Merry Christmas Black Swan, you’ll be hitting theaters everywhere on December 22. The Darren Aronofsky feature opened in limited release on December 3 and Fox Searchlight has decided to step it up a notch. The film has received lots of critical praise and is being called one of the best films of the year. The war between Rapunzel and Harry Potter continued this weekend, and readers, the princess won. Tangled (movie review) brought in over $21.5 million while Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I (movie review) plunged to the No. 2 spot with $16.7 million. Interestingly enough, Burlesque (movie review) and Love and Other Drugs (movie review) went up the box office ladder on their second weekend in theaters.

After taking The Venice Film Festival by storm earlier this year (where we first reviewed it) Darren Aronofsky‘s highly anticipated masterpiece, Black Swan, is poised to dominate awards season. The psychological thriller set in the seemingly elegant world of the New York City Ballet stars an Oscar hungry Natalie Portman in a career defining performance. The film also stars Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel and opens nationwide this Friday.

The highly anticipated companion piece to last year’s indie-hit, The Wrestler hits theaters this weekend. Black Swan, ladies and gents, is Darren Aronofsky’s latest masterpiece starring an Oscar-hungry Natalie Portman. The film chronicles the psychological demise of Nina, an ambitious ballet dancer whose fierce dedication to her role in “Swan Lake” has her slowly slipping off the deep end.
