Last month, we showed you five new pictures from The Avengers, featuring stars Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlet Johansson looking at things very, very dramatically. They didn’t really indicate much in the way of plot (beyond the fact that the Avengers are going to, you know, assemble at some point), but hey, we at least got to see that Bruce Banner is going to dress in his classic purple and Downey Jr. still has that weirdly sculpted goatee. Now we have two new pics featuring the heroes—you guessed it—staring fixedly at things.

This weekend James Franco and Andy Serkis hope to defeat Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds for the top slot at the box office. If Bateman and Reynolds look familiar it’s because they’ve both top-lined movies earlier this summer. And they star in The Change Up with Olivia Wilde, who just appeared in Cowboys and Aliens. Emma Stone seems the champ of the summer, with two starring roles in Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Help, along with a cameo in Friends with Benefits, all opening within a month of each other. It’s the end of the movie summer, even if the real summer has a couple of weeks left.

After last weekend’s strong debut, Captain America: The First Avenger will attempt to hold on to the top spot as it faces stiff competition from The Smurfs, The Steven Spielberg-Produced Cowboys & Aliens, and the Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone movie Crazy, Stupid, Love. It should be a hectic week at the box office. Now for our predictions.

Captain America has topped Harry’s huge success and taken the No. 1 spot at the box office. We did not see that one coming. Captain America: The First Avenger was expected to have a successful weekend, but not to the point where it would knock Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 off its spot. The Superhero film made a debut of $65.8 million – over $100 million less than Harry Potter made last weekend. The new romantic comedy Friends with Benefits landed itself third with a weekend gross of $18.5 million. This weekend was full of surprises, check out the complete numbers…

This summer has brought an onslaught of comic-book movies, but the tide has turned against them. From Thor to X-Men: First Class to The Green Lantern, none of these super-expensive movies have managed to crack $200 Million at the box office, the number Superman Returns made (and that was considered a failure). Partly it’s the films, partly it’s the characters – many of whom aren’t as well known as Batman and Superman. Enter Captain America: The First Avenger. It’s a relief to say it’s entertaining, and will hopefully buck the trend. Find out more below….

Having recently suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous reporting, Chris Evans would have good reason to be guarded when he talked about Captain America. Thankfully he wasn’t, and he comes off as a thoughtful and humble guy who has made his choices very carefully when it comes to his career. This film is a big step, and though you may have heard of him before, this is the first time he’s front and center in a franchise film. He’s an A-lister now, for better or worse. Take a look at our talk…

From the outset director Joe Johnston might have seemed an odd choice for Captain America: The First Avenger, but he was the perfect fit – having done a period superhero twenty years ago with The Rocketeer. He discussed the movie along with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and producers Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito in a recent press conference, and all spoke of the challenges of making a superhero film that’s meant to tie into next year’s The Avengers. Take a look…

The role of James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes is critical in the history of Captain America, he’s Cap’s best friend, and later in the run took over the role of Captain himself. For Sebastian Stan, it’s his first big breakthrough role after having smaller roles in films like Black Swan. If this works, prepare to see more of Stan. Check out our interview…

Hayley Atwell is a newcomer to the event film world, and she took it to like a champ. Playing Peggy Carter, Captain America’s supervising officer and love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger was a huge role and huge break. But her performance is excellent, and she plays well off of Chris Evans’s square superhero. She’s also incredibly charming, and she gave a very relaxed interview. Check it out….
