The winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects goes to Avatar. Seriously, if anyone else won in this category it would have been a crime against humanity. Upon accepting the award the winners thanked James Cameron and the actors for trusting the visual effects team with their performances even though it wasn’t easy. They also stated that the world we live in is just as amazing as the one they created. How profound.

The winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Cinematography goes to Mauro Fiore for Avatar. He thanked director James Cameron for his vision, producer Jon Landau, and his crew back in New Zealand. He also gave a shout out to his parents and stated, “Viva Italia” for his families’ native homeland.

On February 22nd, the National Resources Defense Council held a benefit event for the environment with a special focus on the environmental theme from James Cameron’s Avatar. KCRW’s Elvis Mitchell conducted an interview with Cameron about his recent blockbuster hit and how he’s using the film to help promote environmentalism (just in time for the Oscars of course).

French producer Nicolas Chartier who was a part of the Best Picture nominated film The Hurt Locker has been banned from attending the Oscar awards ceremony this Sunday due to an e-mail he sent. According to USA Today, Chartier is being punished for trying to sway Oscar voters towards his film by talking trash about a fellow nominee.

According to an interview Cameron gave over at MTV that’s not the case. There’s more Na’vi action that the world hasn’t seen and it will be featured on the upcoming Avatar DVD.

James Cameron’s movie, Avatar has been such a big hit that it has inspired people to live their lives as if they were 10 feet tall, blue creatures living in Pandora. They have painted their full bodies blue, have a tail attached to their clothing and talk/act as if they were living in Cameron’s fantasy world. The only problem is, they are not. And in this world they look like morons.
For today’s “video of the day,” we have a 5 minute look into this world these people have created in honor (or mockery) of the most successful film ever. They have new names for themselves, are completely covered in blue paint, and speak as if they have been brainwashed. They claim they feel comfortable this way, but it makes you question their sanity — but I guess that’s the point!
This is is almost as crazy as the people going through Avatar withdrwals…

Avatar has officially taken Titanic down a peg, by ripping the 1997 film of its two all time grossing titles. Last weekend the first nail was put into its coffin when Avatar became the highest grossing film worldwide after raking in $2,048,130,844 as compared to Titanic’s total of $1,843,201,268. Once that happened we all knew the domestic record wouldn’t be far behind.
