Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender Join Jane Eyre

Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) and Mia Wasikowska are reportedly in talks to join the cast of the Cary Fukunaga adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s novel, Jane Eyre. The film originally had Ellen Page as the female lead Jane, but she dropped out so Mia will take her place.

The story is about “Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret.” I’m a total sucker for period pieces, and this one sounds like it could be fairly decent. Michael Fassbender was pretty charming in Inglourious Basterds, so it’s not hard to imagine him playing this type of character.

On the other hand, Mia is known for her role on HBO’s In Treatment and for being cast as the title character in Alice in Wonderland. Next up for Fassbender is the DC Comics adaptation of Jonah Hex and the epic action flick Centurion. Even with its great stars, the real reason Jane Eyre sounds so good lies with the director Cary Fukunaga. He’s the man behind this year’s, Sin Nombre, a film that was absolutely amazing. Is this an interesting cast combination or what?

Isla Fisher to Star In Desperados

According to Yahoo, Isla Fisher is gunning for the lead role in the new movie, Desperados. The film is about a woman that might be slightly unhinged when it comes to her boyfriend not responding to messages. If you’ve seen the actresses breakout performance in Wedding Crashers you know what type of crazy we’re talking about here. No holds barred.

The film is about a woman who sleeps with a man, but when he doesn’t follow up with her after, she sends him an angry e-mail, except there is one little problem. It turns out the man didn’t respond because he was in a coma in Mexico! The movie follows her and her friends, as they desperately try to get to the hospital to intercept the message before the man comes to.

The movie will be backed by 2012 producer, Mark Gordon, Paranormal Activity producer, Jason Blum, and written by Ellen Rapoport.

The movie has been described as a female version of The Hangover, which is kind of an overused description. It seems like any movie with a group of friends getting into some trouble is now described at such. There is one thing that is certain, and that’s that Fisher definitely loves to play the crazies!

The movie sounds like it could be a little dumb, kind of cute, totally predictable, but watchable. It would be interesting to know who else was being considered for the role, and who will play the friends? All of this is key because, when it comes down to it, the movie would actually be watchable with Isla Fisher in it, as opposed to Cameron Diaz.

Emmanuelle Chriqui Takes on Georgia

Actress Emmanuelle Chriqui is best known for her role as Kevin Connolly‘s on again off again girlfriend Sloan on the hit HBO series, Entourage. According to THR, Chriqui should get ready for her close up because she’s been cast as the lead in the film, Georgia. It’s director Renny Harlin‘s next project, and it’s being described as a “war drama.”

Georgia is a drama that involves an American journalist and his cameraman caught in the crossfire and a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them. Val Kilmer has been cast in the role of the journalist involved in covering last year’s military conflict between Russia and Georgia. Harlin is also producing the project with Rex Films partners George Lascu, Michael P. Flannigan and David Imedashvili.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Kilmer is a semi-respectable role, so I hope his performance in this film reminds people that he’s still got what it takes. As for Chriqui, she’s been making way as a significant supporting actor in various films, and this could be the big break she’s been waiting for.

Billy Bob Thornton vs. Dwayne Johnson in Faster

Billy Bob Thornton will face off against Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming action thriller Faster, according to Variety. The actor has been cast in the revenge action flick that will be directed by George Tillman, who did the biopic Notorious earlier this year. The last time we saw Billy Bob it was in the blockbuster Eagle Eye, so lets see what his new role has to offer.

Faster will be a welcomed departure from Johnson’s latest family fare, and will have him starring as an ex-con hell bent on avenging his brothers death. In the film he’ll play a character named Driver, while Thornton will star as a veteran cop who trails him as he races to settle with those responsible for his brother’s murder. Also in the mix is Killer, an egocentric hitman who’s after Driver. That role has yet to be cast, but the real question is, who came up with these names?

Faster will be produced by Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer, Liz Glotzer, and Tillman through his State Street Pictures. I’m happy to see Johnson tackle a tougher role, even though his name is ridiculous in this film. Will Thornton’s name simply be “cop?” Now that the two main characters have been cast, I wonder who they have in mind for Killer?

Adams and Galifianakis Join Town House

Hangover star Zach Galifianakis and Oscar nominee Amy Adams are in negotiations to star in a film together according to Variety. The project in question is entitled Town House, a dramedy for Fox 2000. The film has been under development for a while now and the addition of these two actors is just the kick it needs to start production.

