and Sheen may yet come back to the show.

The bottom line is this: When every episode of “Two and a Half Men” generates $2.89 million per show of revenue above the cost of production, then almost any thing can be forgiven. And that seems to be the case here as Sheen has proven that he can make money by doing tours (he sold out two Radio City Music Hall shows, which is four times what Kevin Smith could muster!) For CBS it’s a losing venture to let him go without making sure that he isn’t toxic.

And since the show rests on the idea that Sheen’s character is a playboy, and Sheen has never pretended to be anything but a bad boy, it’s quite possible that the audience for the show won’t see these latest skirmishes or any of his illicit or illegal activities as a slight against him or the show. Regardless of the tumultuous relationships between Sheen and the writers/creators of the show, if it maintains itself it may get the pass it has always gotten. The show seems bulletproof in that regard, unless that audience sees Sheen’s latest behavior as akin to couch jumping. But when Tom Cruise acted nutty, or Lindsay Lohan proved to be less than the girl next door it hurt their images – but mostly because they were seen as normal. How do you hurt the image of someone who’s always acted as Sheen has?

And to that, no one seems to judge Charlie Sheen except people who seem to not watch the show. Sheen’s gotten some hipster cred for his latest bombshells, but his core base for the show likely isn’t laughing at his twitter account ironically.

Charlie Sheen To Make $300,000 From The First Two Shows Of His Tour

Like the rest of you, I’ve found myself unable to sleep at night, deeply, deeply concerned about how Charlie Sheen will be able to maintain his finances in the wake of being fired from Two and a Half Men. Well, gang, breathe easy—I think the little scamp that could is going to be A-OK.

That’s because The Hollywood Report has noted today that Sheen is set to make a cool $300,000 from the first two nights alone of touring the country with his Charlie Sheen Live: My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option spoken-word tour, in which he is going to make gargantuan amounts of money for being coke-thin and saying a string of nonsense words together in a fashion vaguely coherent enough for fratboys to fashion t-shirts and slogans out of.

According to THR:

“His first engagements in Detroit and Chicago sold out on Ticketmaster.com in a record-breaking 18 minutes. (Five additional dates were announced March 15, including a gig at the 6,000-seat capacity Radio City Music Hall in New York.) Sheen will pocket about $300,000 for the first two shows, sources say.”

And it’s looking like he could easily pocket $150,000 per show—which, if this teaches us anything, it’s that doing an insane amount of drugs always, always pays off if you say funny things while you do them.

Charlie Sheen is Worth a Million Hits

The speed to which pop culture takes and unpacks its pop culture moments is breathtaking. Charlie Sheen became a phenomenon when he did an interview where he made a bunch of references to “winning” and “Vatican Assassins” and “tiger blood,” and came off as amusingly out of his mind. Quickly, the impressions and jokes went viral. Sheen joined Twitter, and within a day he had a million followers – he’s now nearing three million. He also lost his highly paid gig on “Two and a Half Men,” and quickly wore out his own jokes. But Techcrunch has found what a mention from Sheen is – or quite possibly was – worth: A Million hits.

Sheen tweeted he was looking for a “winning” intern, and posted a link, which gave internships.com those million page views. How many people actually applied is unknown. Sheen’s popularity achieved a critical mass out of public curiosity, and the sort of rubbernecking that comes with head-on collisions. Sheen quickly became a meme machine, but just as quickly – at least for many – the jokes wore themselves out, partly because Sheen was aware of what he was doing. Recently Saturday Night Live offered up a parody that could do little but note his catchphrases and suggest that he was in the company of losers who thought they had it all.

With tragic world events (re)capturing the news and pop culture’s attention span, it’ll be interesting to see if people will continue to be amused with Sheen’s rants in a week’s time, especially because Sheen seems to have one note, which will likely kill the joke no matter the next catchphrase.

Celebrities – by their nature – attract tons of twitter followers: performers like comedian Paul Scheer or model Adrianne Curry have nearly a hundred and fifty thousand followers, whereas Kevin Smith has nearly two million, Dr. Drew two million plus, Sean Combs’ three million plus, and Ashton Kutcher’s got over six million and counting. The question is how much their followers (those that aren’t spam bots) are listening. There is word that people like Kim Kardashian (6.7 Million followers) get paid for their tweets, and it’s likely Sheen was compensated. It may also be a new business model for Sheen – the question is if he can keep people’s attention long enough to make this a viable business model.

Charlie Sheen’s House Searched for Weapons by LAPD

The fun continues in the “winning” household. Today apparently it was decided that Charlie Sheen might actually be a harm not to just himself and the airwaves, but possibly others — and not with his mind force, with guns! I was aware that he is a self-proclaimed super, Vatican, cooking, ninja (I dare you to make sense of that combination), but not that you he was holding anything greater than a set of crazy eyes. Apparently it was suspected that, Sheen might be packing more than just health pill and the Los Angeles police department searched actor Charlie Sheen’s house last night for firearms.

“We’re doing our due diligence,” said a police source that wished to remain anonymous, officials stated that searches are routine in cases involving a temporary restraining orders. Is this another publicity stunt? Someone trying to ruin his insane rampage? Or just a case of mistaken firearms?

The LAPD said Sheen was cooperative, there was no information on how many firearms were taken from the house.

Los Angeles police searched actor Charlie Sheen’s home Thursday night for guns that might be in violation of a temporary restraining order obtained last week by his estranged wife, Brooke Mueller.Officers arrived at Sheen’s home in the Sherman Oaks hills after informing his attorney. Sources said Sheen had guns registered to him that would be prohibited by Mueller’s restraining order.

“We’re doing our due-diligence,” said a Police Department source connected with the case who asked not to be identified. LAPD officials said such weapon searches are routine in cases in which a person is subject to a restraining order.

Despite one report that Sheen might be taken for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation because of his recent erratic behavior, there was no indication that authorities planned to remove the actor from his home. [latimes]

Wow — who said anything about removing him from his home? I agree with removing all children from his home so that he can spend some quality time with those goddesses of his and make for videos, tweets and anything else he can come up with for us to enjoy!

When will this crazy train be hitting the wall? Can anyone predict?
