fraserjconov19 Brendan Fraser to Appear on Broadway in Elling

Brendan Fraser hasn’t had tremendous luck when it comes to holding on to stardom. Nineties nostalgia fans will always adore him for his role as a thawed out caveman in Encino Man and he had some success as an Indiana Jones rip-off character in The Mummy and its subsequent sequels, but he’s faded from the public eye in recent years. Even an appearance in Best Picture winner Crash hasn’t been enough to revive his career.

Not that he seems all that bothered by the state of things. Fraser has taken the stage on Broadway as a former asylum patient and mechanic in the play “Elling,” adapted from a series of Norwegian novels that were also made into a play and film in their home country.

Now, Dumbo (the musical) is in its initial stages. A creative team has yet to be assigned, and because of it, Dumbo won’t be hitting Broadway or any theater, any time soon. An executive for Disney said Wednesday afternoon:

I have a confession to make.  I was a theater major in college.  Yep, complete with a Les Miserables shirt and debates about the merits of Madonna as Eva Peron in the greenroom between classes.  Perhaps it was because my mom made me listen to too much Fiddler on the Roof and Jesus Christ Superstar when I was little?  (That’s it, blame the parents.) My passion for movie musicals is merely the culmination of my two loves:  film and non-plot advancing song and dance numbers! Like, OmG!

Here are the 10 Movie Musicals I think are the best of the best.  This is based on the oh-so-scientific criteria of how much I love the film so if your favorite is missing, by all means, leave a comment and let us what makes you want to spontaneously break into song. Come on, I showed you mine…
