Once you’ve won an Oscar, raided the box office, and become somewhat of a pop icon there’s only one thing left for an actor to do — direct. Angelina Jolie is the latest thespian taking a step behind the camera for a new film, which she’ll also write. On Monday we reported that Angelina Jolie would star alongside George Clooney in a film loosely based on the latter years of Marilyn Monroe’s life. Jolie was set to play Monroe and Clooney would star as Frank Sinatra (why won’t he do a Carey Grant biopic already?). The film is called The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend, Marilyn Monroe and it’s based on the book of the same name. It was from its author Andrew O’Hagan that the casting news was announced regarding the two actors but according to The LA Times, it’s not true. Jolie won’t be going blonde anytime soon — at least as Marilyn.
Who’s been sniffing the Elmer’s glue? According to The Times, Oscar winners George Clooney and Angelina Jolie are set to play two of Old Hollywood’s biggest icons in a feature film. Can you imagine Clooney as the smooth, yet rustic Frank Sinatra? Or how about Jolie as the voluptuous yet vulnerable Marilyn Monroe? If you can’t, you should try because that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

This weekend Angelina Jolie will turn into the female version of Jason Bourne for her new film Salt. The movie that was originally a vehicle for Tom Cruise is a far cry from the Oscar winning actress’s next project. Jolie is set to star in the latest biopic centering on the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. News first broke regarding her involvement with the project in early June and while out promoting Salt, she’s adding more fuel to the fire.

The Egyptian queen has been the subject of many books, plays, and films including the infamous Elizabeth Taylor version, and she’s headed back to the big screen. According to USA Today, the rights to the upcoming biography, Cleopatra: A Life have been bought by film producer Scott Rudin with Angelina Jolie as the front runner to play the queen.
