The Shrek franchise drove itself into the ground after three sequels, so perhaps the only way to go forward was a spin-off. And it’s true that one of the best things about Puss in Boots – the fifth film in the franchise – is that it never feels like a Shrek movie. The film follows the feline character (voiced by Antonio Banderas) in a stand-alone adventure. But even though it’s not beating you over the head with pop-culture references, it does feel like is something that was originally meant to be a direct to video title.

Move over Tooth Fairy and The Game Plan, Dwayne Johnson is ready to step back into the hardcore action genre. This week the actor appears in the George Tillman Jr. film Faster. He channels his inner Steve McQueen and plays a man on a deadly mission for revenge. Nothing and no one will get between him and his targets. It’s just him, an old school car, a revolver, and the unlucky suckers who have targets on their backs.

A while ago it was announced that a big screen adaptation of the 1960′s television series, “The Big Valley” was in the works and now several pieces of casting news have been confirmed. First we found out that Oscar winner Susan Sarandon would star as the female lead and the matriarch of the Barkley Clan, and while at SXSW actor Ryan Phillippe has confirmed that he will also star in the film, which is set to begin production this summer!

The actor has been cast in the revenge action flick that will be directed by George Tillman, who did the biopic Notorious earlier this year.
