2012′s summer is going to be interesting as many of the big films look like they might not work. Men in Black III is going for another round of re-shoots, and there are a lot of other question marks, as well. Now we have the full trailer for Peter Berg‘s Battleship - which on paper looks dicey – but it’s got scale and a story now. Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Rhiana, Brooklyn Decker and Alexander Skarsgard star. The film is set to open May 18. Check it out… Continue Reading

One of the most interesting films of next year is John Carter, the Andrew Stanton-directed film starring Taylor Kitsch and Willem Dafoe. The long-in-gestation project (which has had Harry Knowles, Kerry Conran and Jon Favreau attached at different points) is hoped to be the first in a franchise. Stanton talked to the New Yorker about the film, and told them the film needs to make $700 Million at the box office to generate a sequel. As large a number as that is, we’re moving into a period of very risky projects, including films like The Avengers – where we’re seeing bigger and bigger budgets for films that are not sure things.

Branding is one of the most popular tools in greenlighting a project these days. Why do you think there are so many remakes? It’s so studios can say there’s awareness before a frame of footage is shot. We’re still not through the worst of it. In 2008, there were a number of board games optioned to be turned into films, with Battleship set for next year and Candyland in development. But Ouija – based on the Ouija board – has been cancelled by Universal, which may mean that this trend is over before it started.

It’s hard to know what to make of Battleship – the movie – even after the trailer. And that’s because it’s hard to call the board game (from which the film is derived) plot driven. It involves calling out numbers, which leads to hits and misses. Here there’s an intergalactic threat, and battleships. No on ei is currently calling out anything resembling numbers, but you know someone’s going to say it, someone’s got to say “you’ve sunk my battleship.” Peter Berg directs Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker, and the teaser’s here now. Check it out…

Over the past year or so, Liam Neeson has been signing on to some questionable films. We let The A-Team slide because of the nostalgia factor, but now he’s adding another military movie to his resume — Battleship. As in the Universal-Peter Berg directed adaptation of the popular Hasbro board game. What the hell?

Taylor Kitsch has traded in his signature long locks for a short, spiky do on the set of Battleship. It’s Peter Berg’s latest film and it calls for the actor to take a more military approach to his look. Recently, we posted the first photos of his co-star Rihanna on set, and she also toned down her appearance for her role. Check out another photo of Taylor and his new cut below…

Rihanna joining Peter Berg’s Battleship was one of the weirdest casting choices we’ve seen in a while. Even though it came completely out of left field, the singer-turned-actress has landed a supporting role, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it. On one of her many fansites, they’ve posted some photos of her on set and dressed in full military gear. We’re seeing it, but we still don’t believe it. Take a look…

It’s official, Battleship has become Transformers on water. Not because it’s also based on a Hasbro toy but because of its casting. Transformers 3 has been the target of a lot of negative press because of Michael Bay’s decision to hire a model as opposed to an experienced actress to play the film’s female lead, and now Battleship‘s following in its footsteps. According to Latino Review, Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker aka Mrs. Andy Roddick has been cast in the film.
