UK Burke and Hare Trailer With Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis

A UK trailer has been released for John Landis’ big screen comeback Burke & Hare. The director hasn’t helmed a theatrical film in years, and he’s finally decided to make a come back with this horror comedy starring Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis. Check it out…

In the film, Pegg stars as William Burke and Serkis as William Hare, two criminals known for dipping into the world of murder to make a quick buck. The story centers on a pair of Irish immigrant murderers in early 19th century Edinburgh who sell the corpses of their victims to the local medical college. It’s based on actual events, and the duo are said to have killed at least 17 people from 1827 to 1828.

The movie also stars Isla Fisher, as a young actress and Pegg’s girlfriend who’s looking for a patron, while Tom Wilkinson plays Dr. Robert Knox, an anatomy lecturer in need of fresh corpses.

It’s been a long time since An American Werewolf in London, and it’s time to see if 1980s John Landis can hang with the directors of the new millennium.

We’re really looking forward to John Landis’ adaptation of Burke and Hare. Not just because of Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis but because it marks Landis’ return to feature films. He’s been away for too long and it’s time for him to get back to his roots, horror and comedy! Over at /Film, they’ve gotten a hold of an early poster for the film that features the title characters as well as Isla Fisher and a few random body parts…

The movie also stars Fisher, as a young actress and Pegg’s girlfriend who’s looking for a patron, while Tom Wilkinson plays Dr. Robert Knox, an anatomy lecturer in need of fresh corpses.

The first photos have surfaced from the upcoming dark comedy Burke & Hare via the UK website, the Daily Mail. They include the two main characters as played by Simon Pegg and the recently added Andy Serkis. This will mark the first film that director John Landis has tackled in a very long time, and from the looks of these photos his return might be well worth the wait.

The movie will also star Isla Fisher, as a young actress and Pegg’s girlfriend who’s looking for a patron and she may or may not be an accomplice to the duo’s murders. While Tom Wilkinson will star as “Dr. Robert Knox, an anatomy lecturer looking for fresh corpses.”

Tom Wilkinson and Isla Fisher Join Burke and Hare

If you’re still spinning over the casting news that David Tennant will no longer star in the upcoming dark comedy Burke & Hare, there’s more where that came from. No one will be replaced, but several other well known actors have signed on to the film. According to THR, Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis will be joined by Tom Wilkinson and Isla Fisher in the John Landis production.

Burke & Hare centers on a pair of Irish immigrant murderers in early 19th century Edinburgh who sell the corpses of their victims to the local medical college. The film is based on a true story about the U.K.’s earliest serial killers, whose names were William Burke and William Hare. With names like that, it sounds like they were destined to be partners in crime.

Fisher joins the cast as a young actress and Pegg’s girlfriend who’s looking for a patron, she also may or may not be an accomplice to the duo’s heinous murders. Wilkinson will star as “Dr. Robert Knox, an anatomy lecturer looking for fresh corpses.” He sounds like a regular customer or perhaps someone who could be used to catch the killers in the act.

Burke & Hare also features Dan Aykroyd and Bill Nighy, and will begin production on January 31 in Edinburgh and London. This will be the first feature that Landis has directed in years, so it will be interesting to see if he still has what it takes to pull off a horror comedy.

Andy Serkis Replaces Tennant in Burke and Hare

We should have known that it was too good to be true. Our favorite “Dr. Who,” David Tennant will no longer star in the upcoming dark comedy, Burke & Hare. It’s the first film that director John Landis has helmed in what seems like forever and it originally had Tennant starring opposite Simon Pegg. If that wasn’t a recipe for greatness I don’t know what is. Unfortunately it looks as if Tennant is out and Andy Serkis is in.

Andy Serkis is best known for his work as Gollum in the Peter Jackson film, Lord of the Rings. Even though his most famous role has him hidden beneath computer imagery he’s had his fair share of live action work. He appeared opposite Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 and Brendan Fraser in Inkheart. The news of his casting first hit when Pegg took to his Twitter page and wrote,

“David Tennant had to drop out of B&H but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS.”

Along with Pegg and Serkis, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Nighy will also be featured in the film. No official reason has been given as to why Tennant had to drop out, but Serkis is a decent replacement. I’m just concerned about his ability to keep up with Pegg’s comedic timing.

Dan Aykroyd Cast in Burke and Hare

This may night be the reunion you were looking for (Ghostbusters 3), but Dan Aykroyd‘s most recent film gig is still pretty eventful. The actor will once again join director John Landis in a feature film and this time it’s for the upcoming adaptation of Burke and Hare. The leads have already been cast with Simon Pegg and David Tennant in the title roles, so this should be interesting.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Aykroyd, has joined the cast of the Gothic comedy in an undisclosed role. This will be his eighth feature film with Landis so it will be a comforting return to the big screen for the actor. Burke and Hare centers on a pair of Irish immigrant murderers in early 19th century Edinburgh who sold on the corpses of their victims to the local medical college. Along with Pegg and Tennant, Aykroyd will also join Bill Nighy in the film.

With the exception of the two protagonists, everyone else’s character descriptions are being kept under lock and key. What’s up with all the secrecy? This is supposed to be a black comedy, so perhaps it adds to the ambiance of the whole thing, either way the film is shaping up quite nicely. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Landis or Aykroyd in the limelight, not to mention the excitement of Mr. Tennant co-headlining a feature film? Best Doctor Who ever!

David Tennant Joins Pegg in Burke and Hare

Simon Pegg will be joined by a famous doctor for his next film Burke & Hare. David Tennant best known for his tenure on the popular sci-fi series Doctor Who, has been cast as Pegg’s partner in crime for the project according to Twitch.

Burke & Hare “were a pair of Irish immigrant murderers in early 19th century Edinburgh who sold on the corpses of their victims to the local medical college.” There was plenty of speculation regarding who would play the second half of this deadly duo. Many people including myself thought Nick Frost would be up to the challenge, but apparently Landis had someone else in mind.

Even though I enjoy David Tennant, I’ll always wonder what could have been with Frost. The actor does have a huge fan following, and is considered everyone’s favorite Doctor Who incarnate, so I’m sure a lot of people will be pleased with his involvement. Burke & Hare will be directed by John Landis, and is a remake of the 1971 film of the same name, about two men who swipe bodies for science.

John Landis is back on the movie scene. According to /Film, the director has cast Simon Pegg in his upcoming film, Burke & Hare. Fans are used to seeing both Landis and Pegg work in the comedic-horror field, so Burke & Hare shouldn’t be that much of a stretch. The story centers on two Irishman who murder for medicine. More on the story below.

Burke and Hare “were a pair of Irish immigrant murderers in early 19th century Edinburgh who sold on the corpses of their victims to the local medical college.” Sounds exciting! With Simon attached to star as one of the two that leaves his partner in crime up for debate. Where’s Nick Frost?! Who else could play his right hand man in a film like this?

The story for this film nips at the heels of the recent IFC release, I Sell the Dead. I saw the movie, and unfortunately it was nothing to write home about. Burke & Hare’s story has been told on the big screen before, once in 1960 and again in 1972. I haven’t seen either of those versions, but they might serve as a good prep for Landis’ take.