Town House centers on an agoraphobic man, who lives with his teenage son in a historic Boston townhouse that he inherited from his rock star father. With royalties from his father’s work dwindling, the man is forced to come to terms with his life. A call girl strikes up a friendship with the man. The screenplay was adapted by Doug Wright and John Carney, which was loosely based on the book of the same name.

The film will also be directed by Carney, and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott via their Fox based Scott Free banner. The plot for this film sounds vaguely familiar. A damaged man, who finds companionship (free of charge) from a hooker? Where have we seen that before? No matter how contrived the story, Adams and Galifianakis definitely fit the parts in question.

They’re looking to start production on the film sometime next year, so I’m assuming a 2011 release is in the cards.

January Jones Joins Nicolas Cage in Hungry Rabbit

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the title of a movie being, Hungry Rabbit Jump, but on to the casting news. Yesterday we told you that Mad Men alum January Jones had signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson in the thriller, Unknown White Male and today she’s back for more. This time, she’ll be going toe to toe with Nicolas Cage in Hungry Rabbit Jump.

According to THR, the film centers on a man (Cage) who, after a crime is perpetrated on his wife, gets more than he bargained for when he enlists a vigilante group to help him settle the score. Jones will play his wife, which producer Stern describes as “a very meaty role,” it’s “not just reactive, but active.” Roger Donaldson is attached to direct from a screenplay written by Robert Tanen.

I’m starting to think that Jones is destined to play everyone’s wife for as long as she lives. I guess if she’s good at what she does then there’s nothing wrong with it. The producer really makes her character sound volatile, as if she’s on shaky ground (mentally?). Either way, this doesn’t sound like a one dimensional part, which is good move for her. Who Should Play Frank Sinatra, Depp, Clooney or DiCaprio?

Earlier this spring, May to be exact, news broke that award winning director Martin Scorsese was planning to helm a biopic centering on the life of Frank Sinatra. With this announcement came several casting possibilities, and at the time Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Harry Connick Jr. were all mentioned for the role. Now, several reports are suggesting that George Clooney may also be in the running to play ‘old blue eyes.’

All of these actors are talented in their own right, but that doesn’t automatically make them perfect for this part. Out of Depp, DiCaprio, Connick, and Clooney who do you think should play Frank Sinatra in the Scorsese biopic?

Here’s the scoop, according to The Gaurdian, Universal is pushing for Depp to play Sinatra due to his impressive performance as John Dillinger in Public Enemies. Sinatra’s own daughter, Nancy thinks Clooney would be the perfect man to play her father, which conflicts with Scorsese’s vision. Apparently, the director wants to show the darker side of the singer, similar to what he did with Howard Hughes in The Aviator, and Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. Nancy on the other hand, wants the world to see a gentler Frank, with the majority of the focus being on his music.

As for casting, let’s stop it with the games. I love all four of these guys, but if I was forced to choose, Clooney wouldn’t even be involved. He needs to go find a writer that can produce a good Cary Grant biopic that he can work himself into. He knows that’s the role he was born to play. As for the other three, I’d have to go with Connick. My biggest question is, what era of Sinatra are they covering, because young Frank and older Frank look pretty different.

Steve Carell Joins Missing Links

Funnyman Steve Carell has landed a new gig, which will require him to use a little athletic prowess. The actor is in negotiations to star in the Warner Bros film, Missing Links according to Reuters. The role will have Carell taking on the leisure sport of golf in the film, which is based off a novel that was originally published in 1997.

Missing Links is loosely based on a novel by ESPN’s Rick Reilly with Carell cast as a golfer “angling for a better place to play.” The novel centered on a group of bumblers who, after playing for years at a run-down municipal golf course in a working-class Boston neighborhood, concoct a series of schemes that they hope will lead to them teeing off at a nearby elite club.

The story will be adapted for the big screen by Jay Lavender, who wrote the screenplay for The Break Up. Carell will also co-produce the film with his Carousel production company. Well, doesn’t this sound hilarious? This premise doesn’t really excite me, but I’m sure there’s something there. I wasn’t even aware that Carell had a production company, but these days all actors do. Are you interested in this movie?

