No charming millionaire or genius teen assassin was able to bring Hop down from its No. 1 spot. Last weekend the kid film surprised us all with its high gross ($38 million); despite grossing a lot less ($21.6 million) than last weekend, newcomers Arthur and Hanna were no match for Hop. A surprise to us was how poorly the highly anticipated comedy Your Highness did at the box office. It seems like audiences didn’t care to see a James Franco/Danny McBride reunion, nor Natalie Portman shooting arrows. The biopic Soul Surfer had more tickets sales, and landed at No. 4. Shocked? Us too.
Take a look at this weekend’s surprising numbers…

Mediocrity here we come! Arthur is nothing if it isn’t that. It’s not bad enough to really be horrible or offensive, there are enough jokes to make you chuckle all the way through (provided you haven’t already seen them in the trailer), and the cast is extremely easy to watch – BUT the fact is, this is a mainstream, easy for everyone to consume, take no risks comedy. But hey, it’s not all bad…

Last weekend Hop did much better than expected at the box office. With the opening of the Arthur remake on April 8, this weekend Russell Brand will be fighting against himself for the top spot. Meanwhile, a slew of new releases battle for box office supremacy with James Franco‘s stoner comedy Your Highness up against the action thriller Hanna, the teen drama Soul Surfer and Russell Brand’s Arthur. It will be a busy busy weekend at the box office.
And now for our predictions:

Recently we sat down to a press conference with Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, director Jason Winer, Writer Peter Baynham for their latest film Arthur. The press conference was quite long, so we do not have the whole thing for you, instead we’re focusing in on the main attraction, the man who can’t stop himself from a humorous and promotional monologue, Russell Brand (with a few fun lines from Dame Helen Mirren).
Brand’s answers are long and he’s easily distracted by things like… actually he’s distracted by just about anything that pops into his head — but, he knows how to promote a film and get to the heart of everything. So bare with him (us) we’ll get there together. At least he makes the journey fun!

Last week, the first poster for the upcoming Arthur remake was finally released. The film stars Russell Brand as the title character, and Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner as two very important women in his life. All three of the actors appeared on the one sheet, which was missing one major element — Greta Gerwig. The actress plays Brand’s love interest in the film and she was nowhere to be found, until now. Check out the new poster below…

Early last week, we brought you a few photos from the set of the upcoming remake of Arthur. The film is based on the 1981 feature of the same name that starred the late Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. The new take has fellow Brit Russell Brand in the title role along with Helen Mirren, and Luis Guzman who appears with him in this latest batch of photos. For some odd reason, Brand and Guzman are on set and dressed as Batman and Robin. We don’t know how, we don’t know why, they just are. Take a look…