Matt Damon and Josh Brolin Join True Grit

It’s been a long time since I felt the need to say this, but “Oh snap!” According to Variety, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon are in talks to star in the Coen Brothers remake of True Grit. That’s right, the 1969 western that earned John Wayne his Oscar is still being remade by the duo. As we previously announced last month, Jeff Bridges will take on Wayne’s famous role as Cogburn, a man out for revenge.

Damon is in negotiations to star as the lawman (played by Glen Campbell in the original) who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year old girl to track her father’s killer into hostile Indian territory. Brolin will be the bad guy in the film, and is in talks to play the killer, who was portrayed by Jeff Corey the original. The only role left open is the young girl, and with all of these strong established actors rounding out the cast, she needs to be good.

True Grit will be released by Paramount sometime next year, and the film is co-produced by Scott Rudin and Steven Spielberg. This casting is out of control and I mean that in a good way. I’m really going to need them to search high and low for a great young actress to star opposite these guys, because there’s a lot of talent in front and behind the camera here.

Diane Kruger and January Jones Join Unknown White Male

Here’s another casting story that has to do with two talented beauties. According to Variety, Diane Kruger and Mad Men actress January Jones have been cast in the upcoming thriller, Unknown White Male. The film will be produced by Dark Castle and already has Liam Neeson set to star as the lead.

Unknown White Male centers on a man who awakens from a coma to find that someone else has assumed his identity, and no one, including his wife, believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is. Jones is set to play Neeson’s wife, while Kruger will play a Berlin taxi driver and his unexpected ally. The film will be directed by Orphan helmer Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay written by Oliver Butcher, Stephen Cornwell and Karl Gajdusek.

I love Liam Neeson, and I like January Jones but she seems like odd casting for his wife. I can’t put my finger on it, but something is a little off to me. Maybe because I see Neeson as more of a patriarchal figure and her as a bit young to play his romantic interest?

Keira Knightly Confirmed for My Fair Lady

We knew this would happen sooner or later. It looks like the remake of the 1964 George Cukor classic, My Fair Lady has gained momentum. Keira Knightley was rumored to star as the lead character in the new version of the film forever, and according to The Telegraph, she has officially won the role of Eliza Doolittle and beat out Scarlett Johannson to do it.

Not only will Knightley take on the famous role originally played by the late Audrey Hepburn, but she will reunite with Atonement director Joe Wright for the project. According to /Film, Wright has been named as the director of the remake that will have a screenplay written by Emma Thompson. Knightley has been training for the role by taking vocal lessons which she started over a year ago when the casting rumors first began.

If Knightley’s been cast as Eliza, who could possibly play her counterpart Prof. Henry Higgins? If all goes well, the front runner Daniel Craig will take on the role, which was previously played by Rex Harrison in the original. I’m personally against this remake on all accounts, because the 1964 version is fine the way it is. Nothing against the talent of any of the people involved, but this is just unnecessary.

Sam Worthington to Star in Mad Max: Fury Road?

The Mad Max sequel Fury Road has had one of the most productive week’s I’ve seen in a very long time. Just the other day we reported on casting rumors regarding Charlize Theron and Bronson‘s Tom Hardy co-starring in the fourth film, that will once again be directed by George Miller. According to THR, the budget has already been set and production on the film will begin a lot earlier than you think.

The trade reports that Fury Road will have a production budget of 100 million dollars, even though no studio backing has been formally announced.

“In the hands of director George Miller, we will see one of the largest and most ambitious live-action films ever made in Australia. This is a clear vote of confidence in Australian expertise. This proves that Sydney is an international contender for major film production.”

This is an interesting statement considering the fact that The Green Lantern film just transferred their production from down under due to the excessive cost. On another note, casting for the film has once again been shaken via a report from the Daily Telegraph.

There has been no confirmation yet of who will play the role of the Road Warrior but rumors abound it will be Australian Terminator star Sam Worthington, with Charlize Theron to co-star. The Daily Telegraph has learned that work on the film will start immediately, injecting tens of millions of dollars into the economy and creating more than 500 jobs.

This conflicts with the statement from THR, that states that production will start sometime next year, even though the Telegraph insists the shoot will begin immediately. Who do we believe? There have been so many rumors flying around these past few days regarding this movie. Does Sam really need to play every iconic action hero ever created? I like the guy but come on.
